Yakuza 4 in Europe in Spring 2011

Come on guys. Sega might have some stupid ideas but I think selling their already niche product only in Europe and not the US would be a little too stupid.

Announcing it with more than 6 months to go and following all the backlash from the cutting of Yakuza 3 makes me think this will be more like Yakuza 2. Subtitled and (mostly) complete.

That is very surprising seeing as how Yakuza 3 probably bombed. But I'm just talking out of my ass here as I haven't seen the charts. I still don't own it...maybe someday, it's already had a price drop I believe.

Larsen B - PS3 is region free don't forget.

I think it did fine.
It's had one minimal price drop since March, not that it really means much.

Who said it bombed?

Just checked the Sega forums, the U.S. announcement is simply a matter of timezones (in other words, U.S. release is confirmed, as if the E3 appearance wasn't enough). The release timeframe being Spring 2011 and the fact they're announcing it this early leads me to believe there will be far fewer cuts. As late as August of last year, Sega was still trying to figure out how to dump Y3 with a minimum of effort.

So I'll be even more mystified when they screw this one up somehow.

It's Sega, so I have the feeling you won't really be all the mystified.

Good to see a western release for Yakuza 4.

It sold on par with Yakuza 1 on a localization budget as small as conceivably possible. I think they're taking it as a win.

I expect them to still cut stuff out of this one, though. I doubt we'll ever see the hostesses again.

Events in Akiyama's story are directly tied to hostess clubs and playing the minigame. It's gonna be hard to cut it this time.

No.

Sure. The Yakuza games are like episodes of a TV show. Playing other installments will certainly enrich your experience, but it's not necessary. The games even helpfully include recaps of previous "episodes", available to watch at your leisure.

Well, no one will notice if a certain Mr. Akiyama disappears.
And if they do, no one will notice if they disappear too, right? ;)

I'm taking the early announcement as a good sign, but there's still no way in hell I'm pre-ordering it.

Enjoyed Yakuza, Yakuza 2 & Yaku 3.

Hope Yakuza 4 makes it in complete form to the west. No more CUTS Sega!

yup, and NOW they know it D:

;)

Sega's doing something right for a change? They're making me not wish they had died with the Dreamcast for once?

This does not compute.

Awesome! Playing through Yakuza 3 now and loving it.

I read that the hostess club factors into a story mission in Yakuza 4...so it might be more difficult for them to cut it.

Also begging for KEnzan at this time is pointless. The game is too old and they would not only have to trnaslate it but put in trophies to release it. That's way too much effort. Just be glad you are getting Yakuza 4.

HELL YES!

Even with the cuts, Y3 was fucking amazing and I put more hours into that game than any other game this year.

Thank you SEGA.

From the Euro blog:
Quick Edit! Hi guys, lots of comments so far – judging from them a fair few regarding the Y3 situation, which is fair enough. Whilst I don’t know all the ins and outs of the game at this stage I can at least confirm to you that the much loved Hostesses will return in Yakuza 4 in all their alluring glory. As for Nagoshi-san I’m sure you can come up with some really in-depth questions for him – so come on whats the one thing you’ve alllllways wanted to know about the world of Yakuza? :)

Aw yeah.
