Zero Time Dilemma 3DS/Vita/Steam video comparison

Steam version looks best, but Vita is portable...hmm...I don't really go out with my vita or anything like, ever, but I like being able to go to bed and play the game with headphones while girlfriend is reading something. Hmm think I'll go Vita and pick up steam on a sale eventually.

I'm going Vita due the fact that I already have VLR on the Vita...and I have the watches from the previous two games and I've already pre-ordered the watch from the third.

Struggling between 3DS or Steam. Only benefit the 3DS had is portability but I rarely bring that system out of the house anyway so decisions decisions...

Grabbing 3DS. Just 'cause.

Will wait for Steam versions of all three to go on sale, then double-dipping so I can marathon them all again. Curious how 999 will look, being sprite-based entirely. Redone assets?

(I took the image from the video, but spoilered it anyways just to be cautious.)

Doesn't work for mobile users.

Ugh! I have both the 3DS and Vita versions pre-ordered. I'm tempted to cancel the 3DS one, since it doesn't look the best, but I would like to have all three games in the series on the same handheld...

I guess I'll just double dip.

Man the way people were talking abut the 3DS version I was thinking it was looking absolutely horrendous, talk about over-exaggeration. I got the other games on DS and 3DS, so I'm sticking with that, even if some coloring stuff and small costume details change. TBH, I've only played ZE with dual screens, too so that would probably be an awkward shift.

I had really wanted to buy this on 3DS, but I don't think I can reasonably justify it. I don't mind the aliasing and the frame rate seems fine, but the yellow tinge and image compression (check the backgrounds) really puts me off when I can easily play it on Steam.

I will miss the note taking, but eh, I imagine the PC implementation will be fine.

Don't really understand the obsession everyone seems to have with having a series playable on a single platform. Do you guys have that with other series as well? Like, did you buy CoD: Ghosts on the 360 over the PS4?

I can't speak for everyone, but for me it would just be OCD.

I might consider keeping a series like that to 360, but that started on PC anyway so I'd ideally do it there. But multiplayer IS another wrench thrown in.

You seem strangely bothered by it.

I can't speak for everyone, but it's just a matter of organizing my collection for me. That's why I also prefer to buy all my PC games on Steam instead of spreading through Origin, uPlay, GOG, Windows 10 Store, etc. if I can help it. Your comparison isn't really valid, since things like multiplayer activity, performance and platform obsolescence play a much greater role in that case than here. Even if the 3DS doesn't look as good as the other two versions, we're talking about a Visual Novel. So, really, as long as it doesn't crash and burn, I'm fine with less visual quality.

And besides... who the fuck would buy CoD: Ghosts of all CoD games? :P

i dont have Vita so will get this on 3DS, not the best system for a visual, cutscene and text heavy game but it will do. makes me wonder if we will see games of this type on the next handheld.

I'm not bothered by it, and I'm sorry if my post came across that way. I was just curious, because it didn't really make sense to me, even as a collector.

Personally I might get the 3DS version at some point too, just to support the developer. I might just gift my friends the series on Steam instead though.

As a collector, I see it as making perfect sense, much like a desire to have the entire trilogy to experience in succession on Vita or Steam as one's platform of choice if that becomes possible. Just more convenient not to have to jump between devices.

I'm not too worried about the 3DS version. While the other two look gorgeous as well it's always been my opinion that footage of 3DS titles always looks like garbage compared to the games running in the actual hardware.

Can't fucking wait. Can't believe that ZE3 is finally almost here.

Have the Vita version preordered, but seriously considering dropping it for PC. I like the portability of the Vita, but I'll be hanging onto my PC for a lot longer.

I'm rearranging my desk as we speak.

It's the only acceptable way.

No harm done, duder!

Wait... 999 coming to Steam? How will that work, what with the, uh, final puzzle?

Smartglass, obviously!

A variety of reasons, actually:

Continuity. I know it's kinda dumb, but I played 999 and VLR on DS and 3DS respectively, so those are the systems I most associate this series with.

Portability. I don't have much time to devote to gaming these days, so I try to divide whatever free time I have between handheld/Wii U and PC gaming. I already have a crapload of games to play on PC that I want to finish ASAP, so getting ZTD on PC would only make me add it to my ever-growing backlog. I can squeeze any few free minutes I have every now and then if I can carry the game with me at all times, instead of having to be at home to play it.

Overlapping. I use my PC to play other types of games, e.g. graphically intensive games, long games like Fallout or Dragon's Dogma, etc. I don't see myself putting 20, 30 hours into a text adventure on PC if I can get it on 3DS.

"Loyalty". My handheld of choice is the 3DS. I love everything about it. Even if the Vita version is "superior" to the 3DS version, I want to support my favorite (handheld) platform. Besides, I don't like Sony too much, so the less money I give them, the better. I only use my Vita for exclusives.

That being said, I'll probably double dip and get the PC version just to show my support to Zero Escape, even if I never actually replay it on PC...
Honestly seems like a stack of weird reasons to me, but whatever floats your boat.

Keeping my Vita pre-order even though I have a good PC. I'll be playing it on my PSTV, and I want my physical copy with the watch.

Steam version has system requirements beyond my tablet's capabilities, so I'd have to play sitting at my gaming PC. :(

On the other hand, the 3DS version looks really ugly.

Also, rent on 3DS or buy via Steam sale?

I've beaten both games but my memory has faded, gonna need to brush up on the story before I give this one a go. Getting both handheld versions for the DS/3DS physical completion but gonna play on Vita. Really pumped for it.

I could see how my "loyalty" to the 3DS may seem weird. But, dude, I just don't have enough time to be in front of my computer hours upon hours these days. If I can play a game bit by bit on the go, I'll take that opportunity. And for me, the 3DS is much more portable than the Vita. I just put it in my bag and go.

What I don't understand is some people (yours included) resistance to others who will get the 3DS version, first or only that one. Would your reaction be the same if I had chosen the Vita version over the 3DS and PC?

Do what you like, I just find the reasoning odd on most accounts. I'm not sure how much good it would do to list out all the reasons why since it's just going to be a weird argument.
