Xenoblade (Wii, Monolithsoft x Nintendo) Information Thread

Impressive footage, but I bet stuff like the cliff jumping will only be possible on a few select spots or during some special event. Still impressive though

That's some nice scope and scenarios. Given they size they look though, I hope they aren't making you backtrack (or that some instant transportation exists to help getting through such vast areas) and that there's something else than fighting to do on the lands so it doesn't become a chore. At least characters look like pretty fast runners :P

The 4 locations labeled in the trailer:
1. Kyojin's legs
2. Colony 9
3. Makuna Forest
4. Elto Sea

Who's the little party member around 1:26?

Also, for those impressed by the "liveliness" of the enemies not necessarily attacking you, I'd be wary of that. Frankly I'd imagine they just had it look like that so as not to interrupt the exploration footage, as I can't imagine why every single enemy ignores the party.
Riki:
Race: Nopon, Gender: Male, Age: ???, Height: 60cm. A hero of the Nopon merchant race who reside in the forests of the back area of the Kyojin part of the world. His words and movements are extremely childish, but it seems there's a different side to him.

In his quotes, he says says something like: "Hey friends, it's Riki, who was selected as this year's legendary hero." and "What's wrong with everyone. You're all acting strange. Totally strange! Maybe everyone is sad because they're hungry."
http://www.andriasang.com/e/blog/2010/04/30/xenoblade_site_update/

Maybe you're right about the enemies, it's possible that they didn't change much either though. There could be some aggressive enemies they didn't show while at the same time there could be more friendly monsters on the outside of the Kyojin god. I think it'd makes sense if there were more aggressive enemies in the dungeons and on the Kishin god.

So, nobody ripped the new music, yet? Great piece

Awesome!

I just feel bad for Aonuma he's fucked if he can't match this and The Last Story with Zelda Wii.

Haha, number of people saying that growing :D
I REALLY want to see how EAD responds to these games. Are they going to compete, or will Zelda Wii be something so different that the gorgeous landscapes of Xenoblades and TLS will be a non-factor? Exciting times ahead.

although the animation looks kinda bad but i loved how big the world id, very variant and pretty.

It would be nice if Zelda will have something similar to this:D

The animation was kinda wonky, but the rest of that was super impressive.

Way more excited now than I was before.

That was a great trailer. I love the sheer size of the environments we will be exploring.
There were a nice variety of creatures of various shapes and sizes, I like the worm popping out from the ground.

The cliff jumping had to be my favourite part. All we need now is a trailer to show off the battle system.

Wow. I had no interest in this game before but after this video I scrambled to Amazon to reserve a copy. Unfortunately no reserves up yet.

Yeah it is. It's under the title Monado for North america:

http://www.neogaf.com/amazon/ (<<<affiliate link) then search for Monado.

http://www.amazon.com/dp/B002IM1MYG/?tag=neogaf0e-20

If this shows up in your goldbox you'd best pre-order it then, because right now amazon has the price listed at 59.99 --- and it's sure to drop. But you'll still get a gold box discount of 5% off 59.99 when it drops, so you'd be savng a little more overall.

amazon.jp preorder (comes with a soundtrack cd)

WTF, that field intro looks amazing. What is this RPG and why have I not heard of it outside of GAF? These are the same people who made Xenogears and Xenosaga right? So unless there's a Shion thrown in there I can expect a JRPG with a good story right?

aren't they the same people who made Baten Kaitos 1 and 2?

No. A company is made up of people. The same company can make different games, which might not be by the same people.

true, but I guess that some people who worked on the BK franchise is working on this too right?

It's probably more akin to Soma Bringer than anything else. Great gameplay and a cohesive enough story to keep you interested.
Heh. It was the other way around for me. Soma Bringer's gameplay was decent at best, but the story and the interesting world made the game interesting.

I don't think that the Zelda team will respond to anything. They'll make their own stuff like they're always doing with only a minimum influence by other games.

Art-wise? Sure. In any other area... probably not.
Do we know which role Honne played during the development? I remember that (at least the early) artworks were drawn by him, but is that everything he did for Xenoblade or did he design all of the environments?

That guy is so talented when it comes to art, it would be a shame if didn't make use of that, actually.

Today - Action Adventure Zelda like games roundtable, special guest Eiji Aonuma

Koizumi: "I came up with the 3 day system for Majora's Mask and games haven't tried to go that route."

Ancel: "We can try a new way of storytelling and add more interesting characters to this type of game..."

Ueda: "How about grotesque monsters in a barren and gloomy world. A trusty companion, an interesting story the stuff of dreams really..."

Tsujimoto: "Yes and monsters and hunters, like Monster Hunter but more story driven or something."

Takahashi: "Those are quite interesting ideas friends, I really like the way the overworld in Xenoblade has turned out! Maybe Eiji can use that for Zelda?"

Sakaguchi: "I believe any sort of Action RPG or action adventure game should have cities full of life and interesting heart breaking stories!"

Kamiya: "Certainly, with Okami we tried to combine style with new types of quests and atmospheric music."

Ueda: "So Eiji, now that you've seen all the new games so far, you must be thrilled to show us your new Zelda game right?"

Eiji Aonuma: "Well, I've been thinking about this alot..."

Kamiya: "As long as your not adding trains!"

Aonuma: "So yes, when you press Z you'll lock on the target and you can swing 1:1 with sword because of the Motion Plus..."

Sakaguchi: "Continue!"

Aonuma: "And Link will visit a bunch of bland cities with NPC's he can't interact with..."

Koizumi: "...."

Aonuma: "And he'll continue to search for Triforce pieces in dungeons and beat Ganondorf at the end by reflecting his magic attack with your sword in 1:1!"

Sakaguchi: "So what's new about this formula?"

Aonuma: "Well the visuals obviously, we never recycled Zelda assets before but the textures from Twilight Princess seemed like a good fit... and then we added Balance Board support for Roll Goal."

Aonuma: "We had to cut camera control, such a shame really oh and the orchestrated music."

Takahashi: "..."

Aonuma: "and It'll be released in 2011."

Ueda: "So what about the vitality sensor, surely that is an important feature?"

Aonuma: "Sure is, when you go fishing you can see your heartbeat, and fishing is almost as tense as playing a Zelda game!"

Xenoblade has lower res textures.
The graphical difference between Xenoblade and MH3 is pretty big.

MH3 also has low res textures. They hide it by blurring it with excessive bloom. Check out the Dolphin screens and you'll see the texture quality's a lot worse than most emulated games.

Nintex, stop derailing threads with your fanfiction nonsense. If you do that one more time, I'm going to ban you. Seriously. It's fucking annoying.

No idea. He could be the art director, in fact it's very likely he is, but they have not revealed the rest of the staff yet.

Of course, I didnt mean it like that. Its just...Zelda-games are known for their overworlds (well, most, at least), and Xenoblade seems to have a damn good overworld. Sure, noone from EAD will look at Xenoblade and say "oh, we have to top that", but I wonder if they´ll be able to top it on their own...if that makes any sense, haha.

@duckroll: Dont be so serious, I like Nintex´ Nin-fanfic. :/

Edit: The composer for Xenoblade. Who is it?

I wouldn't order "Monado", I did that for Zack & Wiki when it was still Treasure Island Z. I forgot all about it and a year later Sports Island showed up. :lol

It seems that she is enjoying a lot violin recently. That lead instrument seems lifted straight out of Birth by Sleep.
Edit: Oh, my bad. We still don't know who's the composer behind The Last Story. I was thinking she's behind that as well for some reason.

Yeah, she's definitely having a violin phase. Last Ranker's preorder bonus soundtrack is a Piano Trio arrange of several tracks.

No who's derailing the thread? j/k

I didn't know Yoko Shimonura also performs live in her works. I was hoping they could sneak in some June Chiki Chikuma in there and add some Ney Middle-Eastern flare. That said, does the music signature sound more of Shimumura's or Mitsuda's?

That's not Shimomura. She uses hot musicians though.

This is Shimomura:

Wow, the field trailer makes me interested. I hope the story is either good or understated. Does anyone know anything about the battle system?

So Nintendo outdoes Zelda themselves... Fans have wanted an overworld like that forever. Lol.

Regardless, the game looks fantastic.

wow!

how missed this kind of jrpg. with their focus on creating an immersive world, both this and the last story really could get me back into a genre i lost all interest in.
:lol

lost interest because there was fuck all in gamecube and wii?

heck, why am I not surprised it takes two EXCLUSIVE nintendo jrpgs to make you gain interest in jrpgs again?

console fans are so transparent it's hilarious.

Well, there aren't that many RPGs with a focus on exploration. If that's what he wants, there weren't many RPGs for him on any platform in the last several years.

Though, one has to wonder why Last Story gathers his attention if he has lost all of his interest in the genre - we don't know anything about its gameplay yet and while the screenshots are impressive, they certainly don't show anything special that we can't see in every other jRPG. :lol

Twilight Princess said:
this overworld's already lookin better than twilight princess's
That's not saying much:/

Ah, by the way, to those complaining about the flat fruits: the world is composed of the corpses of two gods, thus the world itself is basically flat: flat fruits make perfect sense in such context.

The last vid looks pretty good, especially how the party is impossibly fast on land and water.
