Brief impressions of N3

Graphics:
Like much of videos we've already seen, there doesn't seem to be any changes in the overall presentation. The CG looked phenominal and the menu screen with the water dripping selection process was pretty cool. As far as in game stuff, I think it all looked pretty good for the type of game. I don't know all that technical jazz most of you speak of but as an average gamer, I was generally impressed.

Voice acting/Dialogue:
The voice acting was terrible and the dialogue seems cheesy as hell.

Camera:
I had to battle this portion of the game a little bit. Rotating the camera around while trying to battle a few hundred enemies caused me to get a little lost in the group. Also, there were times when there too many enemies between me and the camera, resulting in me having to run around and rotate until I could find an opening.
Disclaimer: I'm not too picky with camera issues and this isn't anything I couldn't work around with more time.

Gameplay:
This game is a button masher. Using the normal attack functions when killing the enemies rewarded the player with red orbs. After the red orb meter is filled, a red orb attack is activated with the B button (I think) and any kill for a brief period of time will yield a blue orb. Once the blue orb meter is full, which can only be filled with the red orb attack kills, a far greater attack is open to the player.

There are also jump attacks and a variety of other combo manuvers avaible to the player (which get you off just hitting the Y button) but I didn't really care to figure out how to perform such attacks. When I did pull them off, which were pretty cool, it was all by accident.

At your disposal through the mission is a squad to aid you in your efforts. However, the squad does absolutly jack shit! I hope this isn't indicitive of the final game but my swordsman were useless.

Overall first impressions:
I thought is was good. I've never been a fan of these types of games and pending reviews, I would consider picking it up for $40.

Definitely a lot prettier than I'd expected and you really get a rush from new/stronger attacks. I have to scour the official thread to find out about its longevity, et al. BTW, is the second Movie in engine??? It looked like it might have been.

The new attacks were definetly cool and if you youtube this thing, you can see a variety of other characters special (blue orb) attack skills. Very impressive, indeed...

My biggest concern with this game is the lack of checkpoints/save points. From what I've read, the levels can last 45 minutes to and hour and if you die 30 minutes into a level, you'll have to start from the very begining. I need this to change if there is any hope of me picking this thing up because I flat out suck at this games.

I just realized this is a Microsoft published game so the price tag is $50.

Lousy camera and clipping issues for anything but the peon class enemies. Also the inability to cancel out of some really long combos is annoying, especially if you get pelted by arrows in the process. I'll stick to Dead Rising.

I only really played it for about 5 minutes before i had to return to work, but I liked it alot. Been following this one for awhile and realize it had a mixed reaction in the land of the rising sun

I was a little put off with the dubbing, more importantly, the so-so lipsynching. I'd get over it though. Its not bad at all. Its decent to good

I love the game's art design btw :)

Intro movie is CG
1st movie with two people talking is CG
2nd movie right before you fight is in-engine

N3 - I am really getting sick of these terrible English dubs. Must every male hero have a nasally, grating, whiny voice? And certain things, like calling out attack names and taunts during battle that sound natural in Japanese just don't work in English - it sounds ridiculous.

Gameplay-wise, I can imagine that Dynasty Warriors fans will enjoy this one, but it's just not for me.

Also, bad English dubs are sounding increasingly absurd since the standards for VAs in Western developed games keeps improving.

Example, I thought the BFMEII demo had /relatively/ good voice acting by current Western standards, but compared to N3's dub, it's fuggin' Shakespeare.

do they launch the demos at midnight or is the saints row demo not going to be released until late morning?

Demos usually don't seem to come out until the afternoon. But if they're gonna launch the Saints Row demo at 6am, goddamnit, I'm staying awake until 6am. Let 'em know, Arne. ;-)

Damn. Was hoping I'd wake up to it. Have to wait until after work.

Not sure this is the best place to ask this, but I'm not starting a thread for it.
I'm trying to set up an American Live account but they keep telling me the phone number I enter is not valid.
Could someone give me an example of an American ph. number, please. I tried numbers starting with 555 because that's how they always seem to go on TV and in the movies, but that didn't work, which is yet another indication that I need a new source of knowledge.

:lol 555 doesn't work because that's the fake one reserved for the movies ;)

555 are put in movies and tv because there are no US phone numbers that have that prefix in them nor will there ever will be. Find a legit area code (http://www.consumer.att.com/global/english/usa_codes.html) and plug in 7 random numbers afterwards but don't let them start with 555 (ie areacode-555-XXXX)

Edit: or skip to the post right after this one.

edit: oops. wouldn't have responded if i knew three people did before me.

Phone number worked, now, if someone could give me a New York NY address and zip code that might get me further than 123 fake street and a random selection of digits, I would be much obliged.
