4chan in trouble - Martin Shkreli wants to be the new moot

The Undertale and Freedom Planet generals that used to be gave me the impression that the opposite holds true

We're talking relatively here. Most generals are between 40-70% waifu shitposting but /v/ is around 30% waifu shitposting, 30% console war shitposting, and 40% twitter/social justic/e-celeb drama. /vg/ has overall more actual game discussion.

Also Undertale/Freedom Planet are somewhat unique cause of the fur-factor.

Maturity, bitches.
/g/, the tech board is just one big linux ricing circlejerk and consumer whore forum now. It ain't one of the good ones.

I used to love 'ricing' my system. I'm an OS X user so there were limitations but as time has gone by the system became less and less flexible and basically I'd rather just hide most elements now.

One of my favourites was making OS X look like Windows 7 as a dig at all those people who love to make their windows machine look like OS X.

I've yet to find a photography board that's as helpful as 4chan's. Same goes for most the other art boards on there.
For many 4chan just equals /b/ and likely old school /b/ at that (though some could argue today's /b/ is worse since it's edgy teenagers rather than adults acting like idiots)

I'm not a 4chan user so maybe i'm wrong, but a "containment" board like /pol/ sounds ineffective at best.

It was relatively effective, but as time went on, it spread to other sites, too. Before reddit's popularity, anyway. r/the_donald, for instance, is a cesspool like /pol/.

When it got half as bad as it is now, moot would cleanse the board, ban a bunch of people, and disable posting there for a while. When it came back, we'd have a few months of just jokes and trolling about politics. And then the racists returned, and brought their friends.

It really all hitched on people being too afraid of 4chan's reputation to go there.

As always, I blame reddit. Someone needs to PUSH THEM OFF OUR WORLD again.

i don't understand your hate for that site

it's completely free and open to free speech, everyone can post his opinion or share his work with the others. You cannot count how many meme went viral thanks to 4chan's users. if you want to change some boards, go there and post your point of view, if your thoughts are shared more people will agree with you.

closing boards it's a fascist thing.

the problem with the concept of that place as a containment board is that it eventually just worsened to the point where it became a safe space/echo chamber/whatever for actual fucking nazis. Then more and more of them kept congregating and spilling out into other boards.

What are you talking about? No outside entity is trying to shut 4chan down. They can't pay the bills, because bandwidth is excessive, and no one wants to advertise on a site rife with racism, homophobia, sexism, questionable pornography, and a burgeoning white power movement.

That's not fascism, it's business. If you want to start your own board where that's allowed, nothing is stopping you.

I wonder if they've considered moving to a P2P darknet like Zeronet. They're certainly big enough to make it work and their user base is generally tech savvy enough. Never have to worry about bandwidth or advertising again and hell you can even run it right in your browser. Sucks for people who shitpost on 4chan from their cellphones I guess but beats having it all die.

Their userbase is certainly not tech savvy enough haha
Half of /g/ (the technology board) doesn't know shit about technology, except that their favorite phone is really good, they don't have buyers remorse at all, all other phones are bad and their owners are retarded for preferring them.

A /vip/ board has been added where only pass users can post.

I don't think you know what fascism means.

Go ask /pol/ though, they might be able to help.

That takes me back. How I wish Hi-Rez hadn't mismanaged that game into the ground. I'd have liked to see an annual 4chan/Reddit clash.
