Reservations for GT6 were similar to GT5: 121k / 115k (go comgnet). The game sold only to the dedicated fanbase this time.

Wow, I'm really surprised at Daigasso Band Brothers P... I mean, it had a pretty week start, and it looks like it's not having any legs at all, unlike the usual Nintendo games on 3DS, which end up staying in the Top 20 for quite a while before disappearing.

What's wrong? How much did the previous game sell? I think someone already posted the numbers before, but my memory can be sloppy sometimes...

Anyway, Gaist Crusher really bombed. And the Mario & Sonic game too, just like in the West. Looks like the Wii U might very well be the end of the series, it just can't do anything without the casual crowd.

Like wow! Six months in the charts. I'm guessing it'll finish up with six figure sales.

The game is super average with an unnecessary song purchase system and probably has less enthusiastic word of mouth than most first party titles.

The expansion still needs the original game if I understand correctly, no? So as long as there are no new big sales for the original there are no new Wii U owners in this.

If they're upgraders from the Wii, most sales would probably again be digital, as they were at launch. DQX has also been consistently in the top 3 best selling eShop games, back to #1 over 3D World since the expansion released. Of course you wouldn't need a lot of sales to become #1 on Wii U eShop in the first place.

I think it might have contributed a little but most should just be general holiday bump.

But does the song purchase system really matter that much? I mean, aren't most people making their own songs anyway? I thought that was the main appeal of the software.

In other news, starting next year, I'm going to have a "Leg-o-meter" set up : basically, each week, I check if a game is in Media Create's Top 20 (50, maybe?), and put it an excel file. Point is to check how much "legs" a game got. I'm also including release date and total sales.

Not really scientific or anything, I'm just doing that out of curiosity.

There's like three songs available on the game card. Of course it matters. Even with 100 free songs you have to request the currency to buy them as it's not automatically given to you. Being compulsory online is ridiculous and the game has deserved its weak sales.

Wow at P&DZ. Could it be 3DS' Christmas surprise? I thought Pocket Monster Hunter X/Y would dominate.
I think it depends on what people expected. P&D is arguably one of the biggest gaming IPs in Japan right now, and several of people were predicting that the 3DS game would sell at least a million copies. I'm wondering how much effect it will have on the 3DS hardware sale.

Quite off topic but is this going to be translated to English? I remember the game being way too slow on the PS2 but maybe it will work as a phone game.

I don't think so as the framerate on those video's is quite atrocious and i think even wore then the PS2 version.

Two copies sold? That's not a bomb guys, stop trolling!!!
The DQVIII page updated again. Now it says between 10,000 and 50,000. Now, given how it sold between 5,000 and 10,000 digital copies in its first 26-28 hours, I don't think the game is so bigger than 10,000 now.

I didn't know that the Google Play site provides data like this, that's quite nice.

Wish iTunes would provide similar data.

So far, it seems DQVIII on Android isn't doing well at all, but FFIV: The After Years cratered badly. It came out on December 4th, and since then just 5,000-10,000 installations?

iTunes is preferred in Japan because I believe sales are better there. Looks decent to me for a lot of remakes, but I don't know the price.
So I found this site: http://de.xyo.net/iphone/

It has a database of every App (Android & iOS) and it show the global download sales too.

But I have no idea how they compile the data.

I doesn't tell us much though in actual sales .

Simply stating something sold between 10.000 and a 50.000 leaves a big hole to predict where it is currently at .

it could be at 11.000 sales or it could be 45.000 currently .

There are millions of applications, I don't think they do this manually, it's impossible.

But how do they get this data.

We have Aquamarine's data on that front.

Profit wise they seem comparable to higher performing XBLA titles when I ran the base calculations, which doesn't seem bad for what are largely ROM dumps:

Please note, the following are ESTIMATES based off of publisher-vouched algorithms and not real-time sales data. The margin of error for estimates is AT MOST 20%.

This is intended solely to give you a general idea of how sales may look:

Chaos Rings estimates:

Chaos Rings for iPhone: 404,000 (worldwide), $8.99 (originally $12.99)
Chaos Rings II for iPhone: 102,000 (worldwide), $15.99 (originally $17.99)
Chaos Rings Ω for iPhone: 87,000 (worldwide), $8.99 (originally $11.99)

Chaos Rings for iPad: 93,000 (worldwide), $11.99 (originally $15.99)
Chaos Rings II for iPad: 61,000 (worldwide), $16.99 (originally $19.99)
Chaos Rings Ω for iPad: 34,000 (worldwide), $11.99 (originally $14.99)

Chaos Rings for Android: 104,000 (worldwide), $8.22
Chaos Rings II for Android: 17,000 (worldwide), $14.38
Chaos Rings Ω for Android: 51,000 (worldwide), $8.22

Again, real-time sales differ from these estimates, but not so significantly that they aren't worth mentioning.

Real-time sales data:

Chaos Rings: >400,000 downloads (all SKUs, worldwide) as of May 21st, 2011

Chaos Rings for Android (worldwide): 100,000 - 500,000
Chaos Rings II for Android (worldwide): 10,000 - 50,000
Chaos Rings Ω for Android (worldwide): 10,000 - 50,000

Estimates for Final Fantasy:

Final Fantasy for iPhone: 442,000 (worldwide), $8.99
Final Fantasy II for iPhone: 235,000 (worldwide), $8.99
Final Fantasy III for iPhone: 252,000 (worldwide), $15.99
Final Fantasy IV for iPhone: 181,000 (worldwide), $15.99
Final Fantasy V for iPhone: 91,000 (worldwide), $15.99

Final Fantasy III for iPad: 161,000 (worldwide), $16.99
Final Fantasy IV for iPad: 95,000 (worldwide), $15.99
Final Fantasy V for iPad: 44,000 (worldwide), $15.99

Final Fantasy for Android: 27,000 (worldwide), $8.22
Final Fantasy II for Android: 19,000 (worldwide), $8.22
Final Fantasy III for Android: 254,000 (worldwide), $14.38
Final Fantasy IV for Android: 65,000 (worldwide), $18.49

Real-time sales data:

Final Fantasy for Android (worldwide): 10,000 - 50,000
Final Fantasy II for Android (worldwide): 10,000 - 50,000
Final Fantasy III for Android (worldwide): 100,000 - 500,000
Final Fantasy IV for Android (worldwide): 50,000 - 100,000
Final Fantasy V for Android (worldwide): 10,000 - 50,000

So, any ideas on this site: http://de.xyo.net/iphone/

Hope it's not the Chartzzz of apps (lol).

Some data for the Apple Store:

Deus Ex: The Fall (iPhone): 395.000
Final Fantasy IV (iPhone): 241.000
Secret of Mana (iPhone): 161.000
Chrono Trigger (iPhone): 128.000

But this seems in line:

Chaos Rings: 421.000 -----> Aquamarine had it at 404.000 (October 2013)
Chaos Rings II: 108.000 -----> Aquamarine had it at 102.000 (October 2013)
Chaos Rings Ω: 90.000 -----> Aquamarine had it at 87.000 (October 2013)

Yeah for ROM dumps those are very fine figures. I think the moment they start putting effort is only when those results would be bad. Like DQVIII would still likely be profitable in the long run.

Square-Enix now seems up for transferring the content usually made for DS/PSP to smartphones so those will be more interesting to watch. Doesn't seem like Chaos Rings did well past the first game, though.

While on the smartphone topic, here is what Square Enix's CEO said about smartphones in the most recent issue of Famitsu.

Siliconera said:
“Smartphones aren’t mainly used to exclusively play games, but there are many who enjoy them [on those devices],” replies Matsuda. “The Dragon Quest series are games that can easily be enjoyed by just about anyone, so we’d like to do just that, and have as many people as possible play it. With that in mind, I believe that it’s only natural to expand towards smartphones. Again, smartphone capabilities have increased, so they no longer have any problems playing games from those series, and we’ve also decided to expand now that these devices are booming.”

“Of course, I believe that it’s important to release our content for smartphones as they continue spreading [in popularity],” responds Matsuda. “Not just ports of games, but for example, the Final Fantasy series has Final Fantasy Agito in development for smartphones. For other franchises, too, we’re thinking about working on past titles and new ones [for phones].”

“Also, not just limited to smartphones, but we’re putting consideration into the type of games and their target audience, as we decide on the platform,” Matsuda continues. “Again, I feel that we also need to add more original titles for smartphones. Similar to Kaku-san-sei Million Arthur, if it becomes a hit on smartphones, then there’s a chance we may also release it for consoles, too.”

I feel it's notable that Chaos Rings Sigma switched over to an f2p model, and Type-0 -> Agito is doing the same.

It seems to match up with their plan to switch the business model for titles they're creating ground up to match the platform better, whereas it's harder to convert an old game as anything except a lump sum without doing more work.

Interesting, so that would seem like they weren't too satisfied with Chaos Rings 2 and changed their business model into a F2P one for the series. Surprised they never tried a port to dedicated platforms though. Still, I wonder how that switch up worked out for them.

And as for the second part, man, give me strength if DQXI becomes an exclusive on mobiles. F2P DQ is a scary thought.

Hmm, FFIV isn't that far off either, especially if it had a sale recently.

Perhaps someone who knows might be able to weigh in, but this is potentially quite an interesting find.
So, the data for the page is provided by a german company that specialises itself on the mobile market.

Seems quite good.

The only thing that seems off is the low Angry Birds number on iPhone. :p

Anyway, this seems like our best source currently. Time for a new Sales-Age subcategory. :p

Edit:
I downloaded one of their reports and it seems this is the same source Aquamarine used. ;)

Priori app and publisher rankings are based on our proprietary app download estimation technology, which we have been iterating since 2010. Our technology uses sophisticated statistical regression models and is based exclusively on publicly available information.

We use no proprietary developer data to compile our reports, and it is natural for our estimates to contain a margin of error.
Based on feedback received from our partners and customers, at the individual app level nearly 80% of the apps contained in our database are estimated within 20% of their actual numbers. Smaller apps (fewer than 10,000 total downloads), particularly those which have recently entered the app stores, may bear a larger margin of error.

As our estimatesareaggregated up to the publisher, category, platform, and country levels, the error margin decreases to approximately 5%.
Wemake monthly corrections to our models, and are committed to providing a high quality, fully independent viewof the app economy.

To be honest my current expectation is either:
1.) 3DS followed by iOS/Android ~6-12 months down the road.
2.) 3DS/iOS/Android multiplat a la what Level 5 does these days.

I leaned very heavily on option 1 historically, but they are putting out a lot of Dragon Quest on iOS all the sudden, and their CEO was very "We need to make changes right now." in one of their interviews, so 2 is seeming progressively more plausible to me.

For Chaos Rings Sigma, there's a bunch of info here: http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=680197

Including the trailer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-kCP-h0L1lc&feature=youtu.be

It was delayed until 2014, so I suspect they have at least moderately high hopes for this, or they would have just put it out as is.

They did actually have a Chaos Rings 1 port to Vita via PlayStation mobile IIRC, and seeing something like this show up on more platforms (as an f2p game still) doesn't seem overly implausible given Matsuda's statement about "we might port successful games over".

So, the data for the page is provided by a german company that specialises itself on the mobile market.

Yeah this definitely sounds promising.

This game won't sell neither half of XIII-2. Better luck next time Square.

With the amount os musou games launching and undeperforming lately New Gundam Musou likely goes for another drop.

I hope you are not serious. As much as I hate SAO, it is a big series currently in Japan and many of the fanbase overlap with video gamers due to the nature of the story, all with strong following. If GGO/SAO S2 announced for spring, expected it to break 500k sales in first week. Although such blockbuster anime usually reserved for summer slot.

Give it some time, I honestly believe the console will sell purely on tech/price/hype alone for at least 6 month (40-45k/week, with a strong launch of 600k or so) and will get third party announcements every other week starting Feb.

I dunno mang, Gravity Daze 2 might surprise people.

Took a look in this thread. So many illusions.

At least January will land some people back to reality for Wii U and the potential this console suddenly has.

Kinda shocked that High School DxD is coming out on 3DS of all platforms. You think Vita would fit that kind of show perfectly with the touchpad and everything lol. Well its not like 3DS doesn't get M-rated titles,

Mostly because 3DS gets most of the mainstream anime games whereas Vita gets most of the niche otaku. I imagine Highschool DxD is trying to transition itself from one to the other.

Well Senran Kagura was successful on both handhelds so it isn't particularly clear where that kind of title should go I guess.

lol DxD ain't mainstream.

Sword Art Online is though :p

Seriously though your mixing genres. 3DS seems to get more shounen stuff, like OP, AoT DBZ(??) and Vita seems to get the harem stuff lol.

What I don't get is why Japanese publishers are averse to multiplats? Games with heavy coop focus makes sense a la Monster Hunter. But here somwonw expressed surpirse at DxD being 3DS instead of Vita. Why not both?

I was always confused why Gamecube never got more multiplats with PS2, and wonder why there aren't many more 3DS/Vita games. As far as I'm aware it's just visual novels.

I mean mean Senran Kagura was 3DS, but then Shinovi Versus was Vita. Instead of splitting your audience between 2 platforms why not share them by releasing all the games on each platform?

Highschool dxd is attempting to transition itself. is what I said not that it was. It's already greenlit a third season, that alone is beyond the normal harem anime from light novel conversion. Simply getting a second is typically considered a success.

Nintendo is releasing Kirby, Fossil Fighters, and who know if something else in the beginning of the year...
And Mario Party still without release date... Maybe they keep that game for the golden week?

Yeah I admit being deluded at that time, I will eat my crow today.

Searched it, turned up nothing. He might mistaken there with something else. No wonder since harem anime barely have personality lol

I think you're mistaking otaku for niche. Otaku stuff can be pretty successful. I mean it has Dress Break Battle System for gods sake. That just screams otaku. I'd say this fits in the same category as Oreimo.

Kinda unrelated but according to that xyo site Bloodmasque has 97k downloads on the iOS. The thing costs 6 euro (not including any promotion). So altogether Square made 582k euro from the game. I wonder if that game payed for itself.

Wait what? Serious?

Harem anime are 99/100 incredibly bad and just watching them is insulting to your intelligence as a human being.

I think the most popular one right now is Bakemonogatari followed by Oreimo (lol). They still sell well but they are not mainstream just have a dedicated and somewhat questionable fanbase.

Its very successful and popular for a LN. Not Sword Art Online level. But the Blu-rays sold well I believe. Also very popular as a harem series. Thats why I'm surprised that the 3DS is getting it. But then again its different in Japan where the 3DS audience is everyone vs NA/EU where the main audience is kids mostly. Probably because Nintendo has that image of being the kid friendly platform in my eyes.

Still a part of me hoped that the game would be on Vita so I could import it. But looking at previews, it doesn't look all that great as a card game. Missed opportunity to use the touchpad on the Vita for all the females in the series lol Maybe the next game if this one is successful.

They are bad, but they still sell. Just look at how much harem LN got anime adaptation and have at least one merchandise figure while the one like Mushishi just only got 1-hour special.

But dude, with 3DS you can touch them (like) in 3D!

Two copies sold? That's not a bomb guys, stop trolling!!!

I suppose Yoshi could occupy March spot, while Mario Party releases in April like Mario Party 9.

I wouldn't call Bakemonogatari harem.
