I wonder why sites like IGN never talk about the actual difference between the consoles such as the hardware. They keep saying the two are basically the same, but never highlight the difference in the GDDR5 vs DDR3.
Yeah I know that most multiplats are going to design around the lower specs. But I would say it's worth highlighting, given first party titles are really going to shine on PS4 in comparison to Xbox One. It's just annoying, because I feel like gamers should be informed on the actual difference between the consoles spec wise. It might inform someone to make a different choice if they knew.

For the gamer? Absolutely none.
...and I'd question the motives of anyone who said otherwise. You have to be a pretty hardcore fanboy to look at MS's conference and say that for gamers, their conference was better than Sony's.
That said, it was a different type of reveal, and if rumors are to be believed, they held it damn near just to get all the non-gaming stuff out of the way so that all of E3's conference can be about the games. If that's actually the case, I'll be well pleased.

Because they aren't game developers? 99% of us know fuck all about what the specs mean as far as games are concerned. I'd be willing to bet there will be great looking first party XB1 games just as there will surely be great looking PS4 games.

Er...but isn't that their job to know that? I do get your point about the average gamer not knowing fuck all (believe me, I would never to claim to be an expert. Hell, I even screwed up the DDR3 just now and was corrected).
But it's still something they could mention in passing as a possible advantage. Not saying they have to go into complex details about how each one is different.
