Xbox Originals coming to an end

Seems like a dumb idea to me.

For us sure, for the company though it might save them money.

Part of the reason I don't care is I can't even buy most of the stuff I want being on the Japanese marketplace.

:( :( :( :(: :(

Halo 2, Munch, JSRF, Panzer Dragoon Orta, Otogi....yeah... :(

I'm surprised IGN's article didn't end with

"Sorry xbox fans"

But that does suck that they are ending it (if it's true, remember it is from IGN).

Well Halo 2 is pretty much certain to be the final Xbox Original. And the other games at least have some vague chance of being rereleased in some way.

But Munch and Stranger are pretty much lost to history, seeing as how Oddworld Inhabitants doesn't make games anymore.

FUCKING PIECE OF SHIT 500 ERROR. SERIOUSLY FUCK.

They want you to buy the current gen titles, which you won't have to worry about keeping next-gen am I right?

Why exactly are they stopping? I dont' get it.

I mean, the pricing is horrendous, but still doesn't make sense why they would just stop.

Probably because no sequels are coming out for any outstanding Originals? Pretty sure the final original will be Halo 2.

Some of the 360 games are going to be $20. Selling $15 XBOX games alongside would look foolish, so they'd have to lower the price to at least $10. The bandwidth and server costs would probably fetch a better ROI by selling 4MB themes for $4.

Aaaahhhhaaahhhhh!$$%^&**&^%$#!!!! How can they not support the best game on the Xbox1?! I've had a copy of Stranger's Wrath sitting right next to my 360 forever waiting for some support. I e-mailed M$ and nothing ever happened...so disgusted that they refuse to support such an incredible game.

Lots of negativity in this thread.

Clearly the demand simply hasn't been there for V1 Xbox games. Virtual console works on Wii due to the nostalgia factor. V1 is simply not old enough for nostalgia and clearly outclassed by X360 efforts across the board.

Hence I understand the rationale.

Halo 2 will be the final game.

Hey guys... how many full PS2 games are downloadable on PS3?

Fine by me for two reasons...

They eat up far too much HD space
I can usually find the physical version cheaper in the store.

Oh I think the demand is there.

But not $15 worth of demand when you get the same titles at any EB Pawnstop for $5-10 or cheaper from other places.

The demand wasn't there for three reasons:

1- The majority of the games on the service could be found for cheaper, at brick and mortar shops.

2- At times, the XBO versions ran worse than the disc version.

3- Some gamers like myself, are still on there 20gb HDD, and have to manage space carefully. Not to mention the bigger HDDs are pricey.

Well, when you put 6 year old games up for 15 dollar seach that you can get for 5 bucks anywhere...of course it's going to fail.

They never put much effort into the service to begin with, and the games are extremely overpriced. They're releasing thirty X360 games – more than the current amount of XBO games available – for download in August, and it'll really show how bad the pricing is. For example, why get Burnout 3 for $15 when I can get Burnout Paradise for $20? Why get Jade Empire for $15 when I can get Mass Effect for $20?

If games were priced more reasonably, like at $10, and they actually tried to release some good games for it like Star Wars Battlefront 2, Halo 2 or PGR2 instead of Zapper and BlowOut, the service would've been much more popular. Instead, there were long droughts and when games finally came, they were games like, well, Zapper and BlowOut.

I'm not surprised they're killing this off.

I doubt the last one is even going to be Halo 2. The ghosting in single player unfixed for a paid version would be pretty embarrasing.

Why do folks care about this?

Did any of you actually buy any of these titles for 15 dollars? Really? REALLY??

They're pricing structure and the limited storage meant that all of the games that they put on the service was doomed. Add to the fact that they're going to be releasing full downloads of Xbox 360 games in the future that will probably be for 20-40 bucks, and the Xbox Originals would just be wasting server space.

I'm still interested in seeing what Microsoft is going to do for console hdd space problems when they launch their Xbox 360 game download service...

Boooooooo. Fuckers didn't even put Phantom Dust up yet. Goddamnit, I already own three hard copies and I'd buy it again in a second if you'd let me :(

You'd think they'd drop the prices to 10 bucks and see if the sales increased before cutting the program entirely. Oh well.

I think it will be back sometime in the future after more time has passed and perhaps emulation improves on a future console.

HOW HARD IS IT MS??????? These are the only non-bc xbox titles I keep in my active rotation.

EDIT:

Oh, and Orta. God damnit.

can't say i'm disappointed. the prices were too steep. you could find the disc versions far cheaper for pretty much every one of them.

Hmm, are going to pull everything down, or are they just not going to add anymore titles?

Pulling everything down from Live would make no sense what so ever. But I would gather the QA crew for new titles might be an overhead MS has no taste for.

At least 360 owners that bought their console after year 1 still have BC ;)
For not nearly enough games. I still have copies of 007:EoN and The Warriors that I never got to play since they never supported them. Bastards.

No Jet Set Radio Future, Super Monkey Ball Deluxe or Panzer Dragoon? Not impressed.

Must just be that nobody buys the damn things.

The fuck? Aren't the Xbox Originals basically just iso files? Aside from liscencing fees, there should be just about no cost to putting them up.

If Microsoft would:
  1. Price the games at a more reasonable $10.
  2. Price their 120GB hard drive something reasonable.
They'd probably do a lot better.
