It's different, both are good games.
Considering the exaggerated GAF hyperboles with no middle ground and making statements in the absolutes. Xenoblade X wasn't ever a bad game, as some would lead you to believe.
Neither game is flawless. Some may find issues with X's music, yet a lot of the complaints towards the original game was more less about tons of pointless side quests with minimal plot outside the main story.
The original Xenoblade is an excellent game. Both the original and X are worthwhile playing and have something to offer on their own merits.

For people in other regions, does the game look better on the gamepad? Since the image is shrunk down does that eliminate most of the jaggies?

Awesome. Maybe I'll trade in my physical copy. I think the gamepad is the one thing that can get me through the game; it's great, but it's definitely a game I feel I'll progress through more if I'm doing other things.

Because Nintendo has a history with the WiiU so far of up-pricing certain high-demand rare games above the standard price-range on the eShop.
Like, for example, Earthbound is $10 when IIRC the standard SNES VC price is $8

I just checked the eShop and I'm not seeing it. Tried searching for it and also checking the complete list of Wii VC releases. No Xenoblade.
If it's going to be a midnight release it'll show up at 9 pm Pacific, midnight Eastern. If it's a daytime release it'll be tomorrow morning at 9 am Pacific, noon Eastern.

Oh god, I may triple dip for Off-TV play. I should probably finish my run on the 3DS version though lol. I love this game to bits. Definitely one of the best games on the Wii.

Just wanting to pick this up: Yes you can, no idea of how the US Nintendo website is structured though. In EU you just find the game on the official Nintendo page and if there is an eShop version of it, you should have an option to buy a code and immediately redeem it. If your Wii U is set to auto-download content (i.e. updates) it will start downloading once it connects to the internet (I think it checks back every 15min or so).

To be fair, Japan still doesn't have it, and they've hardly gotten ANY Wii games on Wii U.
They're not getting that sweet humble bundle deal either.
Nintendo fans in Japan get screwed over plenty as well.

How did the Xenoblades do in Japan? It felt like Xenosaga got way more attention and merchandise compared to the Blades.
Eh, I wouldn't worry too much. XC is still an amazing game, just don't expect to be as tempted to drop everything to explore that mountain in the horizon.

Xenosaga did much better but the series was in sharp decline game after game.
Also the main reason for the merchandise is becoming of the robotic anime lady who shows a little skin. All the physical merchandise is essentially her or T-Elos who is her with a different skin and her color. You're lucky to find a blind box figure of Shion and Momo.
They're still releasing merchandise to this day. It helps that there were multiple upgrades to Kos-Mos over the series.
I'm actually about to buy a figure with the Zohar as a base.

I'm quite fond of Xenoblade's dub, it was really solid! Melia was fantastic.

It looks better when playing on the Gamepad (less jaggies at native resolution). For many, being able to play on the Gamepad is reason enough.

XC is an amazing game but I cringe when people try to cite it for having amazing characters and story.
I have certain gripes with X, but if you can't appreciate what it offered as a completely new experience (ala Final Fantasy) and the gorgeous art direction and improved gameplay, you suck.
