Xbox 360 Live demo availability thread

Is the Jericho demo any fun?
I thought it was pretty decent actually.

I was expecting some shitty buggy FPS with no innovation at all. But the way they handle character switching and the camera angles (stays first person throughout 'scene changes') was pretty nifty.

And the graphics were actually pretty damn amazing imo.

Gameply was maybe the only spot where it was lacking...but the presentation is an A in my book.

I was expecting a Simpsons demo on XBL this morning - I must be in a parallel universe if PSN is getting the demo first.

Probably that lazy ass MS certification team taking it's sweet ass time. They have to approve shitty demo's like Loony tunes first you know.

When it comes to demos, I think the last thing you can say about MS is that they're lazy.

What is bladestorm. I've never even heard of this one and 1.9 gigs is huge. Is that the biggest NON-MMORPG demo ever released on live?
It's KOEI's animu take on the 100 year war with Dynasty Warriors like presentation but without the button mashing omnipotent characters but with "tactical" command gameplay instead. It's like Dragon Force in 3D without the charm so far, LOLZ.

Am I the only one surprised by the Bee Movie demo? I couldn't believe it looked that good and actually plays good. I think kids will love it and I may get it if I see it at a bargain bin price.

Wait, Bladestorm is up? Sweet. Apparently the game is supposed to be more like Kessen and less like DW. That makes my heart soar. Will have to try it out immediately.

Bee Movie Impression: If you love QTEs, you'll love this game. What the fuck, seriously. The entire demo is one long, boring, Dragon's Lair game, now with button hammering! It does look nice, but that's not too hard when your game is a big cut scene, with branching paths. Guh.

It and Bladestorm are DLing. I'll post impressions when I'm done washing my mouth out, most likely.

Edit:

Bladestorm - Is this guy with a funny mustache ever going to stop talking to me? You start in a bar, where you can listen to gossip and accept contracts for mercenary work. You have two fights available in the demo, the battle of Odon and the battle of Epaignes. I'm playing Epaignes.

The barkeep won't shut up. I want to stab him.

Okay, so I've never played a Bladestorm before. Clearly a VERY different game than DW. You don't so much attack people as you lead groups of forces to attacks. So basically once you attach to a group (infantry, cavalry, crossbowmen, archers, etc.) they follow you and holding down RB makes them attack with their standard attack. When your meter builds up you can launch specialized attacks.

The actual combat is fun if not graphically amazing, and it's basically similar to DW in the sense that you capture bases and that effects the outplay of the battle, but the actual fighting is completely different.

Also, it looks like there's an RPG elelment, as your character has fame and various stats that can go up from combat or reading boks, etc.

I enjoyed playing it enough that I'll go back and try a few different strategies.

First on to ACME

Oh my god, so complete shit. I figured it would be bad, but it looks bad, and has a 1990's camera, and it's just button mashing awfulness.

Oh god that Looney Tunes game is awful. They basically took a shitty seven year old platformer and upped the resolution. The only positive thing I have to say about it is that the framerate sometimes reaches 60. But considering how horrible the game looks, that's actually a failure.

The Looney Toons demo is embarassingly bad. How a company would want to release something to the public to guarantee less sales is beyond me.

Really? It did feel as if I was playing an N64 game suddenly on my 360, and not a good one either. I mean sub-Blasto. It'll sell because parents are stupid on other machines, but not many kiddies have 360s and PS3s.

I'd like to hear some impressions on Conan (EDIT: sucks balls, eh?)... I'll maybe download it... Simpsons is what I've got on the queue before I go to bed, though.

I have read all the REH Original Conan Novels so am hoping this game is good, I mean I am a massive Conan fan so played all through the Conan game before this on the PS2 and that was awful this HAS to be better then that game!

Caveat: I never played God of War, God of War 2 or any Devil May Cry.

I thought Conan was *ok*. It's not ground breaking, it's probably extremely derivative of games that I haven't played but it's overall a decently fun game. I've put 4 or 5 hours into it (it's been out for a little while in Europe) and it's a very average game that's not bad enough to not be fun but that I will not touch again once I'm done with it. The extremely gory finishers are quite cool and satisfying too. If you've not played every game in the genre it's a good rental, if you have you'll probably be bored of it after 10 minutes.

Conan = dull, less responsive God of War wannabe. Perhaps more hack and slashy, I dunno, haven't played God of War, or this demo all that much. Got bored after 10 minutes due to not really liking the genre to begin with.

You're right, calling it a seven year old mediocre platformer was too lenient. It has no redeeming qualities whatsoever.

Not sure if this was posted yet.

Average at best, Project Origin looks far better imo.

Tried Jericho, sucked so much balls I don't know what to say. Guns were dumb, enemies were dumb. All I liked was the QTEs made sense because each button was assigned a body part.

Conan is quite fun, I definetly could see myself picking that up for cheap.

Simpsons Demo -
the mood/feeling of the game is great, the voice acting and work is perfect
the camera is bad, really bad, I found myself fighting with it constantly
the controls are 'okay' but coupled with a bad camera control system makes them difficult
the demo itself isn't really a good level, it is pretty difficult and I can a lot of more casual gamers trying the demo and getting REALLY frustrated with how difficult it is.. I think they made a HUGE mistake using this level to sell the game.
I won't be buying this unless I can find it cheaper, I'm a big Simpsons fan but the demo left a bad impression with me

Jericho Demo -
too dark, I should have known from the start that I wasn't going to enjoy a game were 80% of it is in the dark
irrelevant story, the cinematic introduction had me rolling, for the wrong reasons
character voice acting was pretty bad
Sorry, I didn't get more than 10 minutes through the first level before deleting it, it did not catch me at all

Conan Demo -
blatant God of War ripoff though the violence is much better
voice acting was pretty bad, perhaps just because of the dialog, I didn't really like Ron Perlman as conans voice, even though I'm a fan of his
I found myself wishing I could maneuver the camera, seems like yet another game where the camera really hurts the experience.
The amount of combos and moves seemed a lot more deep than GoW, if you spend a little time you can string together some really brutal and satisfying kills.
Seems decent enough but I think I'll wait considering the other titles coming out this year. The game did look much improved over the screenshots and early videos though.

I wish someone would make a game like crash 1.

that game had some hardcore platforming in it.. and the 2d levels as well were very very awesome. Those 3d bridge levels were absolutely nuts.

Every crash since then has seemed watered down and not nearly as hard core.

Yea, and Conan Sucks balls.

There was something charming about it's suckyness. Conan is much better with crappy voice acting and the combat system was a lot better than I thought it would be and the character animation was also surprisingly good. I think the combat was trying to copy Ninja Gaiden more than God of War.

I remember having a hell of a time getting all of the jewels to get the best ending. I mean damn you basically had to break every box in the stage without dying.

The game is shit, but near the end theres a really cool sequence(violent) ala Resident Evil 4. That alone was worth the download, but the game is pure shit.

Conan sucks badly.

I didn't think I could play an action game demo worse than Heavenly Sword. I guess I was wrong.

Must not like actions games a lot do you?

That Looney Toon game was something that sucked badly, Conan on the other hand is at the very worst, average.

He "must not like actions games a lot" just because he doesn't like HS and Conan? Wtf planet are you on?

Just got done playing the demo, and my hype meter is going down fast. The demo was very very easy, and the hits just don't really seem to have an impact..

I loved VF4 btw.

Just downloaded Thrillville demo and played a bit. Yeah lazy sunday and nothing to do...etc etc...

I dont care about coaster building but damn that little bike game "Stunt rider" is addictive! I got Kikstart and California Games (BMX event) vibes from it. Fellow Commodore 64 gamers should know about these games. Anyways, they should make a separate Xbox Arcade game from it!! Lucasarts...are you listening..? :D

Is there some reason Live is so slow these days for demos? I queued up the VF5 and PGR4 demos (around 2GB in total) last night (so its been 14 hours) and PGR4 is only 55% done. I used to be able to download a 1GB demo in about 30-40 minutes.
