I wasn't as crazy about Shenmue as most people, and Sega's general incompetence is also a hype killer, but I'll be damned if I didn't get excited just by reading the topic title.

C'mon Sega, follow through!

Just sell Jet Set Radio IP hell maybe even Panzer Dragoon IP to any other company and use the money for Shenmue 3.

I want to be mad at that suggestion, but it's probably the only way I'd see sequels to those franchises at this point. =/

SEGA could easily make it. Some of the crap they've comissioned over the past few years says they could. Don't release The Club 2 and Sonic Riders 2, and you might just be able to make Shenmue 3. It's not rocket science.

Looking at SEGA's real franchises, they have Afterburner, Alex Kidd, Crazy Taxi, SEGA Rally, Golden Axe, House of the Dead, JSR, NiGHTS, Out Run, Panzer Dragoon, Phantasy Star, Shenmue, Shinobi, Sonic, Space Harrier, Streets of Rage, Super Monkey Ball, Virtua Cop, Virtua Fighter, Virtua Tennis, Wonder Boy, Yakuza (thanks Wiki) - how on Earth are they struggling to make money out of anything but Pachinko?

If SEGA can spend 15 million dollars on one of the worst game this generation - Golden Axe: Beast Rider - than why they cannot throw 20 million for S3?

They can use Yakuza engine (it's good enough IMO), subtitle the game for USA and Europe markets and sell minimum 1 million copies worldwide.

Again, just development cost for Golden Axe: Beast Rider was 15 million $

I'm sure there are a lot of old ex-gamers who will buy game. I personally know about 5 of them, and I live in small/poor county like Bulgaria.

Shenmue is the Firefly of games but given that people bought Heavy Rain, I could see Sega green lighting this.

That said, if I wanted to have a boring time in Japan, I'd rather buy a plane ticket than simulate it but I suppose I'd buy a copy to see how it turns out. The concept of Shenmue was interesting enough.

my conscience is alright, i bought Shenmue 1 and 3 copies of Shenmue 2 (Japanese import - outrageously expensive - DC English version and Xbox version).

I also don't understand what would make Shenmue 3 exceptionally expensive at this point.
