For a console you can of course use lower clocks and less voltage.
You could also think about cutting the L3$ like AMD did with Bulldozer.
For me the question is kinda open.
There was the news from Computerbase that AMD hinted that Semi-Custom-Designs with Zen will not arrive before 2018 so Zen might be indeed not going into the Scorpio.
I think it will be a 4 core 8 thread Zen if they go with a Zen. The 8 core 16 thread zen is just a pipe dream in a APU. I honestly wish they would ditch the APU for this revision so they can really push the limits.
I believe the comment was "8 CPU cores", was it not?
I wonder if it's possible they have a 4 core Jaguar for the OS along with a 4 core Zen (or other) dedicated to games. That would save a bit of die space at least. I don't know if it would be viable or worth messing about like that though.
My moneys still on Jaguar for now though as I think they might have let it slip by now if they had a better CPU than the Neo.

Because it probably costs more for AMD to keep manufacturing old ass, inefficient, outdated designs? It's cheaper to mass manufacture current tech than old one.Why not? Their options are limited to what AMD has to offer anyway.

@XboxP3: @BeastFireTimdog I'll miss Gamescom but @aarongreenberg will be there. We will have things to say this Fall, we'll find the right times
@XboxP3: @ScorpioP3 I want to visit some fans I haven't visited before and we have some things to say before end of 2016 so we'll find the times.
They probably have something they want to say/show a week before the Pro launches.Phil tweeted that they have more to say in the Fall. Might not be Scorpio related but my guess they were waiting to see what Sony would say about Neo.
In regards to another conference this year
They probably have something they want to say/show a week before the Pro launches.
I don't know, whatever it is has to be unconventional, outside of the box thinking. Saying they got this beast machine that pwns the Pro won't do jack. That make sense, just wonder how big it is.
Personally i think media briefing seems too much, maybe they can think about make a recorded show just like Nintendo Direct.
Forgive me if this is a stupid question, but what gpus are available that can match or surpass the 6 Tflops of Scorpio?
The RX 480 does 5.5 TF at stock 1200 MHz or so, which apparently is too high of a clock for consoles. It will probably be the successor/revision of the RX 480 that costs similarly but does 6 TF at a lower clock.Correct me if I'm wrong but I think the RX 480 can do 5.8TF

Yea, RX 480 v2 (or RX 570/580) will probably be around a 1060.So theoretically a 1070 or 1080 should surpass that?
Expectations for the Scorpio with more than a Puma Cpu at this point don't have much basis. Of course it would be great to be proven wrong, but one should really consider the facts here. There is no alternative for a console APU with that class of GPU.
The comment about BC and forward compatible makes me thing Xbox is going to go to every 2 year or every 3 year hardware refreshes. And kind of cut out generations possibly.
Gonna be interesting if they do that. That way they kind of merge further with Windows and PC as a gaming platform, as they've started to try to do a lot more lately.
Project Scorpio being the real beginning for this, possibly?
So theoretically a 1070 or 1080 should surpass that?

You don't need Zen to do VR. MS can advertise whatever but there is nothing they can do if there is no Zen chip suitable for a 6TF APU.They do because of the VR support. There is no 3rd party VR solution and eco system that would work on a CAT CPU. Now if MS drops the VR from its PR then I will take that as they can't make the Zen work.
It would be 8 virtual cores which if a Zen would be more than enough.

I'm excited for Witcher 3 by far.I see a lot of developers supporting the PS4 Pro this fall (Titanfall2, BF1 etc)
I would be very dissapointed to NOT see HDR support for these game when played on Xbox One S. Theres NO reason not to include HDR support for games that gets HDR Support on PS4 versions.
I have got a question What is stopping the Xbox Scorpio from having all the features of a PC with a walled garden store front? Could the Scorpio, in theory, be universally backwards compatible with all games released on pc, have the ability to enable modding and the ability to run games at various graphical settings?
So in other words why cant the Scorpio or even the bone be a steambox minus steam.
Forgive me if this is a stupid question, but what gpus are available that can match or surpass the 6 Tflops of Scorpio?
I agree, if they address all the points that seemed to have disappointed fans with Pro, they would have a win there.I don't know, whatever it is has to be unconventional, outside of the box thinking. Saying they got this beast machine that pwns the Pro won't do jack.
Maybe they will just have a list with things that fans have been dissapointed about the Pro and say how they will fix it. Reiterate developers will have the choice to offer 4K with medium graphics or 1080p with ultra, talk about how they're working with developers to release patches for all the popular games, maybe bring OG Xbox back compat, drop more Xbox 360 titles...etc.
Oh actually they will probably talk about VR support, Oculus/Vive support, show Fallout 4 VR, Forza Motorsport 7 maybe?
Either way, whatever it is has to be more unexpected, they can't just make it a dick measuring contest for specs.
Edit: Holy shit maybe tease Halo 3 Anniversary.
WITH VR SUPPORT TOO. FUCKING HALO VR all over my face.

Only VRHas it been said if they'll make Scorpio exclusive games or not?
Has it been said if they'll make Scorpio exclusive games or not?
Microsoft said no except something like VR.
I think you'll see the same games but Scorpio might have a better feature aside from eye candy, for example. Battlefield 64 vs 64 players on Scorpio but only 32 vs 32 on Xbox One. That's how they'll push the extra power beyond graphics without making completely exclusive games. I just see can't see them building Scorpio and not doing more with games. They'll make different aspects better to varying degrees.
The underlying message is all games and peripherals will carry across. Eventually developers will opt to makes games for the higher end only. Most likely there will be a 2 year silent mandate to reflect this. That won't happen if they don't want to split their user base (online multiplayer advantages).

Virtual cores are also not the solution. Don't be ridiculous. If we are putting this much weight on MS touting VR the same should be done on 8 core.
What about VR games tho?I dont know what's hard to understand about that.
Scorpio won't have an exclusive game, but it will have exclusive graphics over Xbox one.
Just like Pc, Medium, high and ultra.
.Halo 6 will look mind blowing on Scorpio, it will Ok on Xbox one. Same game, different graphic setting.
You dont hear developers' making exclusives for one graphic card right? It takes advantage of all graphic cards.
It was a good idea because people looking for actual 4K games know that Scorpio will actually be able to deliver that unlike the PS4 Pro (with a couple exceptions like TLOU).Not sure if announcing Scorpio so early was a good move. Sony and Microsoft have just updated their consoles within a couple of months of each other. Xbox One S is the same as the original albeit with HDR but PS4 Pro is a more considerable upgrade and gets its foot in the 4K door.

Gives people the choice to hold off on PS4Pro for a short while with the knowlegde of something better is confirmed to be released next year. Pretty much anything that runs in 1080P on XB1 should be able to push 4K on Scorpio, with some potential upgrades along the way. Personally I'd rather see 1080P pushed to the limits because I don't own a 4k TV but I suspect there will be quite a few native 4K titles on Scorpio. They probably won't match PC max settings at 4k, but it should deliver native 4k regardless. Will it? I'm interested in Scorpio for everything but 4K. I kinda doubt it can do reliable 4K when PCs right now that are more powerful than what Scorpio will be, struggle.
