Pantherlotus, can we do something about your pie charts? They are sooooooooooo ugly.

Yeah I know. The tilted pie option unfortunately doesn't have AA to make it look smoother, and those logos look much worse than they used to my first couple weeks. And looking at it again, the giant blue and red titles are pretty visually offensive too.

I'll see what I can do.

Bump that baby up to FULL 1080p HIGH DEFINTION and we'll be fine. I want to see bumpmapped lettering, normal mapped numbering, and crystal clear colors for each data item.

Make it happen.

He's a pretty swell guy in my books anyway.
I think YIDS will barely make it to million seller status just like FFIII and L&B.

This is one of those situations that make Famitsu undercounting a game annoying (and conversely, why MC providing only the top 10 also sucks).

I think Famitsu's undertracked the game by 60K or so.

Nope, people are still using the same lines for the DS' success. "What only 3 third party million sellers in the japanese market? Third parties don't sell on nintendo hardware confirmed!"

Seeing the Saturn sell a million before the PS3 is amusing for some reason. Maybe because it actually deserved to.

Layton and Ouendan 2 sales are amazing. Very impressive for both. Is there any official news regarding Layton 2 release date?

Probably, but Saturn still got their first, and there's no signs of sales slowing down. Sega's magnitude of hardware dominance won't be changing for a long time.

Did you know that disco record sales were up 400% for the year ending 1976? If these trends continues... AAY!

What are you smoking? PS2 sold one million in a matter of a few days.

Yeh, but the Saturn was able to beat that not just be hours but by years. I knew Sega were right to release first.

And at the same time, PS2 sales are currently on the decline and Saturn sales have been remarkably stable for years.

Sega Mega Drive sold a million before Wii too :p No wonder Saturn sold a million before PS2 when Saturn was released like 5-6 years before PS2.

EDIT: I guess my sarcasm meter is broken? :\

Yeah that's really annoying, remember WInd Waker numbers? they were like 130000 down

Though it's long said and over with, I'd like to bring up a small quote and smile. I twill forever be my tag:

"Based on the typical front-line retail price for Wii titles, we estimate that publishers need to sell approximately 300,000 units per title to break even. In contrast, we estimate that breakeven units for front-line Xbox 360 and PS3 titles are in the 600,000-unit range, or at least double the Wii's break even level."

Wait, what does the Wii's break-even point have to do with the DS's break-even point? Surely you aren't suggesting they are the same?

"Vinnk's Village" Anecdotal Report

Sorry to be late again guys. I was in Nagasaki for the weekend and didn’t have any Internet access. Next week should be back on the regular schedule.

This week I was asked to look for: Wii, DS lite, Zelda: Phantom Hourglass, Donkey Kong Jet Hajime no Ippo. I went Thursday July 5th, 2007:

Jusco
Wii: Sold out
DS lite: 6 (old colors)
Zelda PH: Sold out
DK Jet: 3
Hajime no Ippo: 2

Youme Town
Wii: Sold out
DS lite: 5 (old colors)
Zelda PH: Sold out
DK Jet: 4
Hajime no Ippo: 2

Mr. Max
Wii: 1
DS lite: 2 (old colors)
Zelda PH: Sold out
DK Jet: 1
Hajime no Ippo: 1

Book-Net
Wii: Sold out
DS lite: 4 (old colors)
Zelda PH: Sold out
DK Jet: 1
Hajime no Ippo: 3

Goody
Wii: Sold out
DS lite: 4 (old colors)
Zelda PH: Sold out
DK Jet: never had it
Hajime no Ippo: never had it

Best Denki
Wii: Sold out
DS lite: 10 (old colors)
Zelda PH: Sold out
DK Jet: 6
Hajime no Ippo: 4

Wanpaku
Wii: Sold out
DS lite: 2 (old colors)
Zelda PH: Sold out
DK Jet: 5
Hajime no Ippo: 3

Famicom Dojo
Wii: Sold out
DS lite: 2 (old colors)
Zelda PH: Sold out
DK Jet: 1
Hajime no Ippo: 1

Yamada Denki
Wii: Sold out
DS lite: 7 (old colors)
Zelda PH: Sold out
DK Jet: 4
Hajime no Ippo: 2

TOTALS:
Wii: 1
DS lite: 43 (all old colors)
Zelda PH: Sold out
DK Jet: 25
Hajime no Ippo: 18

NOTES:

1. Wii is still very supply constrained. Any store that does have them doesn’t have them for long. I think I can copy and paste this statement until after Christmas.

2. The new colors of the DS lite are completely sold out. But DS lites in general can be found all over. The new colors are supply constrained but there are more DS lites on the shelves now than I have ever seen before.

3. Folks Soul is already available used.

4. Zelda is sold out everywhere. I am not sure if they sold out a second shipment or if it is still just sold out from last week. In any event, Nintendo needs to get more new copies out before used copies start hitting the shelves.

5. The advertising blitz for Dragon Quest Swords has started. There are posters up at all stores and special kiosks. The level of advertising is less than a main series DQ or Final Fantasy game (of course) but higher than I ever recall seeing for a spin-off. Here is the kiosk at Wanpaku.

6. Hiro at Famicom Dojo isn’t taking pre-orders for Dragon Quest Swords because he doesn't think he will be able to get any copies at launch. Since his store is small he is low on the pecking order for getting new games. And it seems that retailer demand is greater than supply. If that translates into actual buyer demand, then this game could be huge.

Previous Reports:

June 7th, 2007
May 30th, 2007

Thanks a lot Vinnk- Myself and I think a lot of others are very interested in how DQ:Swords is going to do- on the ground reports like these are awesome.

Yup, thanks Vinnk. Yeah, it's going to be very interesting to see how DQ sells.

Hey, do you think Wanpaku had enough images of DQ:Swords?

o_O

They actually had the trailor playing on 3 different TVs. It was playing on the Wii kiosk, one of the DS kioks and the one in the picture which is normally a PS2 kiosk.

Personally, I find it weird that the largest single character image on the kiosk is FFXII:RW's Penelo.

Oh, that was on the TV itself. The video was cyclying through all the new Square Enix trailers. The other 2 Kiosks had only the Swords trailors.

Can any big-city Japan Gaffers tell me if Zelda is sold out there too? My city is often slow to get restocked, so I am wondering if the sell out is Japan wide or if my city is an anomaly.

Nice report on Wii, DSL (old color vs. new color) and Folks Soul.

Nice report on Zelda. Shouldn't you be able to ask Hiro whether he get second shipment or not ? Even though his store is small, he might be able to tell things.

Nice picture of kiosk. It will be better if you get the picture of the other two that only DQ Swords. I could not wait to hear the early impression of Japanese GAFers this week. I hope DQ Swords sell well, so SE will be even more commited to Wii (since I haven't bought PS3 yet).

How small is Hiro's store ? can you give an estimate based on the size ? (using square feet or square meter).
