Xbox Live "reliability" has gone to shit this generation

I can count on one hand how many times I remember live going down during the time I played my 360. Now everything has changed with the One and things seem to actually be getting worse. It is a weekly thing now. Twice this week. It's insane how bad things are. Maybe I was spoiled during the 360 days but this shit is unacceptable. Here are things that happen on a regular basis:

-can't party with friends
-can't join friends' games
-can't sign into live
-app don't work (ie. Netflix requires sign in but won't sign in, or Hulu requires a disc for some reaaon)
-everyone shows as offline
-can't play online games solo
-can't play offline game that have a network component (ie. Dark Souls).

And much much more. This entire weekend Live has been spotty as fuck. Saturday it took us hours just to get everyone in a party and in the same game of Minecraft and Battlefield. Now today i can't join or create parties, and if I try to play a match of rocket league in a group it starts for 2 seconds and suddenly the game slows to a crawl like I'm using dial up. All the while the ever-familiar message of "Xbox Live Core Services Down" or "Xbox Social & Gaming down" are listed.

Next Gen my ass. We had this shit sorted out in 2008. what the fuck is going on now? Fix your shit Bill Gates.

Btw: I'm located in Canada

Lol Bill Gates.

Sounds like my mom whenever her computer is updating she says "Bill Gates is taking control of my computer again!"

But I agree, XBL has lost a lot of credibility.

Not that PSN is much better but, XBL used to be pretty great.

Bill Gates hears what you're saying and will work on programming fixes for all these issues.

But only after curing malaria.

Meanwhile, the Nintendo Network has no issues!

...

I mean, you can barely do anything with it, but godammit it's up!

It's getting ridiculous. There seems to be issues preventing me from logging in/playing online every week now.

Had to contact Bill Gates on Twitter

All those Windows 10 MAUs ruining it. Bring the Gold fee over.

Apps should be unlinked from the Xbox Live network. They should only need to rely on the provider and never be inaccessible because of Microsoft. By all means, use Xbox Live for the extra features like what people are watching etc. but never bring it down if the provider like Netflix is having no problems on their end.

I recently ditched my Live and PS Plus subscription, just doesn't feel like the service being supplied matches the yearly price, at all. Been pretty inconsistent overall. Most the games I play online have PC versions with server support anyway so I stick to that platform for free.

I was just talking about this with some friends the other day, and I completely agree with you. Constant issues with connecting to games, friends list showing offline, and the dashboard not loading anything other than the home page. I don't know how MS managed this after XBL on the 360 worked so well.

im online pretty much every day and while i dont play a wide variety of multiplayer games (mostly the different Halos, some Forza, the Division) i havent really encountered the problems listed in the OP with the kind of frequency some people seem to describe. i wonder why that is. is it a regional thing?

Yep it really has, I honestly don't remember 360 ever going down... but xbox one? it's down practically every day (slight hyperbole).

It's absolute shit. Unfortunately, the Xbox One subreddit doesn't mind the outages, they just want to be told why they're happening. I can understand if it's something that's been going on for a few months but it's been happening since launch. This should not be happening for this long, I will not be renewing Live after my sub runs out in July. There's no excuse to charge $60 for something that works less than half the time.

XBL has been pretty bad this gen imo aswell, OP.

I can't remember the last time I've had a stable party chat, and I always have problems with the dashboard. It can be so slow, it's a joke.

Yesterday the XBL Friends service kept going down for hours in the US, which made inviting friends into games pretty much impossible.

It took my destiny party hours to be able to play together. At least we played Perfect Dark on 360 BC instead (which was fine).

It's really weird that I now have less connectivity issues and better download speeds on my PS4, while last gen was the complete opposite.

What the hell, Microsoft.

Am I looking at things with Rose tinted glasses or was Xbox Live on Xbox 360 rock fucking solid? I remember short periods of trouble alongside the launches of Halo 3 and COD4, but that was it.

Insulting Bill Gates about Microsoft?

I just didn't even consider to compare it...because its that bad and leagues behind haha. I mean, yeah I guess that's not really fair, Nintendo Network is also no better than PSN or XBL lol.

Console gaming really needs to step up their game with online.

Had an issue last month, then last night and tonight when trying to join party chat with friends. Apart from that its been fine for me.

thats strange. i only noticed the news feed down for an hour or so before coming back on. that one seems to be the most glitchy in my experience, with failures to load in new items and such

didnt notice anything with the friends list

Yeah, also no thanks to the lizard gang or whatever they're called. Though idk how many times xbl has actually been down due to them.

I noticed this to. Xbox live on the 360 was pretty decent most of the time, but xbox live seems to be a lot worse in terms of reliability this gen.

I think during launch they announced 300,000 dedicated servers to X1?

Perhaps they need more with the convergence of X1 and Windows App Store. Too many people playing Solitaire online bogging down the network.

Yeah. Today is one of those days where it doesn't work and it keeps causing connection errors in Dark Souls 3 despite being in Offline mode. I hate how often it doesn't work. Like I'm paying for it so I want you to improve it some how so this doesn't happen as often as it does.

It's actually amazing.....I have had more fucking issues with xbox love this generation than PSN
Same. Then again I haven't been playing my PS4 hardly ever lol. But XBL is exponentially worse than it was in the 360 era. More than half of the time my friends and I try to play together shit just doesn't work and we get frustrated and call it quits before we even begin.

there were small intervals when the friends list worked ingame and we could play, but we mostly kept getting disconnected from games entirely.

it wasn't too much fun, might have been a US exclusive thing.

Do we always get a reminder that pc is free on the first page when someone threads about live/psn?

You stick to pc, but you were paying for live AND psn even though you play your online games on pc. Eh...

Xbox's fall from grace has been quite bad for the industry, no exclusives worth shit on Xbox One, system sucks, menu system is trash, online system is horrible, controller is average considering the hype on investing so much on improvements.

They benefited from Sony's fall with the PS3 and straight up bungled it with Sony coming back from the dead.

Well, at least on nintendo you can find your friends online and join their games, use some apps and... it's free. The free part is the best one though.

with PSN, all I know is that in those few rare cases a year where I do want to play online, it never works or has major issues during my playtime.
