Media Create Sales: Week 49, 2013 (Dec 02 - Dec 08)

I disagree. The announced titles coming to Wii U moving forward are stronger than the ones coming to Vita.

Super mario 3d world didn't even have a bigger opening than miku, p4g, toukiden ect. and Mario is much bigger than those. Wouldn't surprise me if Phantasy Star did bigger numbers than smash bros(wiiu) and mario kart.

Mario is NOT bigger than Mario Kart and Smash Bros.

I believe it will have a bigger ending than those games.

Give it some time, I honestly believe the console will sell purely on tech/price/hype alone for at least 6 month (40-45k/week, with a strong launch of 600k or so) and will get third party announcements every other week starting Feb.

Do you really think there are more than a million of western games fans in Japan? If you have a PS3, you don't have any reason to upgrade. Crossgen Yakuza, crossgen MGS, FFXV and KH3 are not 2014 titles, Tales of will stay on PS3, Persona 5 will stay on PS3, most niche titles are going to stay in PS3.

IMO It will sell around 300.000 units first week, around 50.000 units second week and then drop to 10-20k until Christmas, with a small bump (maybe) the week Ground Zeroes is released.

If you only play Japanese titles, there is zero reason to upgrade. Yakuza looks almost identical in PS3, Lily Bergamo is a Grasshopper title, so it'll bomb. Dinasty Warriors doesn't drive sales. Natural Doctrine is a low budget SRPG. And there is FFXIV and Deep Down (Capcom F2P) beta.

And there is not Ridge Racer.
I hate you Bamco T.T
It may not sell that good, but still no Ridge Racer in a PS launch is sad :(

MH4G is assuredly coming, and presumably an Ace Attorney game, though I'll be interested to see what else (besides those two series) follows.

They're putting them all on mobile.

Would it surprise you if MH4G actually released on android/ios and possibly even w8 with cross platform play between all of them? Or if before MH4G they released MH4 on mobiles? They did use the MH4 money to invest on their dedicated mobile division so it wouldn't surprise me to see them put a mainline MH game on mobile.

Phantasy Star?
Where did that come from? Some sorta autocorrect error?

So nearly everyone with the Wii U version of the game got the expansion on the 1st week o_O? Is the expansion required to continue the game or something?

If not, it looks like Square-Enix has a loyal DQX following on the Wii U.

What exactly is the story on upgrading? Can you have the original Wii game and upgrade to the Wii U version? I wonder how much Square Enix will send as a second shipment. Do people think it's that they just shipped a perfect amount? Or that there's more demand than the first shipment here?

Too much money to risk. They may make a port of the 3DS game for it but it won't be exclusive, Capcoms financials simply aren't good enough to endanger there largest money maker like that.

Even then it's extremely iffy. Unlike normal rpgs, monster certainly isn't a game suited for touch screens at least not in it's current form, hence why it's mobile versions aren't as popular as it's handheld versions.

Chances are they'll keep mainline MH on the 3DS they simply won't bother with anything else.

It's free falling with around 550k shipped day one, the LTD might be respectable but that's not the whole story, especially for a multi platform title.

It's something like Kingdom Hearts 3D.

KH didn't come anywhere near its predecessors sales, GE2 will outsell GE and Burst. The situations are not comparable at all.

To be accurate, if you're adding up the Wii and Wii U version, you might as well count every version of each iteration.
Otherwise, the fact this entry has been incredibly destructive to the franchise might be lost or attenuated.

Eh destructive is kinda a bit much. The game makes money from subscriptions, it may end up being the most profitable game in the lot, like it was with final fantasy.

Also to compare Brawl vs. Mario Kart Wii vs. the Galaxy game sales on the Wii...

Brawl First Week: 819,647
Mario Kart Wii First Week: 593,576
Super Mario Galaxy (Nov 1, 2007) First Week: 250,585

What were the Japanese LTDs for all these games? I remember Galaxy struggled to hit a million right?

DQ10 for the Wii U is 200K+ when you include digital. The expansion sells prove this.

Sad to see GT6 low, but I don't think I've seen a PS3 bump like that in a while.
Why Vita bump with no software? Holidays?
Wii U damn! That makes me happy.

I don't think it's too risky if they port MH4 to android/ios/w8 to test the waters first. The cost would be minimal and they could see how the market reacts. The game would obviously support controller so it would be played better that way, but touch only on phones is required per apple (and probably google), so that would be a poor way for people to play if they wanted. It's less of an issue on 7+ inch tablets, but on phones it really is a big issue. Furthermore they could have cross platform play between the mobile devices, reaching a wider audience.

Stronger in what sense?

Quality? Sure, because they are Nintendo first party.
But outside of Nintendo's first party output for the console, what's left for the WiiU?

SE can't keep pumping out DQX expansion packs.

Nintendo's first party content alone is stronger in both quality potential and sales potential than what the Vita is offering in 2014 so far.

People may not decide to buy 3DS versions. Seriously this is the same company that didn't bother to do a port to the Vita. If they cared about that sort of thing it wouldn't have been exclusive to the 3DS as long as it has (or at all).

They have something to gain by keeping it 3DS exclusive precisely their reasoning no one knows but there's certainly a reason. Which is why I doubt we'll see a mainline on ios etc for a while. I expect it'll happen when the sales on the handhelds start to slow down not before.

Mario kart and Smash bros are strong individual titles but the wiiU has nothing to fill the gaps. Their confirmed 2014 lineup for Japan is around eight games and includes stuff like Yarn Yoshi that hasn't been mentioned in almost a year. Vita has a a decent selection of titles that will sell well (PS, Jump vs., Miku 2nd) while also having titles to release on a week to week basis.

I dunno mang, Gravity Daze 2 might surprise people.
I don't think there's any prayer of such a "surprise". If you believe it, that's on you, but Vita is going to get clobbered this holiday season, then clobbered again in the New Year when Nintendo's heavy hitters release.

Oh yeah, I don't know their costs and how much they've made so I wouldn't presume on profitability. It could even be their most profitable entry ever for all I know.

My point was more about mindshare/relevance of the series. It's a very mainstream series and I feel the genre/platform choice was definitely destructive in that area. It seems kind of sad to me as I've always liked the notion of everyone, of every age and gender, freaking out when a new game releases.

Two copies sold? That's not a bomb guys, stop trolling!!!

But...why such urgency? The game's selling shitloads of copies on 3DS already, on iOS / tablets it would certainly be a premium priced app, which doesn't translate too many times in being successful, and with serious problems in adapting controls, much more than for classic RPGs. There's no need for that, seriously. It could actually have a negative effect on the brand as a whole, now.

Nice to see that Galaxy 2 got over a million in Japan. Doesn't that mean relatively SMG2 did better than 1 in Japan? It's really rare to see the sales of the second game on a console nearly reach the sales of the first.

Refer to this:

Sorry if people don't want to hear the truth, but if it jumps like Mario, looks like Mario, and talks like Mario, then it's a Mario (so to speak). These sales are disappointing. Encouraging, but ultimately disappointing. The spark of optimism reminds me of how Vita owners like Dave got excited when Vita had decent bumps only to get back in its coffin the next week.
Yeah, cause ONE comment is evidence of a general pattern.

What really happened is Wii U did decent numbers for once, people were not expecting the bump, you felt some type of way about the numbers, and you honked the horn on the doom train. You're really transparent, man. Give it a rest.

Yeah everyone and there mothrs are aware it'll drop like a rock when the holidays are over, but a good holiday is a good holiday. it's the only real advantage it ouside of strong first party titles it has in regards to platforms like the Vit (which generally doesn't really have good holidays, so far).

It's a shame Nintendo doesn't think they need third parties because post holidays Wii U will return to the crypt it just escaped.
