Lol @ people taking Miles seriously.

I know its a late reply, but I never get how people like him are allowed to keep doing it.

If you literally cant take anything someone says seriously, they arent adding to the conversation, and in his case, at least, just provoking others.

These are unquestionably the two best looking console games I have ever seen and they are both stepping on PC games toes. Not saying the XB1 cannot produce similar graphics but as of this moment I have not seen them.

I think ryse is very comparable to the order. Especially for a rushed launch game. I obviously have not played the order on my own TV yet, but I wouldn't look at either game and think its far better than the other.

Without the weather FH2 looked just as good if not better than driveclub in some areas. And being open world I think its very impressive when compared to driveclub, a very limited track racer.

I'm not seeing how these titles are proof of a huge power advantage for PS4

Ryse? Best looking console games by a long shoot.

The PS3 had theoretical much more power than X360 but games hardly showed it.

Why are there Drive Club and The Order gifs in this thread? Great derail!

They were posted as a direct response to a question.

Owning both Ryse and FH2 I would have to disagree. I think Ryse and KZSF were the two best looking launch titles with Infamous being in their league but the Order and DriveClub look quite a bit better. Having actually played the long demo at PSX the IQ and Fidelity of the Order is well above anything currently available.

No.

Sorry for drop by post but how many recent games (not launch games) actually showed those crazy difference that the actual numbers claims?

Most of them.

Just because the likes of DF for some reason like to pretend the scaling artifacts from having a lower than native resolution do not exist does not mean that they don't.

The PS3 was an enigma hardwarewise

The Xbox One and PS4 are basically the same machines only one is quite a bit less powerful than the other.
Neither point you made here is true

Ps3 was no enigma. It just took a lot of precise memory and GPU management to get the most out of it. Same as X1 now.

And they are not the same machine or "quite a bit" far apart as you said.

And before you post that same list of specs people keep posting, consider this. PS4 is 1000% more powerful than PS3. That would be considered "quite a bit more powerul" yet people argue that the graphics are not a huge Jump. PS4 being ~ 40% stronger than xbox isn't "quite a bit" more powerul in comparison.

More powerful yes, but not as big of a gap as people like to say there is

It had an inferior GPU by a fair stretch, plus a harder to manage split memory system, and most cross platform games showed it. A few first party games that used the Cell to help out the RSX and arguably looked best of that gen, though that part of this metaphor doesn't apply to the 8th gen as the small CPU difference isn't as related to graphics (the Cell was made more GPU-ey, and was supposed to *be* the only GPU in there initially but wasn't enough, which was why it could be used to help out the RSX).

I don't understand Japanese, can someone summarise??

Google Translate or just Google 'PS4 SDK 2.0' it was translated on a banned website so I only posted the original link.

It was a big update for the camera & speech recognition stuff but it also updated the GPU/CPU Physics API .

Not quite, the PS3 was an order of magnitude worse to develop for, on top of the split memory you had all those SPUs to deal with which had no debugger for the majority of the lifespan of the console iirc. You couldn't really get around not exploiting the SPUs either considering how weak the GPU was. As for the eSRAM in the bone, from what I remember reading its not really exposed much to devs and is mostly handled automatically by the SDK/compiler. This update sounds like its giving devs some higher level control over it.

Nothing comes remotely close to Drive Club at the moment. Can't take The Order seriously due to black bars though.

What the fuck did I just read?

As far as the XB1 improvements I think this is a good thing for multiplatform games going forward. Some developers will push both machines as hard as they can but for those that aim for parity at least it won't be as bad as it was.

In the earliest stage of development game designers were puzzled how to turn the damned devkit on. That's just one story.

So it was.

I personally would never include a game into a "best graphics" debate that cuts off huge parts of the picture. But I know that this debate is really worn out, so I will leave it at that.

Honestly the waves rippling through the boards in The Order was the first thing in a while that made my jaw drop. Did anyone make a GIF/Webm of that?

Good that we are still seeing huge performance upgrades, but dear lord, Ms! How come after a whole year and your devkit still doesn't expose a proper API to manage the central point of your console's design?

And Jesus Christ at some people in this thread, I just read the first two pages and was already sore.

Care to elaborate? Especially since you found Shadow of Mordor to have the best graphics this year...

Not sure if it's a good idea to derail this thread further so I will make it quick... Best graphics this year goes to Drive Club + Weather patch, Mordor was just the best looking PC game I played this year. Maxed out @60fps running on 2x970 it was very pretty IMO. Very good looking weather effects, nice textures, animations, foliage, lighting and tessellation. Something about Quantum Break looks dated to me, especially geometry and lighting seem to be lacking. Let's see how it develops closer to release, but for now I would not want to include it into those comparisons. Alan Wake on 360 was plagued by technical issues as well.

Yeah, I don't buy it. Game looks heaps better than Mordor does even at 30 fps. Geometry lacking? The game is tessellating the hell at of everything to accomplish the time distortion effects. It's also got the same kind of volumetric lighting goodness that Alan Wake had.

Well... I also gues the massive downgrade Dying Light receved in the last few months also helped get it to 1080 on XB1.

Have the developer ever commented on that? In recent trailers the lighting and finer geometry detail shown in earlier demos was gone completely.

Reminds me of the Watch Dogs downgrade. Game went from looking next gen to looking like a 360 remaster.

I don't think that's the case at all, I watched a short preview playthrough and it looks great.
