Yakuza Kiwami 2 Announced for December 2017

So if I get this straight, I can actually start the Yakuza series now by playing:

Yakuza 0 --> Yakuza Kiwami --------------> Yakuza Kiwami 2?

It's only 3-5 that are still PS3 only?

The very first game was the only one with an english dub and it's remake, Kiwami, is coming to the west in a couple of days...wth japanese VA.

Then you have it's prequel, 0, as well on PS4 and eventually 6 and 2's remake.

That only leaves 3, 4 and 5 which are all available on PS3 with english subtitles. 3 is the only problematic game of those because a bunch of sidequests and activities were removed from the western release.

At this point just get 0 and Kiwami, and take a break until the next release.
 
Eh, I really wish I could wait and play this but I've waited to really sink my teeth into this series long enough. I'll be playing Kiwami Tuesday and pulling out my PS2 to play 2. After that I have the 3 PS3 ones so I'll be ready by the time 6 reaches the states. It's disappointing because I really want to play the best version of 2 but I guess there are gonna be plenty of people playing this as a fan of 2 and not for the first time so playing from that perspective won't be bad.

You don't really need to play 2 tho, it is pretty much self contained. Seriously, out of all the games, I think it gets referenced the least in the later entries. So you won't be missing anything out if you wait for Kiwami 2 and play the sequels before that.
 
I am absolutely sick of all these Yakuza announcements, this isn't good at all.

I'm going to overdose on awesomeness.
 
Almost done with 0 (story, still loads of side content), getting Kiwami on release date, and 6 in March.

One thing I like about these Western releases is that they are spread out enough to avoid burnout.

Yeah I suppose that's true but I mean why wait for a game that doesn't even have a western release date? My plan is to play the PS2 version of 2 on easy just to get through it and enjoy the story. It sounds like you've played 2 so I guess I can ask you, are you excited about this version of it? I mean for some remakes, part of the fun is seeing the changes that were made and the scenes that you love in a new way right? Thinking about it like that makes me feel better about moving forward with the series now. Plus, I've never been one to skip entries in series that I like and I think that me knowing that it exist and that people consider it one of the best in the series would drive me crazy.

I might as well buy 3, 4 and 5 on PS3. Seems like if they remaster these it will be awhile yet.

I've had 3 & 4 sitting here for a while hoping that Kiwami 2 came around so I can replay it all. Got halfway through Yakuza 3 and lost steam with the "will they, won't they" choices of localization releases. Once the English localization announcement hits for Kiwami 2, I'll start it all again.
 
I'm still a bit iffy on the Majima announcement, are we 100% sure he's playable and its not just cutscenes a la the Nishiki cutscenes in Kiwami?

Yakuza 6. Uses the same engine and expands upon what was there in Y6.

This is just the remake of Kiwami 2. It's coming out this year for Japanese regions.

Yakuza 6 is coming out next year FOR THE WEST. Yakuza 6 was already released last year in Japan. We're pretty much always a year behind Japan when it comes to these games. Kiwami 2 will probably be released for the west in Fall 2018.

My Japanese is quite bad, but this says "Additional playable scenario" and shows a fight with Majima, so I guess it's confirmed
 
Some might not like my suggestion, but i hope SEGA skips the other announced projects and focus on localising this asap. Yakuza Online especially, since it would likely be costly and the last thing this franchise needs is more financial risk.

Kiwami 2 is important as Y2 is widely regarded to be the best Yakuza. Plus this will finally bring the entire mainline series to HD (SEGA should put 3, 4 and 5 up on PS Now).
 
Definitely gonna wait for this before even touching 6.
Guess I just need to track down a copy of 3 since it'd be the only one missing now.
 
It's disappointing that Kaoru is in the trailer for only a few seconds and apparently isn't even important enough for the poster. I really liked her character and the arc that she and Kiryu have throughout the game, and for a while kept hoping that she would return in a subsequent Yakuza game after 3. As much as I adore this series, its female characters (outside of Haruka) aren't always stellar; 2 set a bar that the other games really haven't met.

As someone who didn't play Yakuza 2 (started on Yakuza 3, played Yakuza 5 only Kiryu chapters, and Yakuza 0) I'm real happy to hear that they are bringing Makoto back. I fully understand that these games are standalone stories, but it is great to acknowledge characters from previous installments
 
Dang I was not expecting Yakuza 6-tier graphics. I guess even with the increased asset quality these games are still relatively cheap to make. It looks pretty good.
 
Vote with your wallets next week, not with your tweets. There is no reason to beg for games to be localized if it's proven that they will do good by buying the first remake.
