The title claims 17 straight weeks at No1 on the Wii Full Price Chart and in terms of unbroken weeks this is 3rd behind ‘Just Dance 2’ (23 weeks unbroken) and ‘Wii Fit’ (19 unbroken / 44 in total). New at No8 is Disney Interactive’s ‘Cars 2’ and also new this week is D3P/Namco Bandai’s ‘Earth Defence Force: Insect Armageddon’ for 360/PS3 debuting at No15.

Did PS3 version even get released? It's not even in the PS3 Top30.

Well, it makes a bit more sense when consider that, judging by other weeks around this time, that could be like 6-8K copies.

Will be small sales spread across lots of formats, but Guardian's numbers aren't up yet.

I meant EDF, not Cars. But like you said, Guardian will show the split if any.

Glad to see Zelda hanging on there; numbers are low, but this is true for all games, so being the 12th best selling game is a mark in any case.

Inazuma Eleven in Italy is continuing to sell well! Very happy about it.
Nintendo of Italy is quite aggressive when it comes to advertise and promote its products. I remember the first Layton game was advertised many times during one of the most popular events in the country (Sanremo Festival), where usually a commercial passage costs barely € 100.000.

None, but he probably means that concidering the Top 40 number all around are pretty low and only one 3DS game charts, it shows that the 3DS games sells pretty low. Older games like Sims and Football Manager reappear within the Top 40 due to the low numbers, but no 3DS games.

Last week Dream Trigger was released, but it didnt even make it within the 3DS Top 10. Probably not the most profiled game though, but still.

I think that's pretty much to be expected; similar situation in Japan and USA. More established formats will weather the economic storm much better due to discounts and price cuts and an established user base.

Furthermore, the 3DS is not really substantially new unlike the transition from GBA to DS. There's also the issue of the consolidation of smartphone gaming chipping away at the handheld gaming casual base.

In the case of the Wii, the console and controllers and Mario Kart Wii and Wii Sports can be purchased for £100 and extra controllers for not that much more and it will suffice for the whole family. Compare that to 3DS which is £180 odd without a game and really only good for one person at a time. The difference is pretty obvious to even the most casual consumers.

Slow periods affect all games (except Zumba Wii, apparently), so I don't see why 3DS should be expected to perform relatively better (compared to other systems) during these periods than during high selling weeks. More 3DS games charting due to a slow period would require other systems to fall into a slump while 3DS sales stayed the same as in a non-slump.

Surprised to see Call of Juarez entering so high. I really don't like what I see and hear about that game.

Quoting both since i have the same answer to both quotes.

Sure, i'm not really expecting the 3DS to do great right now, and i'm not expecting it to not slow down like other systems do (although 3DS is a pretty new system). I just think that Opus Angelorum ment that seeing how few 3DS games that chart in Top 40 when the overall sales are so low, it is a good indicator to see how the 3DS sales is doing right now, which looks to be very poor unfortunately. There might be fully legit reasons for it (i.e lack of mass market software), but it doesnt look like the sales are strong right now.

I need to know how much Inazuma Eleven has sold since launch. Doesn't look like a failure, despite the stealth release.

But again, no sales are strong right now. The sole exception seems to be Zumba Wii.

Exactly.

In a week with very little in the way of releases and very low numbers across the board, it shows how badly the software is selling.

True, however the majority of software manages to hang around for a while. With such low numbers, to not see any 3DS entry (besides Zelda) make a showing is telling.

It tells us that Zelda has been the only significant release in a while. But then, we already knew that.

There are 10 new releases and 9 titles that have climbed the chart, your suggestion that software isn't selling is incorrect.

During the last 2-3 weeks we have seen "unknown" games enter the Top 40 again, which is most likely because the general sales have been slow. But even in these times, no 3DS games made it within the Top 40 again (except Zelda, but that game havnt left Top 40 yet). Seeing that old PC games like Sims 3 expansion and Football Manager suddently makes it back into the Top 40, one might wonder how low the other 3DS software sale is.

EDIT: This isnt a doom & gloom post about 3DS sales. I just mean that it can be an indication to see how the 3DS software sales is.

Zelda at 12th place is less than twice the sales of a place outside the top 40.

You can tell this by looking at the All Formats chart, where Zelda is outsold by Red Dead Redemption, which doesn't appear in the other chart for either platform. All the sales must be very close together, and presumably low all round.

Holy shit!
Just saw the new 3DS advert, its obviously made to address all the complaints here.
Makes it crystal clear that its higher spec new hardware, and finishes with the tagline "this isn't DS, this is 3DS".

Wonder if it'll bump the sales in the coming weeks.

Is it on YouTube?
I would like to see it :p

"this isn't PSP, this is PSPgo"

still not very convincing

Well, Nintendo made it hard for themselves after DSlite, DSi and DSXL. And now 3DS.

I don't even know what you're trying to say here. When I said that Zelda has been the only significant release in a while I obviously meant only significant 3DS release, and software overall is not selling well right now since that's the reason we're having this conversation.

Here's the fallacy. Unless 3DS games were less affected by the slow period than other games, they are not more likely to chart during a slow period than during a stronger period. It's not a matter of "normal 3DS sales" vs "slow period other system sales", but "slow period 3DS sales" vs "slow period other system sales".
