Zangief in Street Fighter 5. trailer

His rising-elbow-into-air-spd trick from the trailer reminds me of Alex's crounching-fierce-into-air-knee-grab anti air, although Zangief's seems trickier.
 
Man, the not-Ultras are such a downgrade from the SFIV Ultras. It's one of the few things I'm not loving about the game.

Thank goodness for that. Ultras felt, both aesthetically and mechanically, like Capcom "just figured this 3D shit out and oh shit we can swing the camera around hell yea let's zoom, pan and throw filters on this motherfucker." And suddenly a cutscene-based fighter was born.

It wasn't a "rumour", it came straight from the devs and it shows as Birdie and Mika lost their 360 motions. They just changed their minds since I doubt they could make Gief work without fast grabs, that's all.

Every time I asked for a link to an official statement I would never get one. Where is this interview with the devs?
Some people are saying yes, cautious optimism until official confirmation.

My only disappointment with this game so far is getting rid of Vegas charges and making some of the characters like Ryu, Chun Li, Gief etc still look the same.
 
I don't mind Supers being shorter, that's good - but they've been all pretty bland. Zangief and my future main Karin having the worst :(
 
The most credible source I saw suggesting no 360s was this article by an SRK correspondant. But in retrospect, it looks like it may have been just an observation/assumption rather than relaying a statement.

Once again, I hope Capcom finally provides the actual, closer-to-OG-Hooligan Combo notation for the SPD, in order to make it easier on those that are less familiar with SF.

Maybe when Alex is introduced they will normalize all his inputs to a single style.

I don't know I kind of liked him that way. Made him a unique grappler type to me anyway

DDT looked cool but was totally useless. He needs the DP though and I want the cr. F(1hit) > DP back especially in a game that doesn't have freaking parries in it.
 
They're supers, and they should be short and sweet. Ultras were always mechanically stupid and way too long.

They intentionally made them quick. I'm glad we don't have 10 second animations in this game.

Karin's is pretty great, but yea Gief's needs some work. Show the impact of him trying to put his opponent through the ground better or some shit.

Well you're wrong. It's subtle, but awesome. It channels ancient greek-roman clothing for athletics. The Illuminati has supposedly been there since the beginning of human civilization according to the lore so his channeling of an ancient society fits. The guy also looks like a greek sculpture which also fits into his god complex.

I was surprised when Hanzo from Yatagarasu had a charge standing command grab super. I don't think I ever anything like that in a game before.

Chrome Dome(?) from the TMNT fighting game had a charge command grab too.

me too, Jubei was a bad ass in Fatal Fury Special, and he had charge command grabs. i want the SF team to rip off his movelist.

Man, so glad Gief is back (tears of joy)......Funny that at the time of the reveal that I had just beaten a very salty Blanka twice...too bad for him Laura was revealed and not the balling beast....I guess Karma kinda striked there...so salty was this guy.
