Xbox One S : First Unboxing Geoff Keighley

August!

Ok now Neo is dead. At least in the US...

People will jump on this thing for UHD and they won't see a that big difference on games with Neo to justify the purchase.

At least it's what I'm thinking and it's probably what I'll do.

Oh and a quick questions for the one who know better, I've heard in the video Gears using HDR and this to be compatible with Xbox One S. What does that really mean? HDR and upscaled output or HDR and my TV will do the upscale?

Thanks for the answer ;)

(I really want to know more about Neo... the more they keep being silent the more they'll loose sales)

So the stand only comes with the 2TB version.

Wondered how much it would retail for?

I was also hoping they would have released the technical specs by now. I wonder if they have upgraded the SATA interface.

In Italy you can pre-order the 2TB for 400,99€ So is safe to say that the 500GB is 299, the 1TB 329/349 and the 2TB 399.

For HDR you need a 4k HDR T.V, if you have one the games that take advantage of it will have much more vibrant colours.

What about front to back? If I'm not mistaken the PS4 is actually longer than the fat XB1 front to back.

Yep, the length of the PS4 will no doubt be longer.

Thanks. Sony KD49X8505 is the one I'm looking at right now. Will keep a Sony one but I'll look at other models too (sad thing is all are Android TV now... urgh).

I'm not sure if that TV has HDR? I can't find specs where it does. You might want to look into that.

Oh thanks for the remark. C model has HDR (the one I'm looking at) but yeah B doesn't (last year's version I guess).
So Sony KD49X850C but I'll take my time. Only UHD Blu-Ray I have is Deadpool and I don't even have Netfilx or anything else in 4K. I wanted to have a few models in mind for the end of the year sales ;)

49" because I'm not that far from my TV and I prefer 4K with higher density pixels (maybe not the appropriate term for TVs but you get my point). Edit: no more 49" it seems :'(

Sorry for the little off topic people but I think the TV related thread in GAF will be filled with questions soon :)

Mass market 4K is near.

If this ever gets down to $200 or less, it would make a beautiful tv box for my bedroom. MS really outdid themselves with the design.

It won't be anytime soon. It's already very cheap for what you are getting. It'll probably be a few years before it hits that.

They will probably bundle 2-3 games during the holiday. But official price cut to $200, yee not happening anytime soon.

Most def do appreciate the size reduction and the fact I can finally fucking stand it upright.

Can you just imagine how much better the One would have sold if the geniuses went and did this from the get go? I still have yet to understand to this day how the One wound up not only larger than my 360s but came with a brick too AGAIN on top of that.

Doubt my current system would sell for much so still on the fence a bit bout trying to pawn it off to get an S. Though yeah saving desk space am sure Ill do it soon enough once I see if they even hit over here.

Agree with others that the S most def does look nice.

What's strange is the same designer designed (Carl Ledbetter) Xbox One S. Probably had more say and\or guidance from Panos.

Just remember all the issues that the 360 had, which was at least partially down to its size.
The Size served both to reduce heat, but also noise.

Aw man I misunderstood the title and I thought the team that was making the Xbox one S was going to be unboxing Geoff Keighley. Sounded like my kind of video tbh.

2013:
"Hey carl, draw me a media consumption device!"
Okay

2016:
"Hey carl, draw me a game console!"
Okay

Do appreciate that they actually went all out with the redesign too and not just some diet-lite sorta job where they hack off pieces to make it appear smaller.

Its why I never liked the PS3 slim model with that weird ass sliding bay cover as you know that thing is so going to break sooner than later down the line with how it felt when opening / closing it. Though having easy access to the disk was also appreciated where as I remember with OG PS3 if a disc gets stuck you are pretty much SOL. Unless you want to take the thing apart. Its one thing I never liked about the modern consoles was that aspect of the "disc eating" for loading.

Yeah, and adding a UHD player really surprised the hell out of me. Esp for the price. It was a great redesign and adding more value. Very pleased to see.

I suppose the positive thing about my situation with not being able to replace my Advanced Warfare XBO is Ill at least have a functioning unit and can sit around to see how the early build quality of the S is. Once I have a good idea of how things are with the units can look into securing one. Plus since there is no "graphical" difference, dont have to worry about needing one like at launch either. So its just more a saving space issue than anything.

Its nice that it looks like the USB plug is in the front now? Since always went wtf at the fact the OG it was on the left side

people using vertcal stand ?
Is it viable now or stability can still cause scratch on disk if you make console move by accident.

Dunno what kinda ps4 you bought lol.

The same as everyone else's. PS4's are loud when playing a great many games. I had a launch unit that was incredibly loud and now I have a newer model (Vader) that is also incredibly loud. It is game dependent (Destiny is silent, Uncharted 4 sounds like a vacuum).

I combined this and this and this image into this for size reference:

If this is what you need to stay completely silent

100% fine by me !

So the XB1s is still bigger than the PS4?
If it is it just shows how much of a hardware masterpiece the PS4 is, i wonder if we'll even get a smaller version of the ps4 in the future

This has nothing to do with hardware masterpiece. You can always go smaller, but then you need a louder fan to bring out all the hot air, which basically is what the PS4 is doing at the moment. Hopefully they make Neo a little bit bigger, so they also get it more silent.

Ya, of course official prices take forever to go down, but store sales or factory refurbished would be fine for me. I wouldn't be surprised if we see a cheap bundle on Black Friday 2017.

If anybody has seen one yet or is at the show how quiet is the new Xbox? I like that there is no power brick, but I love the fact that my xbox one is dead silent while playing games. PS4 on the other hand... fucking jet engine.

Yeah, and that jet engine level fan noise. What a hardware masterpiece. Maybe the PS4 Slim will replicate the space shuttle launch.

I'll grab one when they release it in black, otherwise it would clash with my entertainment center and everything within it. I've just been waiting for a slim version of the Xbone, but now I may be waiting for the correct color.

Geoff plugged it in and powered it on and I couldn't hear any noise, but that doesn't really say much since it's in a studio so the noise could easily drown out, plus it was just powered on with no game running so not a good example..
