Xenoblade Chronicles X: NA Special Edition announced.

That's pretty sweet.

Is this game any good? I didn't read TOO much about it when it launched in Japan but I kind of remember hearing it's a bit of a grindfest and really repetitive with tons of filler content? I'd kind of like to get it but if it's really boring I won't bother.

There's been somewhat of a mixed response, but overall impressions are still positive.

Well, it could have been worse. Sure, it could have had the steelbook too, but I'm glad I had the chance for it and it wasn't an exclusive to the store in new york.

I suppose that's something to be grateful for.

I would think a few years ago if Club Nintendo was still an option, this could be a Club Nintendo Exclusive upgrade or something after confirming you owned the game via registering it online.

As far as I'm aware that was the only means of getting the Smash 4 OST.

But yeah, at least this Collector's Edition isn't limited to a single store.

On a different subject, I wonder one of the reasons why the original Xenoblade didn't get a Wii U eShop release has something to do with the Gamestop exclusivity of the original physical release going by my Smash example, Smash for Wii U didn't take away sales from the 3DS version, so I don't see why an eShop release of the original Xenoblade wouldn't take way from the n3DS release either.

What was the last Nintendo game that got a CE/LE in America? I want to know.

That got a wide release? The Majora's Mask 3D LE that came with the Skull Kid figurine.

Before that, though? I think that technically Metroid Prime Trilogy counts, though you might see some people disagree with that one since it was intended to be the general release of the game.

Amazon does good packaging. I've never had anything damaged. From my own experience anyway.

I've never in the 6+ years of ordering shit on Amazon have had a damaged item due to poor packaging.

I've experienced poor packaging a handful of times, though percentage wise is probably less than 2% since I order literally everything from Amazon, from groceries to furniture to electronics.

And NoA skipped Bayonetta LE and the upcoming Fatal Frame.

I always wondered that in my years of buying LE, CE, and so forth that their worth is actually more expensive due to being a video game period. It's just quality hasn't really proven that to be right in the last couple gens. Sure we get figures, electronics, art books, soundtracks, etc, so it's easy to neglect their worth. I can't even remember if I've ever owned a LE Nintendo game period (since the 90's). I'm more into art, soundtracks, and lithographs, so this is right up my alley. I have high hopes being this is a Xeno series entry. Xenosaga was a big deal and that sorta ended flat IMO. I just hope they give us some good art because you could very well buy the game and then get the 256+ page art book somewhere (if they make one for this). Also, if you don't like it then you could always sell it down the road. Lord only knows how many they're going to make.

If you complain to amazon about anything being damaged they're usually pretty quick to take care of you.

-edit- I wonder how big the usb stick is. I'm willing to bet it's something really useless like 4 or 8gb

You had to pay extra for them in EU? They got the LE for that game.

Yeah, they had a weird tiered release where they got the regular copy of the game, the SE that had both games, and the LE that came in that spiffy packaging. Japan also had the same thing, minus the LE. The advantage was that it did come in a separate case, but you still had to pay more.

Honestly, I'd rather have the USB stick, so I'm fine with what we're getting in the states. I don't think anyone can go wrong with either setup, though.

Know what would have been cool? Instead of the songs on the usb, have the data packs on there, so you could play without waiting with better loading times.

But of course they would have to offer up a 16gb drive for that.

The price is fair for what you get IMO

I thought the data packs were 10gb total?
Also nintendo doesn't officially support usbs so that would never happen, although I would've liked if that option was available.

Eh...very very VERY barebones CE. Especially for $90. There are many CEs that include the entire soundtrack and art book gimmick while also adding a statue or something else to the mix for a similar price.

A gorgeous book of concept art with more than 100 pages

As said before, very common thing to include in most collector's editions. Nothing unique or something we haven't seen before. And not really something many people will care much about once they get it. Some MIGHT look inside it for a couple of minutes or so and go "hmm...interesting...oh hey that looks pretty cool..." Only to then slip it in a bookcase and never retrieve the book out again for a long while. That's pretty much concept art books in a nutshell IMO.

A unique USB drive modeled after the game’s “Lifehold Unit,” pre-loaded with a selection of 10 music tracks from the game’s memorable soundtrack

I give this a "fair rating". Sure it's again, not really a unique thing to add but USBs are welcomed if they have GBs in them. If it's something like 16GB then that's pretty cool I think. Coming with only "10" music tracks however is really bad. I hate when they do this. Either add the entire soundtrack or don't add it at all. And honestly, I would probably prefer the latter and take the USB without anything taking up space in it because let's be real here; the soundtrack of the game is going to be uploaded on YouTube soon after the game's release where people can just download or listen to for free. IMO, soundtracks in Collector's Editions are a waste of space and resources and can easily be replaced with something else cooler and more original. USB = Ok, 10 music tracks = *sign...*

A limited-edition matted 5x7 art card of a painting done for the game by illustrator Takashi Kojo

Not really much else to say about this one. I put this along side my thoughts on the concept art book, only this is just a card of one drawing and not really something that will look cool to hang up on a wall or wherever. I would rather they give us a poster or a wall scroll version of this. Now THAT would be cool and much more useful than this IMO.

This CE should really be $70, not $90. The CE doesn't have much to offer of interest other than MAYBE the USB drive. At least, that's IMO the only mildly interesting thing in it. I would rather they have taken out the art card and book and replaced it with something that catches the eye more. Especially when they are charging $90 for it.

But I digress. I'm still getting the game and I can't wait to play it since its been one of my most anticipated games of the year. It's just the CE is pretty bad truthfully.

Yes, their customer service is superb. The only bad thing was that a couple times they could only refund me instead of sending a replacement because they were limited edition games that have been sold out.

Preordered so hard. Give it all to me!

Even though the last one was by far the best of the trilogy. A shame most people gave up on it by 2, even i almost did.

Yeah, uh, no. It's that art book that has me willing to plunk down the extra money for this. I absolutely HATE collector's editions that have statues in them, because they end up in the trash...

Usually those CEs don't have an OST that fits on 4 discs and is valued at 30$, just like the artbooks included are usually some cheap 30 pages booklet.

$30 extra for an art book, a USB drive that's probably 2GB and max 4GB, and some card?

art book is over 100 pages, USB is Xenoblade-themed and has the digital soundtrack (would've been nice if this was the entire OST), art card is matted -- not some leaflet.

Oh man this is sexy. Its priced a little high but all the stuff is so cool I think its worth it. Plus its XENOBLADE CHRONICLES X. Its like, one of the coolest games to come out recently.

Would've been nice to release the whole soundtrack instead of just 10 tracks, but this is livable.

I never said anything about replacing it with statues, I said something else which could mean anything that would be IMO, more interesting than an art book/card. Like wall scrolls/posters, a unique little toy replica from the game itself, a handy bag you can carry with you and put an X amount of things in, etc.

I mean hey that's great if you like art books. I just think they aren't really that much of a deal to me because again, IMO, it's something you (not you specifically) really only look at once, then put it in a bookcase to almost never look inside it again. I don't personally see anything appealing to looking out some drawings for a few minutes or so and being charged a lot more money for it when it can be replaced with something cooler.

Which again, neither of those two things I really see much point of unless they added the entire soundtrack in that USB drive, or none at all. I don't really care either way because in the end, people will inevitably upload all of the game's soundtrack to YouTube.

My gripe with this is I can't see the justification in paying $90 for something like this. I'm glad they made one and NOA for bringing it over to the West (and threw us a bone for once :P), but this isn't what I would pay $90 for quite frankly. :/
