Xenoblade Chronicles - WiiU - tomorrow 4/28/16

Any benefits technically speaking from picking this up vs. playing the actual disk?
Gamepad support, I guess.

And I going to throw the wild guess that the game load times are improved since that was a thing if you installed Xenoblade Chronicles in a HDD in the Wii using homebrew

Glad I passed on the 3ds version. I have XCX but haven't played it yet. Does the order I play these two games matter? I know the plot is completely different.
Nothing really important, only a handfull of references to the original but the game is also filled of references to Xenogears and Xenosaga too.

Im down. I can support this. I mean why not. It will be nice to have on a HD and play with the gamepad.

Honestly NOA needs to fast track all this shit from now until March 2017. They don't have anything else.

I mean bear with me here, it is possible, by design or dumb luck they saw this year coming and started banking releases like this so that they had something to sell us. I know its a tinfoil hat, but they could at least placate their small base with a lot of VC releases and digital stuff from other regions that haven't hit the states.

Finally! I knew it would arrive on NA eShop at some point! Thank God I never opened my Wii copy.

Yet, I am out of space on my Wii U. :( Need to do some deleting and rearranging.

Bought a 2Tb external HD for $90 last year and never looked back. So worth it, was super tired of having to uninstall and reinstalling games :P

Even if I bought this twice, I'll buy it for the third time just for the off-tv play. Gonna be fun playing this for the 5th time.

That's been the case for other Wii games on the eShop, especially Metroid Prime Trilogy, which had a tremendous advantage versus the disc release.

I will proudly wear that tinfoil hat!
Trauma Team on EU VC when?? Give Mother 3 for Christmas!

Hooray! Only my HDD failed last night:

I just got an error on my WiiU that the external HDD is not receiving power and that the power supply is not connected (but it is). I've used this Seagate Pro connected by a Y cable for years, it just happened today, it's been very reliable. When I turn on the WiiU all my digital games are all loaded on the Home Menu but after about five minutes, I got the error screen that the power supply is disconnected.

.... Would purchasing a new Y Cable fix the problem, since it seems to be "lacking a power supply" or does this error mean the HDD itself is screwed?

What are my options?

Any reason to play the 3DS version over this original release?
Portability.

The 3DS is a very straightforward port that run incredible well except some slowdown in some areas that the Wii original also had trouble.

Granted, I only played that version until the Eryuth Sea sea but the rest of the areas in the game are not as taxing as Makna Forest.

The n3DS runs a bit smoother and you can unlock character and enemy models along with music tracks (the game can even work as a music player in standby mode), but the smaller resolution does make things a bit harder to read, as does the lowered quality of the textures. Also, if it's your thing, the Wii version also includes the Japanese VA track, which did not make it over to the n3DS version outside of Japan.

Any callbacks to Xenogears and/or Xenosaga.

Worth it to finish those games fire if I'm already in the middle of both?

3D Model Viewer

Xenoblade has NOTHING to do with those games... and it's better than those games lol. Arguably. Most people agree it's the best of the series, I mean you have some die heard Xenogears fans.

It's a really good JRPG on its own without relation to any other game in a series. You should buy it if you enjoy the genre. It has a cool and "easy" (relative to Xenogears) follow story with some zany anime plot lines that keep you engaged throughout the game.

Oh thank god, I didn't want to pony up for a N3DS just for this or pay out the nose for a probably fake version.

uh

anyone with any knowledge of how the Wii verifies discs knows that aint possible. And anyhow, if you guys really wanted it on the Wii right now the european version is readily available for import at a reasonable price, and the Wii is region free with a very simple SD card based hack.

Wait I can play this and metroid prime trilogy on my gamepad controller???

Metroid Prime Trilogy is a NO - since that game requires Wii Remote and Nunchuck. Technically you can point your Wii remote at your Gamepad and use that as a screen for "Off-TV play".

This game is YES - since you can use Classic Controller... the Gamepad just acts as a classic controller.

Really hoping The Last Story gets a digital release. I wish I hadn't sold it.

I might bite (again). I didn't get too far. I got XCX for Christmas but there are a number of titles I want to get through before I dedicate time to it.

The fight with

actually runs better on the N3DS version

Holy shit. So the game pad works if I just wanted to play it on the tablet?! In my veins for the double dip!

yeeeah The Last Story was a pretty good game. I don't know if I'd replay it - but it'd be a good game for others to get a chance to enjoy.

Especially since there are pretty slim pickings for WiiU between now and forever lol

Oh man... I'm almost tempted to double dip for this game (purchased the 3D version along with my N3DSXL last year) but I don't want to play through the first 20 hours again. Bigger screen though... argghgh maybe later this year when all the incoming 3DS RPG goodness dies down.

Xenoblade 3D is the superior version then. That fight is kind of a mess in the Wii ver. even with the game installed on a HDD.

Yeah, any Wii games that uses the Wii Classic Controller support can be played directly off the Gamepad.

I know Sin & Punishment 2 does it (why would you do that lol) and maybe a few others. This is going to be one.

Yeah, it's a pretty sweet deal.

Yeah, I should look into that. What brand/kind did you get exactly, if I may ask? :)

Seagate. I don't have a lot of experience with Ext. HD's but it has been giving me zero issues so I'm satisfied. Nintendo has a list of supported HD's on their support website, but for the most part just stick to self powering.

This one is better than the new one right?

Arguably. It has better story and characters at the very least. There's a lot of "depth" to the combat in XC, but it's not a complete rabbit hole like it is in X.

I think the exploration, graphics, music, and combat system are all better in X. Plus you can fly around the world in a robot.

... I love them both for different reasons. Honestly they aren't that much related outside the combat system. The worst thing that X had going for it was having the Xenoblade name attached to it.

Never played Xenoblade, but this is great news. Im buying a Wii U this Friday, since its my bday on Friday. This will be a great pickup, especially since I won't have to spend $60.

Nice! Happy Birthday! If you love JRPGs you won't regret a great purchase for $20!

Story-wise, yes. Gameplay is somewhat debatable. While XCX is miles better in terms of gameplay, XC is still solid.

I don't know about that - the original XC's gameplay does some things better IMO like equipment (getting new weapons is much more interesting because they're character-specific) and general difficulty balance (since it's much more linear than the sequel).

Already own the disk, but I'm definitely double-dipping for Wii U gamepad play.
