Your most anticipated game as of right now

Uh, I'm actually not sure.

Maybe Persona 5? That or Nier Automata. I'm also definitely looking forward to Horizon but I'm trying to temper my interest because I'm still not completely convinced that Guerilla can live up or their own ambition.

I try not to get invested in pre release hype anymore. It rarely ends well, even when the end product is good.

I stopped getting excited for games since the release of Castlevania Lords of Shadow 2.

And eventually I moved on! Horizon: Zero Dawn, and when that's released, God of War. Can't wait!

FF15 followed closely by Horizon: Zero Dawn.
I'm at that point with both that they'll either be the greatest games ever or the biggest disappointment ever, no middle ground.

Announced is a tossup between Mafia III and Breath of the Wild. If I didn't keep forgetting Cyberpunk 2077 exists I'd probably be excited for that too.

Unannounced is Red Dead 3 by a country mile. I'm literally having recurring dreams about it.

In no particular order:

  • Sonic Mania. Brand new 2D Sonic game that's far, far more authentic to the classic Genesis games than anything since the first Advance (especially their last attempt with Sonic 4), with a soundtrack that has heavy shades of Naofumi Hataya/Masafumi Ogata's Sonic CD soundtrack? Yes. Yes.
  • Freedom Planet 2. The Freedom Planet scratched an itch I had for a momentum-based platformer while Sega wasn't providing, and I'm very interested to see where the second one takes things (even now after Sega is providing). Plus, it's pretty damn gorgeous.
  • Zelda: Breath of the Wild. Admittedly, I didn't really play through Skyward Sword, but the idea of an open world Zelda title fascinates me. We'll have to see if that pans out - the distinct lack of music beyond basic stings for item collection was a bit disappointing, but the combat looks about as fun as ever.
  • Crash Bandicoot remakes. I still rather love Generation 5's 3D platformers, even though as their genre is kinda dead nowadays (or perhaps more so because it's dead now). It's a shame it's not a brand new game in the same vein, but I'm interested to see how they're going to overhaul the blocky PS1 graphics to Gen 8's standards. On that note...
  • Yooka-Laylee. Again, revival of the Generation 5 3D platformer? Yes please. Unlike Crash, this one's brand spankin' new - so it loses on the familiarity factor, but gains on the new ground factor. This is totally Banjo-Threeie with a new cast of characters, though.
  • Duke Nukem: World Tour. A new episode with a lot of the same people responsible for the old episodes on-board? Sure, I'll take it. Though... $20 for that is awfully steep; will probably wait for a sale.
  • Shenmue 3. Granted, I still need to play Shenmue 2, but I loved the first one back in the day, so I'm very, very glad to see it making a comeback so Ryo's adventure can come to some sort of conclusion. (Or yet another cliffhanger, as will probably be the case.)
  • Psychonauts 2. Loved the first, will gladly dive right into the second. The classic LucasArts-esque humor the team (including former LucasArts alum Tim Schafer) brought to the table really made that first title, and the platforming wasn't terrible either. Deliver more of that, and we're good.
Beyond these, I'll presumably continue to mess around with games from older generations that I skipped over, as I'm frequently wont to do.

Of games we've seen stuff from, Prey (runners up; Dishonored 2 and Mass Effect Andromeda)

Of games we haven't, Cyberpunk 2077.

For 2016: Dragon Quest VII, Cosmic Star Heroine and The Last Guardian
For 2017: Horizon, Persona 5 and Breath of the Wild
For Long-term: Final Fantasy XVI directed by His Itoness.

Persona 5 and Horizon for upcoming games. That being said, if there was a solid release window for Cyberpunk, would most likely be this.

Sonic Mania looks like the game I've wanted for 20 years
That's how I feel about Zelda BOTW. I was fourteen when OOT came out, and while I loved it, I was really disappointed by how linear and artificial the world and progression felt. BOTW looks like the 3D Zelda I've been dreaming about since I was six.
