XBSX2 is a new PlayStation 2 emulator developed exclusively for Xbox Consoles via developer mode. It is a fork of PCSX2 and has a ton of enhancements and performance improvements. If you're a fan of the PlayStation 2, then you need to check out the XBSX2 PlayStation 2 emulator.

Hmm, can we play our discs games via the drive (if XSX) or we need to find roms or disc images (not sure which term is more appropriate)?

sadly you'll need to either get the ISO from somewhere or dump it on a PC first.

I wonder tho if it will some day be possible to add disc reading capabilities to this or if Microsoft prevents this somehow

Yes but it's Dev mode only, which is fine but I don't want to always be in Dev mode so other options are great.

Oh dev mode only puts a damper. I know its easy enough to access but I'd much prefer something in retail mode for ease and convenience, if nothing else.

Damn, just tried this now. You can get playable Killzone up to 4k finally (with no audio issues though some momentary drops in frames) , same with Jak and Daxter.

Xbox Series S|X in general has just been pretty incredible for emulation. Playing NES/SNES/DS/PSP/Master System/Genesis/Saturn/Dreamcast/PS1/PS2/Gamecube/Wii/Xbox/Xbox 360/Xbox One/Xbox Series S|X games all from one console has been amazing.

No retail version?

go into that thread, in the first post is a big download button. click that, join the discord server on the site it links to.

gamr13 uploads XBSX2 as a retail mode version every week, they sometimes get taken down fast so as soon as it's available download and launch the Emulator at least once.

this is currently the only method that works because some asshole apparently kept reporting more publicly visible links to it

Thanks yeah I'm having a look. Quite sad that someone reports this. PS2 is old now so it makes no difference.

I think someone is just being a dick without much motivation... or maybe it's the dev of AetherSX2 who is very much against retail mode uploads, and might be pissed now that someone stole his show with not only a version that this new dev has no issue being uploaded, but also is superior lol

yeah :/

I've always read that emulation is CPU bound so the S does just as well as the X as they have practically the same CPU.
As MVG said in the video, you might run into performance issues if you run some games at 4k on SS and you'd need the SX for that. But run them at 1080p or 1440p and you should be ok. Honestly that's still great.

Oh my bad it is retail, the naming of these things always confuses me. I've been doing a Persona 3 play through so haven't wanted to mess with any updates.

Is it easy/feasible to insert cheats into the emulators on Xbox ? I would like to play FES as well but preferably with a lot of cheats to make the experience easier lol

Dude what the fuck!? How do you get this? Do you download the emulator onto a flashdrive and upload it to the Xbox? Or just use the Xbox's server browser? I don't have an xbox that's why I'm asking.

The sweet thing is that you can change between software and hardware renderer on the go. So if a game has shitty menus, switch to software until you get in-game and then switch back to hardware renderer. It's a very competent software and honestly less painful than emulating on PC.

You get the emulator via link that takes you directly to Xbox store where you can download the app on the console.

If only Microsoft could offer this as a retail app (no need for dev mode)
Works fine in retail.

The SS is a fantastic little box of tricks, despite what some wankers say.....

Since this is a no-piracy forum, I'd recommend dumping your own PS2 discs.
Yeah, that is what I might have to do if I consider doing this.

Hopefully! It would be nice.

I would like to have a way to wirelessly use my PS5 controller on my PS2 super slim. All my old PS2 controllers are dead or wonky.
Guess I should look into Emulation eventually.

just downloaded it but how to i get the bios on there then? i'll get the bios and games my own way of course but is there a video showing how to put all that stuff on the xbox?

you should set up a USB drive and go from there.
you can have your BIOS files, games, all your memory cards and savestates on the USB drive.

this makes things easy to transfer back and forth. you can run everything internally by using Durango FTP and sending it over to the internal storage but that's suboptimal as there's a limit on storage for copied over data.

in order to get XBSX2 running you will need basically the folder structure of PCSX2... you copy that onto a USB drive and connect it to your Xbox.

then in the settings menu of XBSX2 you change each of the folders to the folders you have on your USB drive.

From how much you've used of both, which do you think has been better between the two emulators ?

XBSX2 is based on the newest PCSX2 PC version, so it's basically almost 100% on par with that. of course on a powerful PC you will have better CPU performance and can run more games at better speeds, especially if you try using 60fps hacks or if you need to run in Software mode

if you are talking about AetherSX2 on Xbox, the XBSX2 is vastly superior from the last version of AetherSX2 I used since AetherSX2 was based on an older version of PCSX2

thanks, i did set up retroarch for ps2 games all the way back in dec 2020 and even posted a guide on here but the app got removed from my console and never ended up re doing it so more interested in this one.

is there a video out there showing like which folders go where and what to rename them? and then showing me what to do on the XBSX2 settings? not so good at this stuff, surprised i even managed to get it working before lol :messenger_grinning_smiling:

all I can find online is people using FTP to send everything onto the Xbox.

if you want to do it through USB I can't find a video for that weirdly.

but if you had it running in Retroarch you did have a PCSX2 folder there right? you need exactly that for XBSX2, and then in the options theres a tab where all your folders are set up, all you gotta do there is change them to the folders on your USB.

I might make a small tutorial later since it's really weird to me noone did one already, usually these setups are all over the place soon after something like this comes out.
