It’s a third stint back at the top for 505 Games and ‘Zumba Fitness’ (+43%), taking a fourth week at No1 since launch of the Wii version back in week 13 this year.

Zumba was last seen at No1 six weeks ago, the title receiving a massive shot in the arm this week as the Wii version jumps 51% to a second best sales week after the launch week. Last week’s No1 drops to No3 (2K/Take 2’s ‘Duke Nukem Forever’, -58%) and was 14 years in the making. This week, continuing on the theme of over a decade of patience, Nintendo debut at No2 with ‘The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time’ for 3DS. After the fanfare launch of 3DS back in week 12, 2011 Nintendo’s ‘Zelda’ 3DS is certainly a title that everyone has been waiting for – week 1 sales are not that far away from the top-selling title so far (Pilotwings Resort) which was a launch title. Around 20% of UK 3DS owners bought ‘Zelda’ this week. Of course, ‘Zelda Ocarina of Time’ was originally released on N64 and stormed to No1 in the Christmas Chart of 1998 (week 51/98) breaking all records at the time to shift around 100K in that week.

Square Enix take the next highest new entry at No9 with ‘Dungeon Siege III’ for 360/PS3/PC. Also new this week at No13 is EA’s ‘Alice: Madness Returns’ also for 360/PS3/PC. The final new entry is Ubisoft’s Xbox 360 ‘Child of Eden’, a Kinect-enabled multi-sensory rhythm action shooter, which is considered to be the sequel to ‘Rez’, first seen in the UK on Sega’s Dreamcast back in week 3, 2002.

It's either good news for Zelda, or bad news for the 3DS LTD. I'm not salesy enough to know which.
I read somewhere that OOT3D was near the Pilotwings LTD. I always hate those hints especially when its "number we don't know is just like another number we don't know"

New thread, old joke. But you're right I should've remade it, so ~12 HD copies or ~12 'better with Kinect' copies or ~12 copies in 3D, whatever floats your boat.

I also agree with what Spiegel says in the link. It is just impossible the 3ds sold just another 40k in 3 months after release

The monthly sales, percentage drops and platform split all come from chart-track so the only way it is wrong is if I have made an error with the percentage calculations.

Or Chart-track ;). If it's actually true, those figures are absolutely terrifying for Nintendo.

The 3ds has sold about 300k since launch week/month in the US (April + May NPD), there's no way it sold nearly as well in the UK.

I would say 200k is the reasonable upper limit of the UK LTD.

I don't see why Dungeon Siege is a bomb, it's much better than some recent SE efforts in chart placement, especially their non-FF rpgs.

Welll, in the Netherlands the retailers first tried pricedrops and discounts. So 275 Euro with a game(so a 25 Euro discount on a game) or 230/225 deals and all that. Now that OOT is out the system is back at 249 Euro so we'll see how it develops further.

I wasn't expecting Child of Eden to chart at all, really happy it entered at #20. Hopefully it lingers around for a while as the casuals hear about it.

You might want to include March NPD sales....

So that comes to a total of 700k. I think 250k is a very reasonable number.

That was part of my point. The launch in the UK was about 25-30% as strong as the launch in the US. It seems unlikely, with very few titles charting and reports of retailers slashing the price, that it would have kept pace or outpaced the US rate (relatively). More than 50% of the 3DS LTD US sales were in the first week, I expect the same is true of the UK.

Edit: Saiyar's extrapolation fit my guess. The LTD has to be less then 180k in the UK.

Zumba (Wii) sold a maximum of 32k this week.
Zelda:OoT < 32k
3DS LTD < 160k

That's crazy, I was called out for saying it was a poor showing but that pretty confirms it was an incredibly poor showing from OOT. o_O

Just what the hell is going on with the 3DS.

That's very generous, it's almost certainly sitting below 200k based on the figures from OOT and the fact that very few games have charted since its release.

Speedymanic said:

The casual gamers do not know it is a whole new console. They think it is a very expensive revision of the DS.

- It looks like a DS
- It plays like a DS
- It has DS in the name, just like DS Lite, DSi, DS XL
- Nintendo have shown barely anything in ads to suggest a massive graphics boost.
- They haven't highlighted the eShop

It has been marketed poorly. In fact, Nintendo haven't been getting a decent message across about anything all year. Going by their E3 presentation. . .you could be forgiven for not knowing the Wii U is a new console because all they spoke about was the controller.

European launch sales were around 3/4 of US ones, and the UK sales were just over 1/3 of European sales, putting the UK sales *very roughly* at 1/4 of the US's launch.
Assuming they follow the same pattern as US then 175k might be a better guess for the total.

I think Sho_Nuff82 beat me to it.

The big question is what caused Zumba Wii to jump 51% this week? Bundles? Marketing?

If the huge pricedrops (£70-£80) are anything to go by, it would not surprise me that much if the 3DS sale in UK has been quite slow.

Okay I'm doing a quick calculation. It has been around 10-11 weeks since the week AFTER the launch, but I'm taking 10 weeks in this case to be safe. that is 4k a week, or 571 units a day.

Really now?!

Again, it sold about 3k a day in the US in April, and it's relatively more expensive in PAL territories.

Random comment:

I know that at least it had a different shape, but if the resemblance with the DS is the main reason why people aren't buying the 3DS, then why were they buying the Game Boy Advance? And why would that even be a problem? The GB Pocket, Color, GBA SP, DS Lite, DSi and DSi XL all sold well despite being revisions. Only the 3DS and Game Boy Micro performed tepidly to poorly. Can't be as simple as the old "consumers are so dumb."

I think it'd be safer to assume that because games exclusive to the 3DS that are worth spending upwards of 200€ are few and not good enough, and that 3D isn't that interesting to the market, people know it's a new system but don't see it as a new system worth buying. They know it's not a regular DS, but what it adds for the price you pay (exclusive games, 3D, better graphics...) sucks/is boring enough that they treat it as a poor revision of the DS anyway. In other word, it doesn't offer enough new value to be considered really new, or even a worthy upgrade. Can't say I disagree with them so far.

[EDIT] Heck, it must really be super boring actually, because even Japan doesn't buy the system, and the Japanese are said to like new things.

I have no idea to be honest. I just figured that there would be no need to drop the 3DS price that much (not everyone has done that though) if the 3DS was selling at a good and steady pace. The 3DS games have also charted quite low (several of time they havnt even made it within Top 40) for many weeks. Going by this, i guess that somewhere around 40k is not 100% impossible.

I think for the most part it's simply the games, the bundled features aren't selling it. There's definitely been some confusion over it actually being a new platform, but it'll get cleared up over time and it's hard to judge how much that's been a factor.
Game Boy Advance was a very different looking unit to the Game Boy line, but again it's hard to say how much that matters, and revisions will always sell if they're appealing and priced right.

See? All we need is good software, not ports and shit efforts.

Nothing like a first-party game to drive the install base.
I'm pretty sure that i saw this Zelda game out some time around 1998 ;) Hehe. But seriously, it is a very good port effort though and not just some quick port with 3D effects added on to it. I assume that it is a port at least, and a remake made from scratch?

I'm pretty sure that i saw this Zelda game out some time around 1998 ;) Hehe. But seriously, it is a very good port effort though and not just some quick port with 3D effects added on to it. I assume that it is a port at least, and a remake made from scratch?

It's a dolled up port yeah.

I don't see why Dungeon Siege is a bomb, it's much better than some recent SE efforts in chart placement, especially their non-FF rpgs.
The name means nothing here in the UK and I haven't seen a single ad in any form, seems like it will do well on Steam can't see it doing chart worthy numbers for long.

Oh, and people concerned that the public doesn't realize this is a new machine, they'll learn when most new big releases will only work on the 3DS, not the DS. They'll figure it out.

man, this Zumba shit needs to end. You can literally enter every fucking house here and find some lardass playing it or some ancient granny being forced to pretend she's having fun when she's basically having a heart attack. It's terrible
