Anecdotal, but I was in Japan last week and went to literally about two dozen game stores in Osaka and Tokyo looking for I Am Setsuna. It was sold out everywhere, as was the Switch itself. Most stores had 1-2 Switch and Zelda.

Doing a direct comparison.

Switch and Vita had the same launch numbers for the first two weeks... better than Wii and PS4... way worst than 3DS.

Let's see next week but it is a pretty good launch.

Not the same shipments though, that's a major difference.

I think this ultimately shows how incompetent Nintendo are at launches. Shipping 2 million in the first month globally when recent hardware launches had PS4 sell 4 million+ in one holiday month whilst still being supply constrained and XB1 selling 1 million day 1 globally.

They could even look at their own launches. WiiU had an initial shipment of 3.5+ million in holidays iirc. 3DS sold 3.61 million in its first month.

I guess we'll only find about the SW's success once it stops being so supply constrained.

Neither does the 3DS one, at least for the West

US first weekend (launch on March 27th, 2011) - 400,000
Americas first shipment - 1,320,000

Europe first weekend (launch on March 25th, 2011) - 303,000
Others first shipment - 1,230,000

Mainly because nothing was out after launch until March (at least in NA).

The games that came out in March were LEGO City Undercover, Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate and NFS: Most Wanted U, all around the same time too.

Then we got nothing until Luigi U and Pikmin 3 started the whole a game a month thing for the later half of 2013.

It was a graveyard at points... Doubt it was better in Japan by much... I know Pikmin 3 gave it a boost at the time of release.

I only one I can think of is Xenoblade Chronicles 2, but Xenoblade has never been an outstanding seller. There's also Dragon Quest XI, but that is releasing on 3DS and PS4 as well. Skyrim too. Dragon Quest X release as well.

The only other things are SMT Project and Project Octopath Traveler, but those are not in the near future at all it seems.

SRPGs has Disgaea 5 Complete already in Japan and Fire Emblem next year.

one of the more interesting things to me will be to see how Zelda keeps selling each week in relation to how many new switches are sold and what the attach rates are at on a week by week basis.

Whoa this thread was a chore to read this time. Ick.

Looks like Puyo Puyo Tetris S has already outsold the LTD of Puyo Puyo Tetris on Wii U (8K) and Vita (14K) with its 17929 on Famitsu. Next up PS3 version at 24K. (It probably won't catch the 3DS version at 100K, the only version that really sold anything).

Nice going for Nier Automata.

It's almost because the low shipment for those games, not really because they are quite popular. Yamada Denki in Ikebukuro had no Zelda last weekend.

Launch numbers are almost always constrained by the amount shipped, so it's hard to predict whether it's going to be a flop or not (I think it'll be fine for now). Nintendo didn't want to over produce either (judging by their last two launches). My guess, they will supply 50k a week and maybe bump it up a bit when a big game releases.

Where you got your numbers? Second week for PS4 is 65k (79% drop)... Wii U is 127k... 3DS and Vita are exactly what I have for MC data... maybe you are using Famitsu for PS4/WiiU/Switch???

Pretty much why I won't bother discussing whether Switch is doing fine or not for the time being. It'll be interesting to see numbers a couple of months from now and then during the Holidays.

Looks like handhelds tend to have lower drops compared to consoles (With Vita and Switch being anomaly)

Just realised that Disgaea 5 disappeared from the charts, so less than 2.5k for week 2. NIS better not be too disappointed.

PS4 wasn't supply constrained at all during its Japanese launch.
