It's funny, those portraits are among the main reasons I don't want to touch the Might & Magic games from that specific era. They look jarringly anachronistic to me.

Especially this naked asshole:

I don't know how you can hate such a funny guy, i'm smiling just by looking at him lol.

Also he makes me think of him

Gravity Rush was the first one that came to my mind, they did such a great job with Kay's faces.

Also just remembered Velocity 2X, Kai had some hilarious ones in her dialogue.

It's Lucky Strike not Star... like the cigarette brand (and she has a Katana for... striking), but yea people loved her even when she was nothing more than a portrait and stats... before she got fleshed out in the director's cut (probably because people loved the look and idea so much. Good pick.
[The rigger "Justin Case", not an awesome portrait, but man, some cool names in that game]

I actually looked at it and thought it looked wrong but it was getting late and I got lazy. Thanks for picking that up.
I didn't realise Lucky Strike was a fan favourite. All I know is that the developers had her in all three Shadowrun games recently either as for hire or occasional NPC for world building but it was pretty memorable overall. I was smiling when I ran into her in Hong Kong and she spoke about her team back in Berlin.

I was obsessed with the portraits in Disciples: Sacred Lands. They were a really unique combination of western and Japanese aesthetics and I haven't seen similar art since anywhere...

There are no high quality versions available that I know.

Interesting! Never saw that game.

As an avid "arcade-monger" during my pre-college years, I was immensely fond of the character artwork found within various games created on the Capcom Play System II board.

I love the dialogue portraits in Grandia.

Think my fave is Rapp

Plus any Arle portraits from early Puyo Puyo series.

I like you :3
Justin's and Rapp's are especially great.
Also, this is one of the few games where they even bothered to give the side characters unique portraits.

And these are just a few, there are so many more

Can't believe there's no pictures of Feena in this thread.

Some Feena for all!

Same.
Also: Such high hopes for Cyberpunk 2077's characters, look and feel. *daydreams*

Katawa Shoujo had some pretty great portraits too. Of the main characters I think I liked Shizune and Rin's expressions the most. Both offer expressions and feelings that seem pretty on point with their characters. Shizune with her strict and purposeful gestures to help you or to challenge you to understand her meaning while Rin's confused or casual expressions as she struggles to understand or express something.
The way Shizune's portraits jumps from one to another multiple times quickly when she signs rapidly is also very clever and a nice touch.
