Shkreli buying 4chan would inevitably lead to him putting a paywall on it and thus 4chan dying.

It would be a really weird thing to assimilate.

Deleting /pol/ would seem like a nice option until you remember /pol/ is a quarantine board, kill it and the scum in it spreads to the other boards or worse to other sites.

Basically, it's the beginning of the end for 4chan. Also, remember, 4chan carries the weight of some of the most vile people in the net (ie, /b/ and /pol/), kill 4chan and you unleash them back into every other site in the net.

/co/, /m/, /tg/, i will miss you.

The containment plan failed. /pol/ has long since escaped the confines of it's boundaries. Today's political climate and the Alt-Right is proof enough. At this point it's just better it's deleted.

Wow, alot more 4chan users here than i expected haha

It shouldn't really be surprising, a lot of sites have an us vs them culture but most of the times you'll find they share a lot of users.

4chan has a lot of shitty thing, but at the end of the day, you are just observing how a lot of people act once they are not under social pressure. (Even on a forum, you are not really anonymous)

If Martin S buys it then it really will have hit rock bottom reputation wise. I would like to see a Future MootCraft 4chan, at least he would have the resources to not have to run it into the ground.

As long as /o/ and /g/ are still around after whatever consolidation occurs I won't be too dissapointed. We all need a fix of random barely moderated filth.

/pol/ still functions to some degree thankfully, the leakages are quickly quashed with a flood of other crap.

These "/b/ is vile" comments baffle me. What has it done at all in the 5-6 years to still have a reputation? Its a glorified shitposting/porn hybrid board and has been that way for a long time.

If you went off what you hear on the news and hadn't actually been to /b/ you would assume it was a much darker place than it really is. That isn't to say that it isn't a porn filled $#|+hole but it isn't the vile putrid hole of illegal filth and bomb threats that the 6 o'clock news would have most people believe.

Notch is a dickhead and he's probably fucking with people even more than Shrek.

He has a history with this.

Are you sudo or arc or sion?

Hi.

4chan has tons of awesome communities. Their tech, food and science boards are amazing for this, and their automotive board helped me decide to pursue a motorbike licence.

Yup I'll be sad if the site ceases to exist or completely changes. The little communities within the boards make it worth visiting from time to time.

He'd be way more likely to just let 4chan be 4chan uninhibited. which is honestly the worst case scenario.
Going off his twitter he's proposing stricter moderation of certain talk for boards to stay on topic, while going off Shkreli's twitter behaviour he'd be more likely to encourage /pol/ shittery while trying to make a quick buck off them.

I'd take Notch if I'm forced to choose.

Containment is a meme. When you give bigots a platform to stand on and a community to gather in, they will only become emboldened while drawing in more of their kind.

I mean, for years, people across the internet have been talking about what a horrible place /pol/ is and the kind of people it is home to. That's like a huge neon sign telling scumbags where the party's at.

Hiro needs to start a donation drive and axe /pol/. Removing webm support seems like the best way to throttle data costs, but I'd be worried about the fallout.

Notch wanted to buy it because it has 'the power to hurt Hillary Clinton' ... looks like someone's caught up in some echo chambers.

I went to /b/ just now and the first thing I saw was "post pics of teens that make your dicks diamonds part 2"

Added to that is super casual homophobia, misogyny, racism, etc. and that makes it a vile board.

Hey /vg/ got some very good video game discussion

/v/ is just for shitposting, /vg/ is where the discussions is at

A shame Notch ain't doing it, he has literally billions sitting around. Paying for a site like 4chan would be mere pocket change to him. Plus /v/ is partially responsible for his success.

Used to browse /v/ a lot, for whatever reason I loved those friday threads about shit that you would do. It made me feel good that another week of work was done and it was time to relax. But god fucking damnit the people there are really angry all the time. It truly is a sight to behold being able to say whatever the shit you want without the risk of getting the living shit beaten out of you, and complete anonymity makes that even more extreme.

Anthropologically it's a very interesting place.
