Xbox One S : First Unboxing Geoff Keighley

Just waiting for my Bestbuy Rewards to come in and pre-order this bad boy. Also have a 10% birthday discount so i'll shave a little money off this. :)

I just really hope the audio support for UHD is top notch. Like the inclusion of Dolby Atmos/DTS-X and other HD codecs/sountracks. Right now the current xbox one doesn't do this...

But i very interested to see how HDR works and if it will only be set on game per game basis. OR, will the UI also support HDR and will apps update to support HDR. Such as netflix, hbo go and etc. OF course, the older movies that dont' support hdr wont receive the benefit, but things that can be updated you know?

Unboxing it made me jelly. Looks so Amazing, light and easy to take around. Going to be great fitting it in my tv stand. Current XOne barely fits. heh

Hype!

I might sell my Xbox and get this mostly because I want to sell my friend a cheap Xbox so we can play Gears together. What's a good price for a 1TB xbox one these days?

You won't need a creative dude making them compatible. The controller will be compatible with Android and iOS (10). Primarily for streaming from Xbox to your device. Will be announced later this year.

Will this also be available for the old Xbox One? Because afair Sony built in a dedicated remote play chip for that.

The multiple polka dot indention's seem like it will be a nightmare to clean the dust out :(
Shocked to see that it has a pairing device button, I was like, what!, X1 has this button as well? I've never had to get up and press a pairing button on my PS4, I hated the wii u for that, it just old technology.

It's also sad that they couldn't even make the console smaller than a PS4 and to top it off they announced the Scorpio already!?

Atleast they are doing things right with the controller, hopefully it pushes Sony to step up their game by releasing a new PS4 pro controller or something.

this is gold.

Anyway, I think I Microsoft could have priced it even lower if they wanted to.
They practically got rid of everything that made the One a bit pricy to manufacture.

Something I am very curious about is the hdmi outputs - we can assume it'll be 2.0a, from the HDR. Where I'm slightly worried though, this seems to be single output yeh? Both 4k HDR bluray players revealed and released so far have dual outputs - one hdmi 2.0a for HDR playback, and another sub hdmi port for audio to an external amp.

Consider many people may also be in a similar situation to myself, where the TV supports HDMI 2.0a, but the amps are unable to support pass through as they are 2.0 tops, with a port limited to 12gbps transfer speeds. Hence, we are left with a choice - ARC from tv to amp, limiting us to 5.1 surround sound, or finding an external solution.

Hopefully, both the Slim and PS4K support sub hdmi output, to allow us to keep both HDR video and 7.1 trued audio. The sub port is audio only 2.0, plenty enough for object surround sound. A man can wish!

i cant really get at mine cause how its in my entertainment center

but I am almost positive the OG bone has that exact same circle cut out above the main components, its harded to see because the "grill" is angeled backwards, where the "grill" on this is flat

I'm not a fan of the sharp edgy looking design that both Sony and Microsoft went for this generation, but Xbox One S is certainly a big improvement. I only wonder if it is just as quiet as the launch model or if it's more like PS4. I can live with the size of the Xbox One just because it's so darn quiet. Love it, especially when watching movies.

I waited until last summer to buy the Xbox One because I didn't want the big one. Phil Spencer said it was not a priority for them at that point so I went ahead and bought the console anyway after E3.

Not that I regret it at all, I've had some great fun with my Xbox One so far, but I always wanted that slim model... Guess it'll be too hard to resist.

Phew, had me worried. Luckily my receive supports this..

Doesn't PS4 requires you to physically plug the controller into the console to pair? Please correct me if I'm wrong here, that's how I've always had to do it on my system. For me that's more inconvenient than just pressing the pairing button and walking away.

yep, the only time you never have to pair is if you only use the controller that comes with the PS4 and choose to never use that controller as a BT controller for anything else. otherwise you need a cable to pair.

i'd rather have the button.

Lucky - my NR636 is a few years old, with a 2.0 HDMI that only supports 12 Gbps tops. Thankfully the blu rays players offer sub audio that my amp can support, and most games have 5.1 surround tops (aside from a few notable, CoD and Uncharted to name two who work to 7.1)

Hopefully, as long as the devices are HDCP 2.2 compliant the devices will handshake and work to a top capability. 4k is 4k, regardless of HDR compatibility. This HDMI business is confusing even for a semi tech-sav like myself. Apologies for making you worried!

How is it still bigger than the PS4? what prevented it from being smaller?
Theories?
Perhaps because they want it to run quiet?
My PS4 was really loud for 90% of the games, and seems to be that way in general. Hopefully Neo's 14nm will resolve that.

What is the point of it? Ventilation? I actually dont like that at all..and am wondering how obvious it will be when setup in my home.

Kinda hoping its remote like Sony.

In home streaming to a phone seems....pointless. iPad on the other hand?

But surely MS has the capability to stream anywhere if Sony does.

Gorgeous console.

Watching that video, though, I'm reminded of how unlikable Major Nelson is, to me.

My brother doesn't like him, either. He's definitely not as likeable as, say, Naomi Kyle or any of the three Outside Xbox people, but I'd say that there are worse people who can get in front of a camera and talk about games. I mean I can't think of anyone who already does it (apart from maaaaybe Jose Sanchez from EP), but in general, he's not the worst at what he does.

Also, I agree that it's an awesome looking console; I'm very much considering getting one, but I'll wait to see if 1) it comes in black and 2) if GameStop Canada has a trade-up deal.

Okay, I laughed when he said "We call it a 'unibody' design. Like, come on. Apple's been throwing that marketing word for years.

I actually like him. He's always energetic and dorky as hell, but that's kinda endearing.

I don't know....He's always passionate about the brand, but he's the type of personality you either like or not. He's a fun contrast to Phil and everyone else.

Major Nelson said "starting at $299" and was going to say something after but, got cut off. I wonder what other options there will be? Has there been word on this?

It's the cooling fan exhaust. Unlike most consoles the XBO fan is connected directly to the heatsink and exhausts out the top instead of out the back. The fan in the XBO is massive, which is how the console can remain practically silent while providing really good cooling. The larger the fan, the slower it needs to run in order to provide decent airflow. The One S seems to have the same size fan, possibly a little smaller, and this is definitely a good thing. I'm actually a little worried about the Scorpio because the video shows it having a blower setup similar to the PS4 and most GPUs. That could potentially lead to a significantly louder system. Hopefully it's heat dissipation is good enough that the fan doesn't have to crank up too much.
