Yahoo's Tumblr cracks down on porn

And then Tumblr will die, and the next big thing will happen. Welcome to the internet, comrade.
I'm not exactly sure why you quoted me, but regarding the second block of text, I think one of the big problems on Tumblr is that the frequent users think it's hip and okay to use the tags for "posting their feels", and that makes things harder to look for in general because nobody tags their posts correctly. And the search only searches tags! (I think?)

I'm baffled myself why they need more categorization to keep people from stumbling upon 'bad things' when it's so hard to find things in general in the first place.

I'm more sensitive to the shitty ad-posts for The Purge that show up when I'm trying to view porn on tumblr.

Sex,sex, sex, sex, terrible movie picture that kills my erection, sex, Purge advert.

I quoted you because I wanted to use your addressing of my points as an example of a better way to discuss things without dragging "me" into the picture, as it were. It was pointed out to me that I was wrong about the tag search thing, which i'm fine with admitting.

It will suck if Tumblr does boot all the porn, but there will be the next place to come along soon.

I need to go be alone now.

to cry, not to masturbate.

well maybe a little masturbation.

Oh they're not going to enforce this! This is total lip service for investors.

I recently did a traffic analysis on Tumblr - honestly, 80% of their traffic is straight up porn - they won't cut their nose off to spite their face.

They'll still allow search engines to pick it up... guarantee it.

Relax everyone there is still reddit's /r/gonewild/ and the like.

Unless there was something specific about porn on tumblr that made it better?
Other than the fact you didn't have to go to reddit.

No big loss on my end. I lost all interest in tumblr once my favourite boobs and butts blog (agrowingconcern) closed last month. :-(

I use Tumblr all the time. Searching tags is just as big a part of finding content that interest's you and new blogs to follow as is finding them through reblogs on your dashboard. This new policy of censorship definitely is to the detriment of Tumblr users. It will be harder for blogs to be discovered and gain new followers if the tags they use in their posts aren't searchable.

So some blogs simply have a NSFW tag? Nothing wrong with that. Sites like deviantArt have done that forever and no one complains, just change your settings how you like.

The major issue here is that tumblr is removing your ability to search those tags in any way, shape or form. The content will still be there, discoverability will not. Unless there is a NSFW marker you can tick which allows the search to act normally, it's oppressing the information on purpose.

Oh, dang. What is even the point in that? Their explanation is that they want to make sure people who don't want to see nsfw posts don't accidentally stumble upon it, but if someone searches for "boobs", then clearly boobs are what they want to see.
