Xbox 360 "New Experience" Mega Thread 2008 (broadband warning)

x360gamesbanner-1.jpg

This is a remake of my mega thread, my most time consuming one yet. I sifted through the last thread doing my best to remove the assy games while adding new, good ones, removing delayed titles, etc. First we'll start with a look back at the previous 360 years, before getting to the main meat of the thread, which is the year of 2008! These threads require a lot of labor so it would be appreciated if trolls/insults could be kept down a bit, the point of this thread is to serve xbox fans not to discredit other platforms. Xbla and XO titles are not listed in any particular order but retail titles are listed by their closest known release date followed by alphabetical order, so if you're looking to make a budget this is a nice thread to use! This thread is mod approved!

Other notes, I don't plan to add every shitty game, like spectral force 3 or something, to the thread, it takes up too much space and time to manage for nothing. I plan to use this thread all the way passed next e3, making the last one so early was a bad decision because e3 yeilds most game announcements, delays, etc and just wasted time, so i'm hoping to make this an anual post e3 thread. If anyone wants to help, simply take the format the post is in and post whatever and i'll edit it in if I can. I'm using my own host for images as well.

Special thanks to: Teamxbox/etc for images (hosted on my own account however)

Gaf: A mysterious gaffer made most of the banners you see in here, though asked to not be revealed, other gaffers helped compile the games list of stuff that should be added, and duckroll helped me highlight and approve the thread, so thanks!

Averages are from Gamerankings

Google Calendar with estimated release dates!

New retail structure contains links to ign (or other if not available) in the names as well as other information on the side. Tags that imply timed exclusive or platform exclusive are not meant to count last generation platforms (specifically, if its exclusive to xbla and not on another download service, it's counted as exclusive in context). Xbox originals will not be marked only on xbox if they were available on other last generation platforms however. Also note, links under the former years contain slideshows as gaf does not currently allow them, if that is ever added I will edit it in.

Year of 2005

The launch year of the 360, started out with a bang but was obviously short lived considering it only had a bit over a month to do it!

Year of 2006

The followup launch year, this is where the lineup started to take it's hold on diversity, but it was a more anemic year than the following ones.

http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v354/goldenpp72/360 2006/?action=view&current=d4dd9ae6.pbw

Year of 2007

Last year was a huge year for 360, launching its flagship title halo 3 along with dozens of other big titles, but even this year might pale in comparison to the upcoming year.

http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v354/goldenpp72/360 2007/?action=view&current=3ac57166.pbw

Year of 2008

This of course is for our current year, fleshed out in all of its glory, and now you can experience it all with a new low price!

Xbox Live Arcade was originally started with the xbox 1, but met with barely any kind of fanfare, once integrated into the 360 (from launch) it became a huge success! Here are some games to look out for, starting with a recap on prior years and then on to 08!

Year of 2005

This was actually quite an impressive start for xbla, giving quite a bit of playtime for the initial launch period.

http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v354/goldenpp72/360 exclusives/?action=view&current=5172b852.pbw

Year of 2006

This was a pretty bad year for xbla fans, while the service yielded a good amount of games, it was so slow and sparse between releases that fans grew restless, until xbla Wednesdays came about to regulate release schedules.

http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v354/goldenpp72/360 2006/?action=view&current=29109d27.pbw

Year of 2007

This is the year xbla really came into its own with tons of original content, a regulation of release dates and much more desirable retro ports.

http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v354/goldenpp72/360 2007/?action=view&current=0a593c98.pbw

Year of 2008

Then we move on to our current year, which has been rather fantastic and hasn't slowed down yet. Some may dwell on a good portion of the 'non gamer' stuff released, but plenty has been released for all sides.

Xbox originals was launched in 2007 and basically allows users to download xbox 1 titles directly to their 360s, only games with backwards compatibility can work however and no upgrades are available. Any flaws currently in the backwards compatibility list will apply to these as well, though sometimes performance is increased due to being directly on the harddrive.

Year of 2007

http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v...ginals/2007/?action=view&current=c56cae8f.pbw

Year of 2008

In our current year the xbox originals updates have been pretty small, some assume due to the limited penetration of larger 360 harddrives soon to be resolved in the new year.

In the fall, microsoft will be updating the 360 in a way that will reintroduce it to the market, and while some people are weary of the changes, I think they will bring great times to us all. Here is a nice rundown of some of the things to expect!

Avatars

Rare has done what they do best, take something nintendo made popular and improve it, the avatars will function similar to the miis found on the wii, but with superior graphics and integration into the xbox platform.

avatarcreation.jpg

Dashboard

The dashboard will see an entirely different, faster interface which is meant to accomodate content and usability far better. Note that themes and gamerpics still work!

new-xbox-experience-featuredgamesch.jpg

new-xbox-experience-pinata.jpg

new-xbox-experience-themed.jpg

new-xbox-experience-halo3.jpg

Guide

The guide will now be a mini version of the 360s current dashboard, with all the functions it used to have with a more responsive use of the memory! You can launch games from it in the xbox live arcade for example, making things more seemless.

Newguide360.jpg

Primetime

Coming soon, microsoft will be launching primetime, this is a channel that will have gameshows turned into games that make use of the avatars. They will 'broadcast' at specific times like a real gameshow, and have prizes that can be won for real! Another innovative step towards drawing in the casual market.

primetimeagain.jpg

Netflix

While the system already has microsofts video marketplace, their partnership with netflix will now allow people who have netflix accounts to turn their 360s into a netflix movie playing box, and since it's stream based you don't even need a harddrive upgrade! Expect this partnership to expand the netflix content a ton!

new-xbox-experience-netflix_instant.jpg

XNA

Microsoft tested out this function some months back, but it will fully launch in the fall. For those not in the know, it is a way for normal users to program and upload their own games for eventual sale, opening the gateways to pretty much anyone to make their game come true. Some of the results from this so far are..

The Dishwasher

Jellycar

Rocketball

Trilinea

trilinea-20080220014615971_640w.jpg

Other Features

Game installs, games can now be installed onto the HDD for faster performance.

Party system, up to 8 people can join a system based party system to do ANYTHING the system can do, playing any games, movies, looking at pictures, listening to music, etc. This means once a party is formed, it's seemless for everyone, no more clunky interfaces.

Lots of other stuff will be edited in here as I find it.

There you have it folks, a comprehensive list for 2008 as well as a small index of the last 3 years. Enjoy, and give thoughts on anything you like. Corrections, errors, and possibly additions will be added as called out. The only content that didn't make it in is marketplace content (too scattered) and hardware (too obvious) but aside that I think I have all bases covered.

Ok I had one hell of a time breaking that into 3 post since it kept breaking, but I had to do it due to gafs errors with text limits. Some of you who wanted the old thread to be updated, this is it, and this time it shouldn't break since we know the problems to expect. Also I renewed the host for a whole year so look away :) If something is wrong I will change it.

no problem, thanks to duckroll for helping me get the highlighting to work btw, sorry I didnt mention ya. This thread will hopefully be clean fun for the fans.

Awesome thread. It's weird, I've been looking forward to more games this year than I did last but I guess that's due to my varied tastes than anything. So hyped for way way too much to list.

yeah I kind of dont know what im in for until its too late, im burned out.

Edit: Yeah I have.. too many games I want, you should post the stuff you're interested in.

Holy crap! Good work dude, that must of taken a lot of effort. This list reminded me how amazing this years XBLA lineup has been. If you could do it for all three consoles that'd be badass.

Oh dear sweet lord, i just counted how much its going to cost me to buy all the games i want and its charted at over $1000. I hate this season.

Yes it is, did I put it in the thread accidently?

Coming soon is only meant to highlight a few games btw.. But ill add that since no fighters are in there.

Yeah it's nice to see new blood take the throne from another stagnate franchise, tony hawk will hopefully come back with a vengeance one day.
