It seems like the main thing causing a misconception with BotW's OST is simply that the overworld area themes are of the very minimalistic variety so that means less booming overworld goodness getting blasted into your ears like that one bit of the TP Hyrule Field theme that wont leave your head (you know the part I'm on about).
Otherwise it's soundtrack is still playing by the series rules if that makes sense, village themes, dungeon/divine beast theme, catchy minigame themes, it's all there.
I will say you have to kind of go searching for some of the great stuff since it doesn't play enough in game to burn itself into your memory, at least not quite yet anyway before people have replayed the heck out of it to get hype for the various gaining entry the divine beast themes.
Overall it's probably my favourite of the series.

I'm not sure it's so much underrated as it has the advantage of taking what I'd consider the most classic of Zelda soundtracks and updating it for modern audiences thus its less impactful when you know most of its tracks already but damn if some of those remixes aren't the best the respective themes have had. Plus there's still some great new themes in there as well. My only gripe is a lack of AlttP opening demo theme in there.Link Between Worlds soundtrack is so underrated.
