Zangief in Street Fighter 5. trailer

We don't have a Russian character and full fledged grappler so Zangief is a perfect candidate for diverse roster because he had both!
 
Well that was boring. Really hoping for a few original or fun characters to round out the cast, no more characters from the late eighties capcpom plz

We disagree bro, it doesn't mean you need to insult people. Nothing I said was insulting in my first post, just stating that I won't be buying the game now as I'm bored by the roster. You can buy and love the game, and that's cool too. If they bring back Alex then.....well count me back in. Till then, we'll see.
 
Haha, welp there he is.....yesterday was a fun read in the other thread lol. Don't get the Gief hate but I do get the SF2 hate since SF3/IV characters haven't gotten any love so far in SFV. As much as I want Alex/Urien, these SF2 characters(outside of Ryu, Chun) are getting quite a nice revamp to be honest. Compared to the other SF2 characters, Gief was actually one of the SF2 characters I'd like to see in and he looks great! Guess this means Dhalsim is in to fill in the long range character though I'd rather have Sagat/Balrog. They'll make it in the game later any way but I really wanna see a SF3 character as the first wave(however they do it) of DLC since they aren't gonna be at launch.

As for Gief himself, holy shit......Siberian Blizzard being a special?! Russian skies will be protected! Animations look great and they have a nice change to some of them. That CA though is really crappy compared to everybody else though, I mean just one German Suplex that drives the opponent into the ground? Pretty lame compared to Final/Ultimate Atomic Buster or Siberian Blizzard and they should've done something more creative. Still though, gonna be great to see Snake Eyez with his main back at Evo2k16!!
 
Neat. I dig the vacuum tornado and focus attacks. Looked like he headbutted a projectile there once and comboed into a grab. Looking good there.
 
Everyone moaning about the reveal. My favourite 3 characters are Urien, Guile and Balrog, but I'm rolling with it.

Giefs a cool dude, just chill. You get out what you put in with SF, you might love this character when you actually play him.
 
His Critical Art is definitely boring looking but I think the devastating aspect of it is that he does the suplex then just with raw strength pushes you into the ground with no momentum whatsoever. It's cool but it just looks like it has no flavor unfortunately.

I think it's pretty great, save for Gief and Vega. Honestly kind of dampen what was otherwise a pretty nice initial roster. Gameplay wise, they definitely add some nice variety, but I would have preferred some more 3S characters.

The world warriors are starting to outstay their welcome. Sorta. Still, Gief looks really fun to play as so I can only complain so much.

Maybe he's not as far along in development as the other characters that have been revealed. Maybe he was going to be close-to-launch DLC but they switched him in to troll everyone and buck the predictions. Yeah, that's it! Everything's going to be fine, guys!

I think the trailer just had some weird cuts making it lol like it's a single suplex replayed when it's actually his rolling triple suplex.
 
I might try him out, but I will say this was the most lackluster reveal yet. Capcom is playing it safe though. There are more fans (general population not core) who like the classics than fans who like that other stuff no one remembers. They gotta bring in the crowds with the familiar faces and introduce obscure characters later on.
 
Haggar is a lousy mayor anyway. Like the streets are full of thugs and criminals and he just starts beating up them up instead of fixing the problem by its real sources, poverty and a sore lack of social structure for the young people in metro city.

Yeah, that's what's happening in his CA. I guess the idea is a lot cooler than the execution.
 
For real though, Zangief has been in every single Street Fighter game since 2, including nearly every single spinoff or crossover game. What made you people think he wouldn't be in the main roster in this one? Blind hope? lmao
 
I think he looks really good, that v-skill parry/walk forward armour looks sick. Standing roundhouse crush counter will be deadly too.

EDIT:
I also like the idea of brief CA animations, I'd like to see them all with a static camera so they are less of a break in gameplay, but that will never happen.

Would've preferred Haggar or Alex, but Alex is never getting in anything again despite being the second best grappler (to Mika) is he :(
