Xenoblade's 'Engage the Enemy' is last generation's best video game track

I'm waiting until I get gaming PC to play this on Dolphin. I don't think the original Wii hardware would do it justice. Am I right or wrong?

I dunno. Dolphin makes it 1080p but they're are some affects that mess with what monolith soft made because its Dolphin. I'd rather play an HD nintendo version

It looks really good on the Wii U via HDMI Out and also via Off Tv Play so I play it all

I can still tolerate looking at the best looking wii games so I dunno where you may be at.

Hell I tolerated Pandora's tower but the pallette kinda bothered me XD

He said it best

You're not wrong...kinda. The thing is that Monolith Soft poured all they had into the game and pushed the Wii to it's fullest potnetial to make things work. There are some issues of course, like missing shadows or some texture mishandeling, but the sheer level of polish to the game makes those flaws ultimately irrelevant, and the proverbial 'justice', was done to great effect. Dolphin increases the resolution, but then all the game's flaws become so much more obvious, like the realitively lower detailed models. And don't get me started on HD texture packs, which by and large ruins the internal consistency of the art style and makes it all too sterile...

The point I'm trying to make is this; if you want to play on Dolphin, more power to you. But then you're really not playing Xenoblade as Monolith Soft ultimately executed it as, but as the hyper-modified version that brings down too much to prop up too little. The 'justice' you're looking for in this case is one that was decided and released, but deemed not good enough and needed improvement, and has sadly tarnished an incredibly beautiful game with the reputation that the hardware it was built for 'wasn't good enough.' But that's just me and my weird bias against modified emulation...

Definitely one of my favourite tracks from the game. I can't pick a favourite because there are so many great pieces in the game but that is definitely up there close to the top.

Also for people playing through on Dolphin, I played through that way when it came out and it was pretty great for the most part. There was a patch to make the iso run at 60FPS instead of 50 and it ran fine most of the time with only minor slowdown in some cases. I didn't have any weird glitches or anything. It probably runs a lot better on the latest version. At the time I had a midrange machine and it was fine so an up to date mid range (or lower?) machine should play it fine. I'd highly recommend giving it a go via Dolphin if you can.

Guar plains is so overrated lmao

Engage the Enemy is pretty good, especially in context, but I think there are other tracks from last generation that I like better, like Still Alive from Portal, Hills of Radiant Winds from Nier, and Gusty Garden Galaxy from Super Mario Galaxy. I also think Gaur Plain, Unfinished Battle, and Main Theme are better tracks from Xenoblade.

No. This is the best song in Nier is Grandma

Blu-Bird is great too

Opinions n' all that, but I disagree.

Nier, FFXIII, Mario Galaxy and a few other titles had much better tracks. Too many to list actually.

Nah. Their ost's are too similar. Xenoblade has diversity in spades.

It's good, but it's no Go My Way from The iDOLM@STER, but that's one of the greatest songs of all time so it's a little unfair to compare the two.

Unfortunately that pales to this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jcIOg_m-bp4

Which cant touch this

Xenoblade OST is incredible indeed. Best OST of the last generation, of that I am certain.

Still, can't really choose a song, I mean... it's impossible. Still, gotta show my undying love for Mechonis Field. So good.

That's beside the point. We're talking about the single best track in any of last gen's OSTs, and the games I listed all have better examples than the one in the OP, imo.

Honestly, xenoblade's music is so good, that there is at least 5 tracks that you could substitute for engage the enemy in the title, and you wouldn't be wrong.

Xenoblade shows that the whole "generic hollywood movie" cinematic style soundtracks that most games get these days aren't always the best route. One of the main reasons I love Japanese games.

Hey, rather than getting up in arms at each other at what's the best, can't we just all agree that Xenoblade has an excellent soundtrack and is an excellent experience in general?

My God, OP. I've never really been able to play Xenoblade Chronicles, unfortunately, and after listening to some of these unbelievable tracks, I feel ashamed. :-(

Oh I opened this thread this morning and it reminded me to finish this game once and for all. I was near the end but all those battles had me put down the game a while ago. Anyways, I went for it, decided to just leave the sidequests for what they were and 6 hours later I watched the credits roll.

What a game, the music is truly spectacular. That ending theme was beautiful as well, I wasn't expecting a vocal song. Sounds like Céline Dion (that's a good thing). The production value of this game is amazing. The fact that just listening to the music made me want to play it again says a lot. I need that OST.

Mechonis Field is just a great piece of music even outside the scope of the game (MF was a pretty dull location). I sometimes listen to the extended version while working.

How about this masterpiece: https://soundcloud.com/iyakku/xenoblade-chronicles-agni-ratha-imperial-capital-iyakku-remix
