Yahoo: PS3 = lump of coal

PS3 is a great for games and movies, but charging the battery via USB is pretty annoying. Every time that "low battery" message comes up I have to stop the game, plug in that tiny USB cord (which does not reach to the couch) and leave the PS3 running for a couple of hours while it recharges. It's my only gripe with PS3's hardware.

The battery from my Sixaxis is dying, as well as a couple of old 360 battery packs.
They can't hold a charge for more than 2 or 3 days, even with very low use.

i'm glad the batteries are rechargeable, but they should come out, i agree. if not for the consumer's benefit, then for mothers earth's.

tossing those controllers with the battery packs is some environmental terrorist shit, for real, propagated by the likes of sony less they change that shit. microsoft's just as bad: how many AA batteries have been thrown out from spent 360 controllers?

wtf is wrong with these companies. apple and their annual hardware revisions is the worst eco-terrorist, by the way. their batteries are locked in as well and their entire incentive as a company is on some, "upgrade to the new next shit!! that old shit is fukt!! get rid of it!"
Ever heard of rechargeable AA batteries?

Shots fired! Man down, Man Down!

But yeah, that article is crazy. Almost 'you have to plug it on your TV' kind of crazy

You actually do this?

Buy a longer charge cable (monoprice.com) and or buy a second controller.

You can recharge the controllers using any device that has USB ports. I never use my PS3 to recharge the controllers, since I do so when I'm not using it. I just plug the controller into the computer, which is on most of the day.

Guys my iPod's battery ran out! I've only used it for like 3 hours, how do I change the battery? It's glued shut o_o

Rechargeable batteries eventually die and need to be thrown away. Side question: What percentage of 360 owners do you think use rechargeable batteries?

This is what I do. I have a 4 port USB hub hooked to my HTPC and when I'm not using the controller I just plug it in there.

You're right that I should probably just buy the longer cable. I have thought about that but never got around to doing it.

I do.

Have 2 battery packs so when one dies, the other is ready :)

Use rechargable AAs in my Rock Band stuff.

The Futureshop in town here has a free drop box to dispose of small devices like Cellphones and MP3 players to be disposed of enviromentally friendly.

And, your point? That X360 controller doesn't use rechargeable AA batteries means less of them out there? That's a big stretch. As for your second question, I would assume most people do. Like asking how many people use regular vs rechargeable batteries on every device. As for me, I have wasted ZERO battery since X360 launch. Rechargeable AA since day 1.

Sony PlayStation 3

It's all fun and games until the battery dies. Unlike its competitors, which use replaceable AA batteries, the PS3's remote control is glued shut. When the battery goes, Sony customers have to blow $55 on a new controller. Sony says there's an "environmental benefit" since gamers don't have to toss their batteries on a regular basis, but Isidor Buchmann, president of battery-equipment maker Cadex Electronics, says captive batteries are becoming common because it's cheaper for companies to eliminate the battery housing and hatch.

:lol

The PS3 controller si not glued shut....

It has screws, and the battery from one broken controller can be use in another, because the battery can be unplug, damn how lost these people are.

It may be that they are actually trying to justify as something good, the fact that the 360 controller has no buil in rechargeable battery or motion yet it cost just 5 dollars less than a DS 3 with motion, rumble and build in rechargeable battery,oh and you don't need a charge kit prety much any mini usb cable work with it,chances are that if you have a digital camera you don't even need anything else to charge your PS3 controller.

people can get AA batteries for cheap as hell. The fact that rechargeable batteries exist doesn't change that. Even though none of my friends use rechargeable batteries, I do think it's pretty stupid to use regular AA batteries instead.

Hurray for you!

None of my 360 owning friends use rechargeable batteries. Of course this is anecdotal.

My point is that rechargeable batteries still need to be thrown out eventually. Just like PS3 controllers. Though, I guess a PS3 controller with a battery that no longer functions could still be used while connected via USB cable.

yes, this shitty holiday article from a bit writer for yahoo (written to troll people on NeoGAF, naturally) is clearly yahoo's clambering for a microsoft buyout

This is so blatantly stupid it's almost impressive, I mean wow! :lol

Edit: Hang on, before we jump to conclusions, did they ever Coal the 360 before the RROD was fixed? Because if so it's still goddamn ridiculous, but if not... this gets even funnier.

Then, tell your friends to use rechargeable. Save money in long run and environment.

Remember that article when they compared the power usage of a PS3 and a refrigerator? :lol

Seriously, comparing anything to a fridge is idiotic, in terms of power consumption :lol

lol, this is a troll from 2 years ago. I've opened up my DS3 and it would be super easy to replace the battery.

Some one should make an article vs this one, actually using those words.

How many 360's a DS3 can out last.?

For the record i still have my controller from my 20GB PS3,and yes it out lasted my 360 and yes still charge find.

Well, to be fair no one cared two years ago because Sony lied and said they would replace them for free so it was a non issue. Now that they have reneged on that promise, it's a fair complaint. A minor complaint but a fair complaint none the less.

Yahoo is such a fucking joke overall.

Have you ever read their "news"?

Shit's worse than fox

They do shit like this for TEH CLIX - ad dollars. MONEY.

The same reason IGN's reviews are 17 pages long.

I would say a high percentage.

It was a piss poor design decision for the controller. You should be able to swap the batteries out. My 360 controller batteries are on their last legs but the controller is fine.
