Lmao.

It does blow my mind a little that people actually trust Blockbuster to still be in business by the time the Xbox One is out, or even for their nearest store to still be open.

Thats most likely because only the first person using the game would be able to redeem the online pass. Also if they left them in the cases some customer could just go to each blockbuster and take them all, then sell them.

Surely that is fair? That the first to rent it gets to use it? I would consider that fairer than no one getting to use it lol.

Besides which this is not some policy that BB has in stores. It is simply urchin staff that are stealing the passes to sell.

Manuals are kept behind the counter with discs, so no reason the pass wouldn't be with that unless taken. I rented Uncharted 3 from there, and it was actually printed on the manual, rather than a slip. That code worked just fine.

seems dumb to be taking preorders before you either know the price or how many you'll have at launch

but this is Blockbuster we're talking about... they aren't exactly known for smart business decisions

Rental companies sell the games on after they have been used. This is why keeping manuals and other inserts away might be more than spite. But if the ex-rental copies also lack online codes...thats something else.

Which is why Blockbuster are taking a £20 deposit which probably has in the small print that should you try to withdraw this for cash you will be offered store credit until you threaten them with legal action at which point the employees will shrug their shoulders and laugh at you.

No it isnt more fair. If you rent the game for 7 bucks and get to play online then the next person rents the same game for the same 7 bucks and cant play online how is that fair to the second customer?

You can rent the game, return it, then buy it later on that year when its on sale and you can still play online since you have the online pass tied to your account.

I realize this but buying a new 360 and needing a reliable internet connection daily are totally different things. I can Imagine people getting really pissed when the internet is out and they cant play their games......or they fall on hard times and can't afford to have internet at home anymore.

Anyway...to stay on topic. Who wound preorder something from blockbuster. That's a crappy gamble.

People will be listed when they have an Internet outage, or when they can't borrow a game from a friend. But by then they'll already have bought the console, so MS won't give a fuck and people will just suck it up and move on - sadly.

Because I was there on launch day at 09:00 am to rent the fucker. They were not.

That is like saying its not fair to sell the last of a product to someone in store, because the next person won't be able to have one.

lol.

Oh the damned irony. I guess they'll receive one last burst of funds before forever fading into oblivion.

We really need to be specific in this thread guys.

I can't tell if you're talking about Microsoft or Blockbuster, please label opinions accordingly.

It's really simple.

One is an out of touch media focused company, trying to hold onto old ways of selling video content while the world changes around it, refusing to see the writing on the wall and trying to screw consumers with unfair fees.

The other is Blockbuster

No its not. Its nothing like that. In your scenario the person isnt being sold anything.

Blockbuster is supposed to be selling the same product for the same price. They are not doing that if you are getting more for your 7 bucks than the person who buys the same product after you. The person renting the game after you shouldnt have to pay as much if everything was 100% fair.

Would you think its fair if Best Buy sold you a tv and then the next customer who came in got the tv, a blu ray player, and a set of speakers for the same price? If you found out you would turn around and demand to know why you got less for your money. Thats the reason Best Buy has a 30-60 day price match policy on their sales. I bought a tv from them and 20 days later they dropped the price. I went back in the store and they put the difference back on my card.

"Xbox one is setting records" - Company that doesn't exist anymore.

Pretty much my thought on this. I didn't even know you could still pre-order consoles at Blockbuster. =p

Hopefully this doesn't represent the type of demand that's out there for other stores.

we all already know how things work... look at how nintendo has change over the years, now microsoft. Those "casuals" consumers...

How can Blockbuster UK, break its pre-order record, when over half the stores were closed when the company was brought from the administrators?...

I smell I rat.

Wild sales every single day? You don't need to resort to hyperbole to make a point.

Anyway, the MS Christmas sale was better than Steam's....

Yeah.

Because Microsoft would mark down new releases 33%? Or games which are easily still selling at MSRP (i.e. Skyrim) at 75%? They still charge $29.99 for Gears 1 don't they?

We are not doing well with analogies. That is not the same either.

The online pass is something that is actually supposed to come with copies of the game. That is not the same as adding extra things, they are removing things that come with it normally.

Obviously, if a rental game comes with a code, then the first person that rents it and enters it, gets to use it. BB staff are removing codes to SELL themselves. It is not a store policy. You seem to be arguing it is. It is not.

But I guess this is way off topic now. So whatever.

It comes with copies of the game that you purchase. You didnt purchase the game, you rented it.

I dont agree that the first person should get the code. Im arguing that nobody should get the code. Its not fair that the 2nd person is getting less of a product than the 1st and is paying the same price.

Blockbuster should remove all codes as an official policy.

Gamefly does not supply online passes with the games they rent out. If you then decide to purchase that game from them, they will give you the online code. Thats how the blockbuster policy should be also. RedBox also does not give out online passes when you rent games.

I just don't understand why anyone would preorder a console (any console) before E3.

Me neither, but everyone is free to do whatever they want with their money.

Hell, pre-orders went up for the PS4 at certain locations right after the reveal. Since they didn't know the price the typical placeholder price I saw was $1000, but they'll refund you the difference when the official price is announced. The huge Sony fans jumped at those to make sure they got a PS4 day one, and it seems like the Xbox fans are doing the same thing.

I don't know why someone would do that because you don't know launch lineup, SKU's, price, release date, etc... All very important things to me. I'm hoping all of that is known after E3 for both consoles.

Most folk on here aren't the majority of console gamer.

The average Xbox 360 gamer, spends more time watching films and TV than playing games, and when they do play a game it's the blockbusters, IE CoD, Halo, Gears, Forza and Sports.

And that's who MS are gunning for with the Xbox One. I'm surprised they didn't call the machine Bro Xbox.

Anyone with a gold account will have noticed that those games are just about the only thing that anybody plays online. The rest have dead servers after a month with anyone who is dedicated moved over to PS3.

As someone who only has a PC and 360 and has no interest in most of the popular 360 games the MP scene has almost passed me by that's why I wasn't planning on buying another MS console even before the reveal blew up the internet.

Hopefully then I can play some MP console games like the rest of you PS3 gamers are.

I remember MCV reporting record breaking ps3 pre-orders in 2007, and GameStop selling out of pre-orders almost immediately in 2006. Turned out to be mostly scalpers overestimating demand.
