Zelda Art Thread

Wow... This thread has some truly amazing art! While I am definitely a huge Zelda fan, I've never really done much Zelda art...

Here's one doodle I feel ok contributing to this thread:

Wait a minute, are you joking or being serious?

I am serious. Why? It wasn't an arduous task or anything... just was replaying Link's Awakening DX a few summers ago and I had totally forgotten about the little "photo" cut scenes they added. That one in particular was simplistically pretty to me and I wanted it on my desktop. So I sought out to make a version to fit my monitor. The end.

I see it posted in threads from time to time still (like now) so I'm glad people like it... but credit goes to Nintendo. They made the art in the first place.

Here's the links if people want them:
Color
Black and White

If you're that interested- I also did some others for myself that are surprisingly still on that site. One for DK '94 and Pokemon Ruby/Sapphire's intro panoramas.

EDIT: Not trying to plug that site or anything. I'm not affiliated with them, but that's where the images live and the original ones I saved are buried on a hard drive somewhere.

I've been working on this drawing off and on since the thread started, and I was inspired by Katsuya Terada's art. Hope I'm not to late to the celebration!

That art makes Zelda seem like more than it is. But then you realize you hardly get a sense of any such story or deeper characters when you actually play the games. Well, most of them. But Zelda isn't a story & character kinda game anyway. So... the picture is both amazing and kind of annoying for making me think about this.

At best narrative-wise I think Zelda is supposed to be like a good children's book, or a Pixar movie.

Hope you don't mind, but I decided to take your artwork, and try it with a few old school Zelda colour schemes...
Don't worry, I don't mind. Thanks for taking the time to do that!

This is the first faux package made by this guy that I don't really like.
Looks out of place, would fit more a Final Fantasy game.

Agwee. Zelda boxes have always had a more gold/bronze motif (except Majora and the DS games).

I like a bit of a change. Skyward Sword has it's own feel and is a new direction for Zelda. Leave the old themes and colors for Ocarina 3DS and 25th Anniversary.

You have to be pretty talented to produce something that fucked up and disturbed, pixiv>>>deviant art in terms of artistic skill.

I don't even know why someone crafted such a monstrosity as this.....

Yeah I don't care for it. When I first saw it, it reminded me instantly of final fantasy crystal chronicles.

Yeah but so what, sometimes a fresh change its what you need.

New Mario on Wii with the red box being a good example. There was no precedent for it and it was awesome.

The one big problem with that fanmade box is that his own artwork is terrible

Beautiful! The AlttP one is my favorite.

Here's a couple unfinished Link drawings by me:

(Excuse the placeholder background, the impossible anatomy of the fairy's leg, and the off-perspective of the sword sheath on Link's back. I fixed the two latter problems in my sketchbook, but still need to scan them in... then I must tackle my weakest area--backgrounds.)

This one is a portrait of me as Link. It was my final in a drawing class that I never completed...

Its awesome and I prefer the original over the different color schemes. Not everything has to be super saturated and colorful geez.

I really like the way TLG looks. Cartoony character but realistic environments and creatures. I hope Nintendo goes in this direction for Wii 2 HD, but they will most likely end up doing something unpredicatble as always.

That's awesome (both of you), the original color sheme is also very Twilight Princess-ish.

And again, what a lack of consistency! The name of the game doesn't contain "The", damn it! This isn't a ~20 years old game like The Adventure of Link, or even a ~10 years old game like The Wind Waker or ___ Four Swords Adventures!
What the point to work many hours on this and blowing everything by frakking up the title?! It piss me off in a very AVGN style here. Have you ever heard of the movies "The Star Wars"?

DO IT NINTENDO, DO IT NOW!

I may have missed this the first time around. I was searching Zelda art on google and got linked back to this thread.
Actually a good way to search through this thread is just to type in Zelda Art Thread on image search.
Anyways this is wonderful, and I didn't even like Elebits on the Wii. Scroll all the way to the right.

Haha, that's great. There was a guy here in Adelaide who was doing the same thing a few years ago, but with the Commander Keen sprites.
