Xbox Boss Phil Spencer Calls For Cross-Platform Ban Program

You don't understand what that means. He's taking reference from Twitter blocklists. Which are 100% political cancel tools to silence wrongthink. People will take a Twitter blocklist full of enemies and give it to the gaming companies to get those people banned from games as well.
"Keep shit on Twitter" he said... ;)

Hmmmmm, imagine for a second that if you were banned from Resetera then you were banned from NeoGAF as well.

I feel like the only people against this are the ones who constantly get banned and don't like facing the consequences of their actions. I also imagine if something like this were to ever get implemented it would mainly be focused on stuff like cheating, or the type of harassments you would never do in real life where you're not protected by anonymity
Your imagination is running wild. This is not a prediction, but a spoiler of what happens if all the companies team up to cross ban people from all platforms at once:

1) Starts with cheating, but infrastructure is in place to ban for any reason.
2) "Journalists" and twitter starts calling for banning anyone who disagrees with them.
3) The same people use your first nine words (I feel like the only people against this are) as the reason their new demands need to be met.
4) Every time there is a big election or notable political event, people get mass banned for disagreement with the same people.

The only way to unify would be by email address as the is the only real common unique piece of information between networks and you can't go about sharing email address information where consent has not been given - especially in Europe, so it is in effect not viable.

As much as I don't see this ever happening, I think it would be a great way to dissolve cheaters and hackers, lmao.

With multiplayer only titles being affected by cheaters and hackers frequently, topics like this are going to continue to come up. Because they're obviously wanting to do whatever they can to stop it. Thing is, they won't stop it. Those will always continue to find other means, etc.

If anything, give players the proper abilities to ban, kick, report, etc.

I've been banned from virtually every site I ever posted at. Including this one, multiple times back in the day.
Sites (message boards) are different, opinions can hurt fee fees, or people can go overboard.

Gaming services or online games, never been banned.

I say no to this due to the chances of error, and then the theoretical nightmare it would be to try to get unbanned while all of these companies with their historically awful customer service passed the buck over and over. No thanks.

The easiest way to do this would be to have accounts with the game publisher tied back to XBL, PSN, Steam, etc. IDs. A big no thank you to that. It's already annoying when Ubisoft, EA, Bethesda, etc. ask you for this when you boot a game.

Freedom is dangerous, we offer you safety.

Hmmm.... where did I see that before... Oh yeah, apparently everywhere.

Oh Noes. Somebody cheated in an online match let's start over policing and sharing/collecting everyone's data and have a central database. Get a fuckin grip.🙄
So what's the solution genius? Make stupid comments on how people who play games on a gaming forum are overreacting about cheaters? Stop being bellend and start using that small brain of yours.

Fascistic pieces of crap, both of them. Both Phil and Parris deserves to be punched in the face, evil scum. You know WHO will be silenced if this ever becomes real ? Whoever makes fun of China for example, or talks about Uyghur Turks. Fuck these people.

This is ridiculous because it gives no room for redemption, you slip up and say a bad word on XBL then you wake up to a ban across XBL, PSN, Steam, and Nintendo Switch online???

This reeks of the insane woke culture shit that seeks to destroy every aspect of your life for fucking up.

Seems a bit extreme. Although in fairness, Spencer does mention a personal ban list of players you don't want to play with. So, not a full system ban.

Basically their are a few jerks that you don't want to be paired with on Xbox, maybe there would be a way for you not to be paired with them on PS either. 🤷‍♂️

I think everyone agrees it would be a great way to get rid of cheaters. But this has nothing to do with cheaters.
I mean, it's the first thing regarding banning that I think of. So, it it was a quick connection for me, lol.

But of course, and unfortunately, such a thing could and would be abused by today's standards.

That's a good point.

Maybe an Xbox ban will one day revoke your windows license key and make your family disappear.

doesnt Activision banned linked accounts? effectively banning you from all platforms for X game?

anyway say hello to your digital overlords

Xbox is still in the "regain core audience goodwill" phase of rebuilding their audience.

Draconian ban practices that reach beyond the offence will not aid them in the long run. Unfortunately these giant corporations can't see beyond the insane, broken people that live on social media so we're going full-out safe space.

I still remember the first time I was told someone was going to fuck my mom while being pitted off the track into a wall in Forza 2. It was hilarious because my mom was old and gross. I didn't report the guy because it was nothing. Now, I'd be reported for assuming it was a guy.

The argument for censorship has always been "But we'll censor the right people. The bad people."

Poor poor Gaywood... :lollipop_fearful:

Microsoft explains Gaywood GamerTag ban

Microsoft's explained why it banned a man from using his surname as a GamerTag on Xbox Live. As reported yesterday, Richard Gaywood - GamerTag RichardGaywood - had his named blocked on the service as included the word "gay".

"We want the Xbox LIVE community to have the freedom to express themselves, but we also have a responsibility to create an inclusive, safe environment," Microsoft's Stephen Toulouse told Kotaku.

"While it may be clear to some that Gaywood is a legitimate surname, it may not be obvious to other Xbox LIVE members. In this case, a complaint was filed by a member of the community, requiring the Xbox LIVE team to examine the gamertag within the context of the Xbox LIVE Terms of Use. Based on the these guidelines, it was necessary for the GamerTag to change."

Political cancel tools. Get the fuck out of here.

Hey, maybe don't repeatedly post false covid facts or try to start a government insurrection and you might still have a Twitter account.

How about a cross-platform license program? Buy a multiplat on Xbox, keep playing on PS? And what about a cross-platform save program? Everything is on the cloud anyway.
