Your favorite multiplayer experience this generation?

Last I checked (a couple of months ago), yeah, there should be at least a dozen full servers running. I think it's healthiest here in Europe though, can't vouch for anyplace else.

Hmmm. I assume it's got a great netcode?

Not really (in fact, it's pretty bad!), but if you're used to playing with peer-to-peer pings (I see you're faaaar away) it could work out for you... there are some play styles more suited for high pings (tanks/defensive engineers), and hey, maybe someone has an Asian server running, the game does have a campaign (3 maps) set in Asia. :P

I'd check for you but I'm not anywhere near a computer with QW on it at the moment unfortunately.

Without a doubt, Uncharted 2. There's still a healthy amount of online players and it's like nothing I've ever played. It's just so different and I find the gun play so satisfying. I'm still a daily player and have so much fun. Co-op is also amazing.

Thanks for the heads-up! It's always fascinated me as a bit of a quiet heavyweight, whilst the rest of the class-based shooters, Battlefield predominantly, make the noise. I put it in the same boat as Frontlines. Good, intricate and solid class-based shooters.

Starcraft II, hands down. So fast, fun, intense, and streamlined. And insanely fair!

Oddly enough, I played far, far less online than I used to this generation, despite all of this Xbox Live and PSN business. I guess I just realize now that I only like local multiplayer on consoles usually, and everything else on the PC.

Battlefield 1943 with my roommate. We still play pretty frequently, although it's usually one at a time/pass the controller every round rather than both playing at the same time. It's just an exciting game to watch and play.

SC2 and L4D1/2

Well over 700 hours for L4D. No idea what I'm at with SC2, but I've played about 600 league games plus customs and a little campaign.

Many great console online games this gen as well.

I don't usually play multiplayer games or their components, but at the time I got a code to enter the Resistance 2 Beta and I got hooked on the co-op multiplayer. I'm not very good at FPS but playing as a medic was just perfect for me. I just had to give support to the other players and revive them when needed, and just after a few games I was getting really good at it. It felt great being useful to the team, and I was lucky to always have good team mates.

Just want to add Uncharted 2. Been playing the MP for the past few days and it's been really fun. Some of the levels are really stunning too, like the Fort and the Lost City. Sometimes I get killed because I'm too busy admiring the scenery.

Burnout Paradise

Well over 200 hours into the game and it's not only my favorite racing experience this gen, it's also my favorite multiplayer experience this gen as well.

Tekken 6 LOCAL competition
SSF4 LOCAL competition
Resident Evil 5 LOCAL co op
Castle Crashers LOCAL co op
Critter Crunch LOCAL co op
Uncharted 2 Co op

Never bothered with the others

For online multiplayer:
- Halo 3
- Left 4 Dead
- Left 4 Dead 2
- Super Mario Strikers

For local multiplayer:
- Smash Bros. Brawl
- Rock Band
- House of the Dead: Overkill
- New Super Mario Bros. Wii

I've enjoyed a few the last years:
-L4D & L4D2
-COD4 & MW2
-KZ2 (¿and KZ3 :D?)
-Resistance 2
-Metal Gear Online

But I have to say.. the winner is Battlefield Bad Company 2. There's no other game that has "that" feeling of dynamic play with all the destruction and vehicles.

Have to say Bad Company 2 for a few unique reasons.

Spawn on squad

Spotting

Motivating players to do more than just shoot. IE Motion mine assists, repairs, healing etc. All of which are given an extra bonus for staying with your squad.

Dynamics of the destruction and smoke/dust effecting visibility.

Realistic bullet trajectory ie you have to lead your shots if a player is running or aim high if the enemy is far away, or both

Great classes with that are easy to use abilities and are strategic per map/mode/offense/defense.

FREE DLC MAPS

It's just so good, can't wait for BF3.

Battlefield moments

FREE DLC MAPS

I really enjoyed BF:BC2 but their free DLC maps was a complete cop out. Basically it was just unlocking content (maps retooled for a different game mode) on the disc at a specified time.

My most played multiplayer games from this gen would be:

TF2
L4D2
Gears of War
Halo 3/Reach

But Team Fortress 2 is the best multiplayer game this gen. Starcraft 2 is the best competitive multiplayer game.

As unbalanced as it can be, Modern Warfare 2 was just fun for me. I wasn't great at it, but I just couldn't put it down. The weapons, the perks, the crazy kill streaks, it was quite an experience.

Halo Reach is there for when I want to be "serious" (aka, I have to work at being good) about my multiplayer gaming.

BY FAR

I live at home with three brothers aged 14-21. We played this **** to death and back and back again.

League of Legends - I have played this game nearly every night since beta, so hooked. Free to play but I have spent over $200 on optional stuff.

Chromehounds - Nothing like it, here's hoping AC 5 is similar! So much fun customizing and tweaking your mech and testing it out with your clan, felt a lot like making and playing a TCG deck.

CoD4-Put it something like 40+ days and didnt stop playing until MW2 came out. Will go back to it when I renew Live. Love Hardcore TDM. Silenced G3 > All

Didn't play it nearly enough, but was really really fun!

I have to say EASHL in the NHL games, especially in 10 and 11.

But I've had SO much fun with Firefight in ODST, and Halo 3, while flawed, gave me some great multiplayer experiences too.

And right now I'm getting into the multiplayer of Starcraft 2 and I'm LOVING it.
