Yo-Kai Watch |OT| So this is like SMT, right?

Just picked this up. Kind of bummed that there's no Miiverse screenshot support

The actual game predates 3DS Miiverse, as I recall, so like the internet battle/trade thing, they may just have not wanted to try bolting that feature onto the code. It is a bummer though, because that means there's no way to screenshot the game, as far as I can tell.

By the way, here's a real mechanics question: do Unities affect the entire team, or just the linked yokai of that family? Like say I have Jibanyan and Cadin standing next to each other. Do they give a speed boost just to each other, to all three mons on their line, or to the entire team for the duration of the fight? The game help is extraordinarily unclear on this.

Also still lookin' for that pink coin/Frostina & Blizzaria info ;.;

Eh, a lot of games predate miiverse that ended up getting the feature. Just from level 5 games, there's AAvsPL and Inazuma Eleven. Still, it's not a big deal but there's a lot of neat stuff I'd like to take a shot at

I understand this game has a breeding/fusion/whatever mechanic. Is it like Pokemon and the offspring is the same species as one of its parents, or is it awesome like Dragon Quest Monsters and you can make fusion-only Yo-Kai? Part of why DQM is my favorite monster raising series is because of its breeding system and crazy long chains to get cool monsters.

I'm gonna play the game regardless, but I won't be able to for a while and I'd really like to satisfy my curiosity. Thanks!

It's actually straight out of Shin Megami Tensei: fuse two yokai, often obviously related, together to create something new. The results often cannot be fused because they're already high-end.

So I'm 3 hours in and enjoying the game a lot. I just got bodied by Sproink like a rookie though. I beat him on my second go around using more healing items. I feel like I'm missing something with the battle system. Anyways the presentation is great and the world is nice. What is the deal with those bonus scenes after beating side quests? It caught me off guard. I'm looking forward to playing some more of the game.

I beat him extremely easily. What level are your guys? Mine were about level 12.

If you're having trouble I would suggest exploring the town to find quests, they give a ton of experience compared to battles. Or if your guys are at a similar level make sure you're using your strongest Yokai, my D level guys are noticeably less fragile in fights than E levels.

I like some things about this, like the ways some of the production values, and the presentation of the story and such are above Pokemon games. But it feels like it lags in a lot of other ways that Pokemon already had back in Gen 1 and 2.

Also, I'm just not into most of the designs. I get it's the look of the world. But they are Yokai, and I would have preferred if more of the Yokai were actually scary instead of cute little creatures and people.

I was level ten and used all level E. I jumped into the fight a little too soon I think. Haven't had trouble since though.

How is the 3D for this one? Ever prsent? The reason i ask is because this seems like a more accomplished game visually than the 3DS Pokemon games, yet those one only used 3D in the battle scenes and with a considerable frame rate drop.

I think C and below generally are able to. If B or more than it is probably not fusable.

Are there yokai that actually evolve at a certain level or just fusion?
There are certain levels as well. No automatic evolution, which is nice.
I tested the recruitment and those that evolve can be recruited via items. Bugs tend to be easier to level up since high quality juice seems luck based on vending machines.

Is there anything more to the battle system than the 3 mini games? I liked the demo but I could see the same 3 mini games getting pretty boring and I thought that after 20 mins of the demo.
The demo leaves out items, souls that can targeted for bonuses, and X to fast forward easy ones. It never got stale the 30 hours I played. Plus you purify way more than the demo.

Nope! Well not in terms of charging super moves anyway.

It's a shame there's no online multiplayer, I bet this is really fun against another person. It would be cool if they had like special moves that do a lot of damage but can be pinned away or something too.

The hell is all the bold stuff?

I wonder how they will translate super japanese characters in the sequel like Rokurokubi? Only thing I can think of is Limbra, some of these really will be tricky.

I'm really enjoying this. Played most of the afternoon and evening while watching football yesterday.

Very well done and relaxing game to play. I like the battle system and the touch screen stuff makes it way less boring to me than most turn based battle systems.

So like to do the postgame quests that are a prereq for
Kyubi
's quest you'll need drops from the following Yo-Kai (first two are srs spoilers so don't look until you're actually at the post-game):

white Pinkipoo
white Reuknight
Greesil or whatever, it's the thing with the big head in the Infinite Inferno

Just a heads-up.

Simply everyone can be recruited in mobs. I tried to get one and was thinking perhaps you cannot recruit him. But I learned for Rank C and up, you start wanting to not bother with "a little" items. I started using the 2nd most expensive items and even then Saint Nick was a bitch.
In terms of classes, it is straight forward. Bug-Like Yokai like juice, Spirit-Like Yokai like bread, etc.

When you feed a Yokai food in battle once you cannot give it food again for the rest of the battle even if you target it (it'll just be given to another Yokai or you just can't if it's the only one left).
Use the best food you can afford. Since you can only give food to that Yokai once in battle just go all out. Casavana's ability increases the chances of Yokai wanting to befriend you and he's pretty good so get him if you can.
And yes, Yokai have different befriending rates so some are harder than others.

Does Jibanyan evolve, or is he stuck at Rank D? He's the only one I'm not willing to replace, so I'm curious as to whether he ever gets a nice power boost.

Rattelle is now one of my favorites. Really nice design.

He cannot evolve but he can be fused into Baddinyan and Thornyan.
And there are other Nyans.

The Quests in this game are pretty good, one problem I had with LBX is you could only do one at a time and there was a huge load-screen just to get to the menu to access Quests...so glad Yokai Watch lets you do as many as you want whenever you want, and I like how some of them flesh out the individual Yokai.

Fused my first Yokai, "Darumacho". I can fuse Jibanyan, but I'm hesitant to do so since he seems like one you might wanna keep since he's the mascot.

And each episode except the first one will have a QR code to scan. This is likely a solution till the medals come out.

Just figured out the medallion is sorted by type. That helps so much!

Just got Fidgephant. Trying to get Castle III, but got to wait until night.

I fused him, I got a Thornyan. It's stronger, I miss having Jibanyan though, he looks cooler.
Baddinyan (Roughraff) > Thornyan.

I'm getting a pretty strong team, I just beat the boss of the chapter where Bear loses his mom's ring and I have a B-rank and a couple C-ranks. It sort of ruins hunting for Yokai since none of the ones I can find in the field at this point are as good as what I already have. I do have really bad personalities though, I don't know what it is but almost all of my Yokai are carefree.

So, Jibanyan only has two Fusions? Was wondering if he had like one for each Type and was like Eevee. I kind of like Thornyan, and I don't have Roughraff to get Badnyan, so I'll go with him I guess. Kind of bothers me Jibanyan is like Pikachu and kept his name, but the 'nyan clones don't keep their names like the Pikachu clones do.

I still don't really get the Type System in this either---how do you know a Yokai's weakness? I assume the elemental attack they use is their Type, but are the weakness of Yokai based on their Type, or based on their species?

Great game though.
