Xbox One dashboard snappier, speed is a priority in current firmware update

The performance moving around has always felt slow because of ten transitions and how web dependent it was. The side bar for friends achievements and messaging is so fucking good though. Way better in actual usage than blades, nxe, really anything else that I use regularly. Anyone who says that they'd prefer to go back to blades please stop.

This means I should enter the LLC dns in the router right?

A german game site made a video about how fast the UI is now for them with the latest preview update

https://youtu.be/Ne3FvQste0M

Sweet Jesus is that fast! I just learned to live with the slightly slower speeds previously, but now I want that update! Can't wait to get to regular release version!

In the meantime it looks like I might have to play with my DNS settings tonight. My Xbox One S UI isn't unbearably slow, but it seems like the changes mentioned can speed it up anyway.

Fun fact: Just before that update I decided to leave the preview program because the UI got so slow for me! #KarmaIsABitch
Hah, don't worry, we won't have to wait long. I bet public release is by mid-November at the latest.

how do you look up this information?

thanks in advance

also, do we switch the dns address in router settings as well?

Just google DNS benchmark and the run the program on a PC that is in the same network as your xbone.

If you change the DNS on your router, you won't need to change it on your connected devices if they use your router to supply the DNS.

Glad they are looking into this.

Really though, I just want double tap home button to reliably bring up the blade menu.

Half the time I double tap, I get a 5 second delay before the console finally goes out to the Xbox Home screen. No, that's not what I wanted to do. It shouldn't be this difficult.

Oh I don't worry but it was unfortunate for me that I just left 24 hrs before Mike Ybarra posted that tweet that the then newest update would improve UI performance by a lot.

As you may know if you change your subscription status you can't cancel or change it back until you are out. Then when the change comes into effect it also does a full download of the release version of the OS (4.1GB) and a complete console reset.

Thankfully all my games are on external drives but you still have to go through all the config and calibration steps for Kinect, TV and such. So switching between Non-Preview and Preview is not like a walk in the park :)

Since the update, which I agree, has sped up the x1 considerably, I noticed my input lag has reduced considerably, resulting in more kills when playing GOW4. Anyone else notice quicker response times in games?

Games didn't have any added input lag due to dashboard sluggishness lol.
Gotta be placebo.

Do you still need an invite to get into the preview program? If so, could a gaffer maybe hit me up with an invite?

You still need an invite and afaik the number of slots for being in the program are restricted. So a invite is no guarantee to be able to join the program.

And it also used to lag when you'd scroll up and down the guide, as it didn't fully cache the messages and friends and stuff. Now it's super smooth.

Oh yeah, definitely. I've been using the achievement tab a lot the last few days as I play through Shadow Warrior, and I found it annoying just moving down to the achievements tab. Again, I haven't tried it out in-game yet, but if it's as good as it is in the dash then I'm pretty happy with this update.

After E3 last year or the year before, I sent an invite to half a dozen people and I don't think any of them actually got into the program.

Just booted the console, at first it was the same and I just thought "the fuck, it's still the same slow dashboard we had before" but then I did a hard reset and daaaamnn, it's so much faster now.

To those who feel that the dash is still slow, try a hard reset, you guys will notice the difference instantly :)

I switched mine to OpenDNS. No visible difference but it's apparently better.

If I got back to normal, the Xbox slows up again. It's night and day

Is the preview program tied to your account or your system?

I just got a new XB1 S but had the preview program on my old system.

The program is bound to your account afaik. You should be able to download the preview app and subscribe to the preview updates on your new Xbox One S. You may have to cancel your other subscription first if it doesn't work the easy way.

I really hope they work on the speed of snapped apps. It's embarrassing slow.

This is exactly why I think they should provide the option for a single press of the Xbox button for the guide and a press and hold for the dashboard.

I did notice it being snappier after downloading the update yesterday. I thought "was it always this way?" lol. Made me doubt myself.

OT I know but I'm not a fan of the Xbox UI at all. It just seems.. all over the place. I stick a game disk in and??? have to go hunting for where the icon is to start the game. Back button (B) functionality is inconsistent. There is not enough feedback still about the status of game install/updates. Pins being way down the bottom has rendered them all but useless and kinect takes forever to log me in no matter how often I go through the setup for that.

I'm sure plenty do which is why I suggested it on their suggestion site but they removed my suggestion =/

I have plenty of great ideas for how to take the OS forward but have no idea how to reach out to MS.
They removed my suggestions to offer a light theme option like on Windows 10. Mike said outright "no" to my question on Twitter.
I think there are some things that they can change and offer options but shouldn't or won't due to some restrictions.

Mike who, Mike Ybarra? I wouldn't mind reaching out to him on Twitter.

It's absolute horseshit that they delete suggestions. The current way that the Xbox button works is so broken that it's a daily frustration to use. This is not the way they should be taking user input.

If you press RT on home screen it goes straight to your pins.

RT to jump to the bottom of the home screen. Game disc is always the lowest icon on recent applications page.

Yea, @XboxQwik. He can't answer every question, obviously, he only answered mine on the second try.
I'm guessing there are some legal restrictions or maybe the Marketing dept. won't let them change certain things or functions of the console. It's not like they delete suggestions often, yours is the only other case I've heard. Reddit would have been full of complaints if it was a common occurence.

Cool thanks. I can't think of a single good reason why they can't consider my suggestion or at least let the community vote on it. I spent a decent amount of time elaborating why my suggestion made more sense than the current implementation.

Press and hold is to turn off the console or controller. That should stay.

But I'm on board with double tap being "Go to dash" while one press being Guide.
