Xbox One X - Available November 7 for $499

Dude, who is this for? Microsoft carved out their corner of the market this generation by making a console that basically served as an all-in-one multimedia box. Like it plays games, and that's a major focus of the console, but it was designed with the idea of replacing your Blu-ray player, Apple TV, Roku, cable box, and old game console all at once. It's marketed towards a more general consumer. The One X is an enthusiast product, being sold at an enthusiast price, but it's being marketed towards a base that (generally) has no interest in an enthusiast product. You could say they're trying to get part of Sony's audience, the enthusiast who prioritizes games and wants the best gaming experience possible, but the One X doesn't have the library of games to make PS4 players jump ship and choose it over the PS4 Pro.

So again, I ask; who is this for?

EDIT: Oh, well I guess we're starting the page with this.

If I didn't have a decent PC with a 1070 I'd be interested in this. I'm going to put any gaming budget towards rebuilding my tower to a small form factor I can put in my media console under the TV. Might consider a XBOX after the first price drop.

They did a pretty poor job of selling me on this. Hopefully more media/stories this week

It's cool that the console is small and pretty decent specs, but I saw no reason to buy it at this time. No retroactive updates to games like Sunset or Halo 5, why not just move forward on PC where new games will be released?

i mean its not bad considering...wtf 4k 60fps on pc is $1000 of dollars.... and on top of you getting 4K @60fps,. youre getting a UHD player which runs between 250-500 itself too for half the price on components to have a capable PC rig for 4K @60fps gaming...

its priced perfectly. not for entry level consumer..but hey thats why ONE S is there. this is for the enthusiast of gamers. so chill.. lol

SO both Sony and MS priced their new HW at the original price of the old HW.
Which is fine for Sony but didn't Microsoft learn anything from the XB1 launch where they had to kill off Kinect and drop the price?
I mean they've already tried this. What's the deal, why try again?

That's an odd statement.

When Scorpio was first revealed a lot of people were throwing out $599+ price tags considering the power they promised in the box. As we got nearer to launch people seem to get so wrapped up in the hopes for a ridiculous low price they seemed to forget what they were getting in the box and weren't being realistic.

People are surprised because it's total suicide to announce it any higher than $399, at that pricetag it will be completely overlooked by your average consumer. We just assumed Microsoft had more sense than that, despite all the evidence against it.

theres that word again. obviously this isnt targeted towards your average consumer. neither is the ps4 pro. its not a product for the masses. its not replacing the base xb1. this is the premium version of the xbox one targeted at xbox enthusiasts.

Day 1 even at $500. Was a great conference in my opinion. Pacing was great, lots of cool looking games, and the ones that were supposed to look amazing did. Crackdown was a bit of a downer, but that's just because I thought they would show more of it. Otherwise, I can't wait to upgrade.

AUD$649. Ouch. They're clearly not interested in selling a lot of these things. Great hardware, but at that price, I'll stick with my Xbox One S and PS4 Pro.

The thing I don't get, and this applies to the PS4 Pro except less so because it isn't 500 bucks, is won't the power of these consoles be held back because they have to support the original hardware? I mean, I'm sure they scale nicely for 4K TVs, but as someone with a 1080p television, my only benefit is slightly better images with the supersampling, slightly faster load times, and that's about it? Unless you have a nice 4K TV, this just seems like a minor bump?

I think people need to realize the whether if it's pro or the one x their cheaper brethren, the slim and the one s are going to be the ones pushing the hardware totals.

1080p does have it's advantages but the returns are indeed like you said, less noticeable unless you have a 4k display, no matter how hard people tries to bend it

$499 USD is a fair but also disappointing price, but again, MS now has the One S to be that cheap UHDBR player that plays games that goes on $199 every now and then

Well they had a legitimate change to bring me back in but nothing I saw today makes the upgrade worth it. Shame really.

650AUD is ridiculous at this point, haha.

I'm fine with a box what plays all my games in 4K for £450.

I get why people didn't want it a bit cheaper but christ, people are having meltdowns in here. When it was announced everyone thought $399 was bonkers, now we're going nuts because it isn't.

All your games? you'll probably get '4Kinda' in many AAA games, just like the Pro.

Before the conference I expected it to come in at $499, but then when I didn't see an Elite controller at the start of the show, I thought $399...

seems like a really small crisscrossing segment of the market.

They only mentioned 60fps on Forza

it's probably not that dissimilar to what the X is going to be. It's still beholden to the "Xbox One" as a platform, and that's going to limit the power difference and how it's utilized. That part is probably what surprised me the most.
Yup, it's still a Xbox One. So if you own an S and don't have a 4K or don't want to upgrade you don't have to in order to play Xbox games. Though I feel Xbox fans feel more desperate for a new console than PS fans, maybe I'm wrong.

Very niche product at this price point. Love the console but don't wanna pay for it until $400. Sticking to my guns as a huge xbox fan.
