I'm not even saying they are impressive or that they should impress you. There's a difference in saying they're not impressive and it must have been a 3DS game.
Not really. If it spent two years in development as a 3DS game and then made the switch, the artstyle choices made on account of the power of the 3DS would still be apparent. And that was my first impression of the game.

It certainly doesn't look like the XCX engine.

Heh, it's like Monolith Soft is behind the curve and slowly catching up to current trends. They ditched the drab and brown "Next Gen Filter" that so many early PS3 and Xbox 360 games adopted and have moved on to the bright and colorful later years of PS3 and Xbox 360 games.
Or maybe they just thought that it fitted the sci-fi atmosphere of their game? I mean, Xenoblade Chronicles was a incredible colorful game to the point that people got shook when they revealed Primordia and Noctilum.

This game needs British VA. If it's stock American anime VA, I won't be able to enjoy this game. I can't stand stock American anime VA. I despise it.

I wish they would have clarified whether it's NoE/SIDE UK or NoA/Cup of Tea because it's just gonna worry me. I don't fucking want a shitty Tales Of dub like in XCX - I absolutely hate the style and performance of stock American anime VAs.

Surprised it took you 11 pages to show up, Skypunch. Are you going to lecture everyone about how British actors are better than all other actors?

I'm not lecturing anybody. I simply need British VA because I 100% cannot stand stock, by-the-numbers American anime VA.

At least we are all spared the lecture this time :p. I'm just messing with you, but I really don't understand your obsession with having British VA. It was great in Xenoblade Chronicles, but there is plenty of great VA talent in America.

So If I was interested in going back and playing the original Xenoblade on my Wii via VC

-can I use my Wii U gamepad or pro controller or do I need to buy separate accessories?

-has the game aged well enough where the graphics won't be horrible on a 60 inch plasm?

Thanks

Well, I don't understand your obsession with American anime VA.

Anyway, it's just been pointed out to me that Xenoblade 2 is probably being dubbed in British because the trailer uses the words 'any more' instead of 'anymore'. The former being British English. If only you could see the smile on my face right now.

I don't have one...? As long as the VA is decent I'm happy

No, but people acting like this was a 3DS game or that Switch isn't "capable" of realistic graphics like Xenoblade Chronicles X does.

As I said, I get the concerns about power but statements like those seem like hyperbole to me.

Edit: also in a previous post you stated that Zelda doesn't look better when we know from Digital Foundry that it does look and run better (at least from the e3 Wii U build). That seems like hyperbole or misinformation to me.

Actually I think you've swayed me on this point - we know the Switch is more powerful than Wii U. Which makes the chosen art style all the more disappointing to me. The first two Xenoblades each looked great considering the systems they ran on. So why the drastic change? A large part of the appeal of the series to me is the exploration and immersion. This art style kind of breaks that for me.

I think you should wait besides jumping to conclusions from a short reveal trailer.

So...the girl with the cat ears who is seen riding on the large cat is Nia?

Her concept art can be seen in the trailer.

People are complaining about the graphics of this and comparing it to a 3ds game? Have I entered bizarre world. Did the the Nintendium seep into your brains and cause delusions?

Sadly, you need a Wiimote and/or Wii Classic Controller. The motion controls and normal controls weren't replicated in the newer hardware.
Edit: apparently you can just use the Wii pad.

And... No, the game does not look as hot on a 60" HD screen. That's a problem for all Wii games.

It's still my favorite game of all time, and I still fully recommend it, but it's a Wii game and nothing short of an HD rerelease or Dolphin emulation can fix that.

... It's still the best JRPG experience I've had since FF9.

It's a digital download release of a Wii game that supported the Classic Controller Pro. That means that yes, you can control the entire game with the Gamepad, and Off Screen too. No additional Wiimotes or accessories required.

Concerning the graphics - it's going to look pixelated. It runs at a widescreen, but SD resolution. But you'll quickly get over that if you stick it out.

Xenoblade Chronicles is one of my top 5 games of all time. I was late to the party, and also played it via Wii U, but it's one of the most memorable games I've ever played.

Edit for poster above;

That's not true. Games that supported the Classic Controller Pro can be entirely controlled with the Gamepad only. There's not many of them, but Xenoblade is one. This only works for the digital download from the eShop, not when run from disc.

I'm expecting this to be a huge segmented overworlds a la Xenoblade than one huge seamless world of X. Sky seems to play a large part of it. So maybe you're traveling on the flying town trying to get on the whale who's circling the giant tree somehow.

I think it looks amazing. Although I understand the less ambitious argument some people have I think we need to see more. Some of the enemies shown looked much larger than those of XCX, except that one story boss but it wasn't naturally occurring in the world and the ones seen in X2 look like they might even be larger.

As for the lack of mechs, we've seen mounts so far and who's to say there aren't different and varying mounts possibly even capable of flight? We just don't know yet, I'd definitely expect as much from monolith too.

The outside area's didn't look as interesting to me as the previous Xeno's yet, but it was an early quick trailer. I'm sure there will be more interesting area's that will beg to be explored.

I get not everyone likes the art style. Personally I'm kinda indifferent to it, though I wonder if it will age better. Still excited that we are getting a legit sequel (and I also loved Xeno X).

Are there mulitple teams at monolith or is this being made by the same team a xenoblade chronicles x? It just seems like such a short turn around from the last game that I am having a hard time believing this will be out in 2017.

They have 2 teams (1 is smaller though). I think 2017 is pretty ambitious and a lot of people expect a delay.

Man, I would fuck with this game but I just can't stand the moe ps2 faces. Like even xenoblade chronicles x's faces looked better

I think American VOs are great and fine, but I want Xenoblade to always have British English. Just feels correct. Should become a tradition, but it might already be too late for that.

This is what has me interested the most. Are we limited to floating airships, giant tree / forested area and the area first shown? I'm hoping we aren't forced to be so high up in the air. Given that old school diving mask, I hope there are some underwater environments or something this time around or beach areas or something. I hope they also incorporate cool artistic choices like what they did with Satorl Marsh as well (during night time).

Well, Tokyo has 2 teams, but team 2 has been on Project X Zone and tends to do smaller games.

Gotta remember XCX first came out late April 2015 and, though I'm going off an impression I got from interviews, that the game was largely done bar QA/bug fixes by holiday 2014. So, to me at least, it's likely this game entered some form of pre-production before XCX launched, regardless.

Even if they didn't start any work on it until after XCX launched, however, if we assume a November 2017 release for XC2 it gives them at least 2.5 years between the projects, which is still a quick turn around but not impossible.

That being said, I absolutely expect a delay at this moment.

OK.

I dislike that design already, and she's probably going to be another prominent character? All misses so far.

this part really reminded me of the old PS ff cutscenes.

You know that's subjective right?
I personality much prefer good old school character design + bad models than generic modern/moe design + average models too, even if they are both "anime".
My feelings exactly. This

xenoblade-chronicles-x-good-face.jpg

is preferable to

Its completely generic and uninspired, flat, featureless and doll like. You might as well draw some big googly eyes, a period for a nose, and a small straight line for a mouth. Trash.

I don't like Lao's design, it's boring and generic. I like the second more, even if it is also a bit generic.

I agree. I don't get why there was a sudden change with the art style of the series. Though I do think that this is slightly better than X's style. I'd rather have the original game's design. You can barely see the characters dot of a nose in some screens so it looks like you're seeing only a face lacking a nose. Also is there a reason why they're now doing cell shading? I don't remember them using that in X.

Looking forward to seeing how they animate the faces.

They animated so well during cutscenes in Chronicles then in X they became lifeless.

The main character is dressed like a plucky kid sidekick to the badass older main character. Hell, he's giving me serious Karol (ToV) vibes.

I had a similar thought. Karol is a nice character but I don't think he would have worked as the main character. Yuri fulfilled that role very well. I would have preferred a cooler looking protagonist but I'm kind of over it now. I just want to see more of the game at this point.

Is this suppose to be a joke post? Why would you compare the designs of a grown man to a young girl? Why not use Lin? Because she would invalidate your point?

There are an equal amount of haters and people who blindly protect anime on GAF.

no the fuck there isn't.

I wish people would stop acting like the groups of "haters" and "fanboys" are equal as a justification for their poor discourse. Most anime fans can admit that there are legitimate flaws with the medium...that doesn't take away from the good. Whereas many people seem incapable of doing the same and thus everything is trash. I am tired of seeing "anime" being used a description ; its fucking lazy and makes you sound like an idiot.

I am more than fine with certain aesthetics not being your cup of tea. I too think the MC looks off (where is the boys nose man) but FFS, we have seen like 30 seconds of this game and people are already shitting on it because of their hate boners for "anime".

This looks like a supporting party member in a Mass Effect game. Token Asian dude who you can bond with, probably has a mysterious past as an ex-space Yakuza, bitter over how he fell out with his younger brother and made him join a rival gang or something. Will never win "best party member" awards from anyone, and might get picked for the party because he does a lot of good damage. Otherwise uninspired design.

This looks like a token "main" heroine in an anime based on a popular Light Novel with designs from an illustrator who has a background in porn. She is probably a fish out of water given how she isn't really human, but takes a liking to the main character immediately. He protects her when other party members warn him about how she will bring trouble, but in the end she will sacrifice herself to save everyone. Fans will fight tooth and nail with each other to vote her or the other heroine competing for the hero's heart as "best girl" in various pointless internet awards.

I think the graphics are fine, but it's that art direction that I cannot stand personally.
