Xbox to Windows 10 Streaming Live Now in Preview

If you have a modern network setup and are all wired up you should only see a frame or two of lag with most lan video streaming methods.

Man I really want to try this but waiting for windows 10 final, my pc already has enough issues updating win8 as it is.

This isn't working for me. It says "connected" and is apparently streaming but nothing happens.

edit: fixed it, you need to update the Xbox app.

You need to check a game stream box in your Xbox One in the settings menu. I forget which submenu it was in, but it was in a (beta) quoted feature.

Also, it helps that the Xbox One is already powered on at the dashscreen.

Cheers dude, have that checked but I don't seem to be getting an option to stream from the xbox app. Is there a particular version of the app you need to be on? Currently on 3.3.5006.00000

Close everything and open the Windows 10 Store app to update to the latest version (5.6).

The stream icon in the app is second to the last icon on the left in the app.

It crashes every time I start it up. I see the Xbox One dash but I can't control it with my 360 pad.

Not sure what the issue is. Maybe it's due to the fact that my display is 1440p?

This may have been brought up in the past but I just thought of something. Microsoft doesn't allow streaming to the Twitch app of games that have not been released yet. Gears beta can't be streamed in the app nor can other NDA games that people have broken the agreement for by leaking screenshots.

What is to stop someone from using this streaming feature and then using a program like FFsplit to capture/stream the content to Twitch or whatever stream on their own?

I know the old saying, "if there's a will, there's a way" but I was curious if there are more precautions built in like certain games can't be streamed.

Tried this out for the first time right now playing Killer Instinct to test it out. Streaming works but there's some noticeable lag and the image quality is serviceable on High but not spectacular. Game is very playable though but certainly not great enough to go online. I don't have my Xbox One in the same room as my PC. It's currently hooked up in my garage with a powerline adapter plugged in there to give it internet access.

One thing I have noticed is that the Xbox Home button doesn't work while streaming.

Don't install W10 preview just to try it, don't install W10 preview just to try it, don't install W10 preview just to try it, don't install W10 preview just to try it. - Caayn hums to himself.
No, install it because it's AWESOME all round.

Have no idea what its game compatibility is like right now tho, only have it on my laptop.

Report the bug, good catch

Going to wait till it release officially. My GPU drivers for my desktop aren't supported under Windows 10 and my Surface Pro 3 is currently a key component that I can't afford to loose or have not working right now.

But it's tempting ;)

Just spent a while trying it, and I'm really impressed. Visually, it's a fair amount better than how Game DVR clips look, and with very little input lag (esp. on 30fps games).

I tried Sunset Overdrive, Elder Scrolls Online, and Halo MCC.

All of them worked well and were playable, which is a great sign. SO and TESO could easily be played the entire way through streamed if you wanted to. Halo was certainly playable and I think you'd be fine doing the campaign, but unless you were playing casual custom games with friends I don't think you'd want to play multiplayer, because it's too reliant on quick reflexes.

It was using about 12mbps of bandwidth on the most complex scenes, and latency was only slightly noticeable on Halo, and essentially unnoticeable elsewhere. I have my PC and Xbox connected together via a gigabit switch, and the controller connected directly to the Xbox and not via the PC, but I don't know if that would make any difference. Having wired networking will have made a difference though, I'm sure.

I won't end up using streaming, because my PC and Xbox are in the same room and connected to the same TV so there's simply no reason to. But if I had a laptop (or Surface, etc) I'd certainly put this to use quite a bit.

Damn. I really want to get this to work. No luck so far. Just stalls once the Xbox One menu comes up.

It connects and just hangs. I have to restart my computer every time.

That shouldn't be a problem, Surface Pro 3 runs at 2160x1440 and I've seen a lot of people playing with it.

Do you get an error message? Maybe also submit this as an issue through the feedback app.

There was no error message. I set windows to display at 1080p and it worked. I will submit the issue through the app.

Works a lot better than PS4 streaming considering that I am able to utilized my 5ghz connection for this.

I played a couple of games of Halo: MCC and enjoyed myself. There is definitely a bit of lag but I found it playable and racked up a decent amount of kills. Including a few melee kills, which are all about timing.

So I have a question about this. When you wake up the Xbox from your PC to play, is there a way to stop the Xbox from turning on the audio receiver and TV?

I could see a potential issue if someone else is using the TV but not the Xbox and you boot up the Xbox and it turns off the TV.

...wonder if this would work with my surface 3 atom?

Should work well.

Did 1920x1080 on an Intel Pentium (Core 2 with 1 MB of cache). No hiccups.

Atom X7 benchmarks are better than that. Also, you might be able to take advantage of GameDVR.

Wouldn't surprise me if Microsoft updated the Xbox app on smartphones and tablets to take advantage of streaming, so you can use your iOS, Android, or Windows Phone device.

Are people meaning to say megabits as I thought it would be megabytes?

8 bits = 1 byte

Divide the Mbps number by 8 for Megabytes.

WHY Would you want to do this? The reverse i would understand for comfy coach gaming

Comfy bed gaming.

Not everyone has a TV in the bedroom.

...wonder if this would work with my surface 3 atom?

Definitely. My Dell Venue 8 Pro has worse hardware than Surface 3 atom and works brilliantly. No hiccups at all.

Anyone try this on an HP Stream 7 yet?

Likewise to the above, Stream 7 has very similar hardware to the Dell V8P, so it should work fine.

If you know how to set up a VPN, both.

Don't even need to set up a VPN, the Xbox app on Windows 10 let's you input an IP address. So if you know the external IP address of your console and have the appropriate ports opened (or have it in a DMZ), you can play over the Internet. Tried it yesterday. I wouldn't go crazy with a fighting game or FPS online or what have you, but it's definitely playable in my testing.

VPN works, too, but in my testing with a free solution it added much more latency/lag to the controls. Pretty unplayable.

Exactly ;)

Also, iDevice functionality would be mostly useless, unless you're close enough to your main console that you can still use the controller wirelessly, as they don't have USB ports to connect a Xbox controller! I'm thinking this stays a Windows 10 desktop/laptop/tablet feature.

I think in the future when newer devices use USB-C including smartphones, the move will make sense.

No more proprietary ports among devices would be a win for everyone.

Mine runs like shit. PC and Xbox One are super close to each other too. Food setup on my part. Like half or 1 sec delay

I'm assuming due to your talk of distances that you're doing it wirelessly on your PC and Xbox? In which case it wouldn't matter anyway - there isn't a direct wireless connection between your PC and Xbox, connections either way go to your wireless access point first.

Wireless generally isn't going to provide an optimal experience for something like this (i.e. real time streaming), there are too many variables that can be difficult to change.

I finally managed to get this working yesterday after installing the Windows 10 preview. I can say it works flawlessly. Played a match of FIFA 15 and there is virtually no lag noticable. The streaming quality is defo not 1080p though and FIFA didn't maintain its 60FPS performance on console, but I was surprised it worked that well. Hoping to see some improvements to quality and FPS in the future but this is a great start.

Probably a stupid question but I couldn't find a better place to ask: since you can use the Xbox app features even on steam games, does anyone know if Steam games will be visible to Xbox players while running on the Xbox app?

Wooo wait, are you telling me it work like PS4 displaying on PS Vita? So i could leave the xbox in one room, but play it on my pc steaming?

Just tried it on my crappy internet with a wireless G router.
Input delay was maybe 300ms with some lag spikes.
I expected much worse, I was able to play Gears online but I couldn't get a single kill so it really wasn't playable.
I can see this being really smooth on a proper setup.
The screen shots I took looked excellent as well.
