Boehner Threatens Lawsuit Against Obama Administration
According to a new report from Roll Call, House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) is considering a lawsuit that would challenge the executive actions that President Barack Obama has been using on a variety of issues that have otherwise stalled in Congress. During a meeting with fellow Republicans Tuesday, Boehner reportedly raised the possibility of the House of Representatives filing the lawsuit, which would aim to curtail the president’s power.

“The president has a clear record of ignoring the American people’s elected representatives and exceeding his constitutional authority, which has dangerous implications for both our system of government and our economy,” Boehner’s spokesman Michael Steel said. “The House has passed legislation to address this, but it has gone nowhere in the Democratic-controlled Senate, so we are examining other options.”

In response, House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi spokesman Drew Hammill said, “While the urgent needs of the American people are ignored by House Republicans, it is reprehensible that Speaker Boehner plans another doomed, legal boondoggle after he spent $2.3 million in taxpayer dollars unsuccessfully defending discrimination in federal courts.”

In 2011, Boehner convened the Bipartisan Legal Advisory Group in order to challenge the Obama administration’s decision to stop defending the Defense of Marriage Act. The House later dropped its case and the Supreme Court subsequently deemed DOMA unconstitutional.

Over the past couple of years, President Obama has used executive actions in attempts to help curb gun violence and ban anti-gay discrimination in the workplace. Most recently, the president’s Climate Action Plan employed a variety executive actions to cut carbon pollution.

"The president is ineffective and does nothing and when he does do something we're going to sue to prevent him from doing anything. Oh and it's not our fault because we're doing... something."

Wasn't there an article earlier this week how the house has enough votes for impeachment. If the republicans take the senate next autumn, it's going to be so entertaining for us political junkies outside of USA.

This will go nowhere

That's the point. This is GOP leadership attempting to placate the far right with half measures and other bullshit they can parade as "accomplishments." They have lost nearly every time they've challenged him since the 2011 debt deal disaster (where Obama caved), and now they want a scalp.

There are republicans who want to start impeachment hearings, yet this lawsuit shit is what they'll get...and it'll go nowhere or be thrown out in court.

The last time they tried to impeach a president it backfired on them, Boehner isn't going to go for it. He's the one sane man in that asylum.

I rather have Obama impeached, then we can have good ole Joe take the reins.

Is this really anything new? They've tried to stop his moves with the EPA, with Obamacare, and with immigration.

Just seems to be business as usual.

We'll all burn together.

In Europe it's more straightforward, isolationist right-wing parties and austerity creating havoc. At least in USA there is the added element of craziness.

The beast already ate Cantor, after the elections who knows how emboldened the loons will be.

Yeah, I keep hoping for it.

You hear wingnuts claiming it all the time but they just can't seem to get around to it.
because they have no cause of action

Wouldn't a vote for impeachment be more appropriate (even if it was a lost cause)? Suing just feels real childish and petty.

If they can ram it through the courts fast enough and get a sympathetic judge to come down against Obama then they would probably move forward on impeachment as they would have judicial ammo to claim

It's interesting how executive actions weren't impeachable offenses until Obama became president. They gave Bill Clinton endless shit but didn't really question his executive orders.

You're living in a deluded fantasy land if you don't believe the GOP's hate for Obama isn't personal and/or rooted in racism.

part racism/mostly fanatical right wing agenda. but yes im sure for the GOP members who are racist (#notallGOP) the thought that Obama, a biracial man, has held the highest office in our country for 6 years now infuriates them and makes them mad that he holds that title of accomplishment over them.

Executive actions are a mainstay of the White House now due to the impossibility of the legislature actually doing anything.

I have relatives in the US who believe Obama should be impeached for his "constitution violating ways". Then again they are Mormons and listen to people like Glenn Beck.

The problem is that many politicians give these people promises they are unable to keep, so now the mob is getting angry again and Cantor suffered as a result. Who knows what will happen in the elections but nothing is enough for people like my aunt. They want Obama out and the "good old America" back. I don't even know what that means. It's all very entertaining though, so many twists and turns, conspiracies etc.

she doesn't either, if she goes to far back in "good ole America" she'll loose her right to vote lol.

I wonder how they feel about a woman as president, would it be less or more hatred compared to Obama?

The Republican party went off the deep end ever since Bush left office. We have a do nothing congress that basically just exists to make Obama's term look bad so Republicans can use it as a talking point in the next election by refusing to pass any legislation.
