I was just thinking about this when I saw the thread
The past two years I have focused on clearing out backlog games while not adding new ones. This has been good for the numbers but it made me prioritize short games too much. I'm gonna have a completely different approach to it this year.
I promise that I will:
-
Clear out the retro(/semi-retro?) console backlog
With that I mean GB, GBA, NES, SNES, GC, PS1 and PS2.
It's been bugging me for quite some time that I don't take the time to play the oldest games in my backlog. Mainly because it's gonna be a pain to replace them if something breaks. It's been like a buzz in my mind for a while but I've been having troubles with the setups and whatevs. I just finished setting up everything perfectly and even got a new couch so NOW this WILL happen!
-
Focus more on hours played than games played
I want to play DA:I at least eight times. I want to play The Witcher 2 at least four times. I'm not even gonna try to figure out how many playthroughs I want to do in the Bethesda games. I can keep going with a huge amount of games.
I didn't let this happen the past two years because I felt bad about "wasting" that time. I played a couple of them once but didn't let myself finish them the way I wanted... with the result that those playthroughs will have to be replayed. What I apparently didn't realise is that these mega huge games will still be there and will take just as many hours if I play them another year. I need to let them take time, let myself have fun. That is not wasting time. Stupid brain!
-
Replace the aimless browsing on the phone with PSP and NDS
I keep checking different forums, reading news and stalking people I hate instead of playing the numerically small but playtime-wise astronomically big backlog I have on handheld devices. That is stupid and I have to stop doing that yesterday.
-
Play more co-op
My SO and I went from playing together frequently to not finishing a single game together for... years now. Bad, very bad. Gonna change that in 2017.
-
Not buy the Switch
This one will be hard. It looks like a dream console for me. But did I play on that first PS4 I just replaced with a Pro? Nah. Did I love the original 3DS? Nooope (2DS ftw). Did I play anything on that first Vita that I replaced with a fancy japanese special edition? Nuh-uh. Have I even started the Xbox One? Eh... no.
Do I ultimately regret being there pretty much day one for every single console the past two generations? Yeah, in hindsight! So I'm not gonna get that stupidly amazing console. I'm gonna wait for a good looking edition or a pro/slim/new version or somerhing like that.
