Ys VI: The Ark of Napishtim PC |OT| - Re-Release of the Far West Ocean

How long is the game, compared to Origin and Oath in Felghana?

Definitely longer than Oath or a single playthrough of Origin. I'd say about as long as playing through all three routes in Origin, if not slightly longer -- expect about 20 hours your first time through, give or take 5 hours.

A lot of game for my buck, I might get it tomorrow after all. Thanks Tom!

Falcom or someone with developers would have get permission to port it. So pretty much 0% chance.

Also, it's Origin! Not Origins.

Y's Origins

Oof, I don't know if I can afford to spend money on this, especially when I know Trails in the Sky SC is coming out
relatively
soon.

I see, thanks. I heard that the PS2's VA wasn't that good so this might be for the best.

It's terrible. Trust me, it's a blessing not having it here.

Really? I didn't find Napishtim necessarily longer than either of those. It just feels like it because of all the backtracking. I also died many more times on Oath so that stretched out the gameplay.

This was one of the games that got me into Ys series back in the day. Awesome game and sound track is awesome!!!

I hope Ys MoC gets ported to PC and Ys 7 and Ys 8. I hope Falcom remakes Ys 5.

So we have all the Ys series on the PC.

Also first week of Stream will have the game discounted on Stream according to the stream.

I really liked Ys Origin and Ys the Oath of Felghana, finished both recently. Will buy as soon as this goes live.

Xseed, you have my money and support. Hope more Ys will come in the future.

How do the difficulty settings compare to Oath? I chose hard when I replayed Oath recently and got pretty fucking frustrated and dropped it like 25% through.

I like a challenge but that just got irritating.
I did play through Origin on hard and it was fairly manageable but that was as Toal and he seemed pretty broken compared to Yunicka.

Will this be a completely different translation than the fantranslation that was put out for the JP PC release a couple years ago? I seem to recall hearing that for Oath's (or was it Origin?) translation XSeed worked with the fantranslation as a base. Just a mild curiosity. Thanks.

I only ever play Ys games on Normal (I know, I know!), but as I understand it, Napishtim on the harder settings is pretty brutal. Probably not AS brutal as Felghana, but more so than Origin.

We did work with fan-translator Deuce for Ys: The Oath in Felghana, Ys I & II Chronicles and Ys Origin, but we elected not to use either the fan-translation or Konami's translation for Ys VI: The Ark of Napishtim. The game has been fully retranslated from scratch by the same guy who translated Ys: Memories of Celceta for us, in an effort to remain more consistent with the series terminology and tone we've established to date through our edits.

Glad to hear that as it has certainly confirmed my purchase now. I already own Japanese release but a new translation gives me a good reason to pick this up now.

Played and enjoyed it beforehand, but I'm ready to pick this one up as soon as I'm allowed to. Love this series and I need to see it succeed.

This will be the first Ys game I play on a difficulty higher than Normal.
Health Potions? You had that in Ys 1 and 2 and I barely used them.
If I need health I'll get them from the blood splattered corpses of monsters!

It's super easy:

Tilt the direction you want to dash jump in -> release dpad/analog stick -> press attack and jump together. Bing.

That sounds like that special attack in Ys Origin...

Jesus. ~20 hours is what took me to beat OiF the first time. Almost done with my 2nd playthough of Origin and clocking at ~25. This is gonna be a loooooong game for me.

I think I took what 15 hours to beat Oath on PSP?

Took me a total of 20+ hours to beat all 3 Origin campaigns...across the period of 1 month :p

Aw yeah. I just checked on Steam to see if it's available yet. Unfortunately we are not able yet to give XSeed our money. Apparently it'll be available early in the afternoon (EST).

Definitely feeling tempted to run Normal/Catastrophe first run. After all that time spent in Felghana and Origin, this seems like a correct choice.

Come on, GOG.

I hope there isn't a speedrun achievement in there. I like to take my time playing. >_>

Took me 15+ hours to finish Oath and a really long time (2 months) to finish Origin's three stories due to starting them all in nightmare.

How does the Ys series works, do I have to play the other games or the ploy isn't connected ?

Ys I and II are connected, the rest you can play however you want.

"Adol is an adventurer that travels around the world. He has a partner called Dogi". Bam, that's all the plot you need for every game beyond Ys I and II.

The main plots aren't connected directly. Instead, the games are connected by lore and background story stuff. In short, you can play Ys 6 without playing the others. You'll miss a couple of references, nothing more.

Looking forward/dreading my Nightmare Catastrophe run on this. Although really, it's only the penultimate boss fight I predict will cause major problems.
I'm glad this is getting a proper rerelease although would have been nice for Nightmare mode to allow
you to upgrade all your swords to max without insane grinding instead nof just one
.

Flipping hell, I forgot this comes out today. Just when I was whittling down my backlog instead of adding to it as well. Hope this does well but that's pretty much a foregone conclusion for Ys games on PC theses days.

Yep, it definitely is. Once you get the feeling for it, you will never miss the input again.

My clear save on Japanese PC version is at 20 hours.

Just reread an old review of mine. I cleared everything in 20 hours on the same version as well...so the time stands, I guess.

As someone who has beaten Ys OiF and Ys Origin, should I play this game on Normal or Hard?
What difficulty did you beat both of those on? If it was normal then Normal + Catastrophe would probably be the best option unless you're looking to challenge yourself -- a few of the bosses are actually pretty difficult, especially when you take away the use of consumable items that the game was originally balanced around. If you're looking for a bit more of a challenge then you could probably handle Hard + Catastrophe though.

Catastrophe is available for normal and hard too.

It's more of a setting instead of a difficulty.

Thank god. Initially I was under the impression this was the case, but all the talk about Catastrophe "difficulty" made me a bit uneasy.

Since this is only my second Ys game Normal+Catastrophy will be my first playthrough at least :D

^I use a program that lets me use DS4 with any game I have, so technically it can support it?

Ooooooh OK then, C. Normal for me, phew!

May have to pick this up thanks to the new additions (wasn't expecting that) as they will make the game much more enjoyable and I was already a big fan of the original.

Hmm with those system specs, the new Surface 3 could techinically run this correct? I am debating getting one of those tablets and if I could play Ys on it on the go would be neat.

and we finally get Ys VI on Steam, this makes me so happy. The VI/Oath/Origin trilogy is complete.

With the added warping this is the best version of the game.
