It's been what, a year now? People need to accept the fact that it's going to be one game a week from here on in. Yes, I'm sure there will be exceptions like the C64 launch. But for the most part, I think this thread will benefit if the following points are just assumed:

1) Nintendo will release one VC game per week
2) We are all grumpy about it
I'm pretty sure 1 is begrudgingly accepted now because we are 2.

Whoa there, those are rated not released.

Also, Drake or anyone else do we know why there is no Summer Games 1 and they just skipped to 2?
I think I read somewhere that there was an issue with the first game similar to Mario Party (It was impossible to do something without hurting your hands), so they probably didn't want to change it.

Now that's a game we need to see on the service. How have the Mario Party games not been released yet on VC?

Pretty sure it has to do with the thumb stick spinning minigames, which sucks because that fishing game from one is one of the best minigames ever created.

The Wiiware adventure island soundtrack isnt being done by the Super Adventure Island/ Streets of Rage series composer is it? Not sure if the trailer music is from the game.

Nintendo had to issue a special glove for Mario Party because so many people were getting blisters. I don't think they want a repeat of that. They'd have to alter the game, which means it's probably of low priority.

Bit.Trip Beat looks like a lot of fun and will be my first WiiWare download since Mega Man 9. :D

Please be good. Please, please don't pull a Gyrostarr. D:

In other news, Nintendo has yet to make me care about the Commodore 64.

You should try out the Art Style games instead, they're similarly high-concept games for 600 points but they aren't as content starved and don't take up half your fridge.

My favorite C64-exclusive game is an EA property (Ultimate Wizard) so I'll never be satisfied with VC's treatment of the system.

In fact most of my C-64 time was spent with arcade ports and those certainly aren't going to happen.

The only c64 game I ever played was a game where you're exploring a world of mother goose nursery rhymes, so I'm pretty sure that won't be coming out.

Downloaded Bit.Trip Beat immediately on faith, but WiiWare so far is a 5/8 "hit" ratio with me--and keep in mind that I'm nice enough to consider Family Table Tennis worthwhile even though I only played it for about half an hour and don't particularly care to play it again. We'll see how this one turns out.

Only have to go backward to as far as October 2008 backwards to find faster releases.

People need to accept the fact that it's going to be one game a week from here on in. Yes, I'm sure there will be exceptions like the C64 launch. But for the most part, I think this thread will benefit if the following points are just assumed:

I assume it and I'm still here.

And I see no reason to prioritize what benefits this thread over what benefits this service. If you'd like to give up all hope of ever having a swifter release schedule, then go ahead, but I'll continue believing that Nintendo is capable of doing better and should. It probably annoys serious VC fans a lot more to see the releases each week than it annoys anyone in here to have to skip past a couple more posts in the morning.

Edit: Forgot about this post:

OK, just checked Hudson's website and they still have Bomberman '94 & Detana Twinbee listed for March. Which means that one of the following three scenarios occur:

1.) Both games are released on either March 23rd or March 30th (15% chance)
2.) One title is released March 23rd while the other hits March 30th (25% chance)
3.) One or both titles are inexplicably delayed into April or beyond (60% chance)

The casino is accepting wagers starting now! :p
Yeah, I thought about this as soon as I saw today's release. And I'm in for 3. :(

That said, even I wouldn't see 1 as being out of the question--they're both imports and I don't think we've yet had a week of only one import game. Sin and Punishment + SMB: Lost Levels, or Gley Lancer + Super Fantasy Zone, or Star Parodier + Break In, or DoReMi Fantas"y" Haven't You Downloaded This Yet Go Get It Right Now + Puyo Puyo 2... They come in pairs.

Edit: Checked and Ninja JaJaMaru-kun is the lone instance of only having one import. (It did come with another non-import game, though.) Otherwise it's all been the pairs I mentioned along with Bio Miracle Bokutte Upa/Dig Dug, Final Soldier/Cho Aniki, and Gradius II/Digital Champ.

Option #1 certainly isn't completely farfetched. I'd have to go through my notes, but I'm pretty sure there has never been a solitary TurboGrafx-16 release week either. Now, that may just be because there have been a limited amount of TG-16 titles during the periods when single release weeks predominated, but then again . . . if you put a gun to my head and forced me to wager $100, I think I'd go with scenario one over scenario two actually.

Okay, my first thought on Bit.Trip Beat is that if the first stage is any indication, I simultaneously love and hate the length. It takes right around fifteen minutes for the first stage, which is great for an arcade game and yet really, really bizarre for a rhythm game. On one hand, it's excellent that if the game was only going to have "three songs," at least they're not three-minute bursts and then that's it. On the other, anyone who can hone their reflexes to a point of managing fifteen consecutive minutes of no-misses, though I'm sure it'll be done eventually, is a true master of gaming.

I don't think IGN's review went quite far enough, if the next two stages are any similar: that first one could have been broken up not into two songs, but even into as many as four. Levels lasting three minutes and forty-five seconds sounds right on par, yes? I already have my suspicions that Bit.Trip Beat would also be a bit more replayable if it were broken up that way.

I wish they would have included a VS. mode like pong. I still like the game though. And I agree that more short levels are better than 3 long ones. Where was this game 5 years ago when I ate candy. Double stacked goodness!

If all DLC came tied to $13 figurines, I'd consider all DLC to be free
News: Gameloft To Bring 2 To DSiWare In Europe

Gameloft, a mobile developer who have made one hell of an impact on the WiiWare service with six titles released to date (and more to come later this year), are officially expanding their operations to Nintendo's upcoming DSiWare service, which is set to launch alongside the new Nintendo DSi console on April 3rd.

A little snooping on the PEGI website on our part reveals that Gameloft are planning to bring two titles to DSiWare in the form of Pop Superstar: Road to Celebrity and Real Football 2009, with the former classified as a Simulation/Life Simulation game, and the latter obviously being a soccer game.

Pop Superstar: Road to Celebrity was previously a mobile game developed by Gameloft which allows you to create a pop sensation in waiting, and lead them through a reality TV show similar to the X Factor to achieve celebrity status. Expect lots of scribbly/shouty singing and dancing, and most likely a cynical virtual doppelganger for one Mr. Simon Cowell.

Real Football 2009
, also a game for mobile phones, is your standard footy affair. Pick from over 200 real-life teams to play the beautiful game in 6 different stadiums. The mobile title featured multiplayer via bluetooth, and allowed you to import create, train and import your own team from Real Football Manager Edition 2009. No news on whether either of these features will be present in the DSiWare version.

i think the rotating stick issue with mario party 1 is due to how the control stick is built on the n64 controllers.
if you have a n64 controller, a gc controller and a classic controller, try rotating the stick in all 3 and notice the difference. the n64 one is much harder to rotate well and produces much more resistance, which causes the blisters. the gc and cc sticks are much easier to rotate.

also, i found out recently that my mario party cart broke and i'd like to have it again. this is the first time a n64 cart dies on me and the second time a cart dies on me (first cart that died on me was GBC wario land 2 but that was by the time wario land 3 came out so i could rebuy it again easily. mario party came out 10 years ago...)

Real Football 2009 is such an odd choice... because GameLoft actually make a retail version in Europe, completely different to the mobile phone version:

Will it be the mobile phone version, or a retooling of the DS version they already have?

I'm glad I continued playing Paper Mario; I just started Chapter 3, and I'm enjoying myself very much. I have a question:

Which members of your party should be upgraded? I use Bombette the least, and I really want to use her more often, so should I go with her? Or will I regret it later? Are there enough upgrade blocks for all party members to upgrade evenly?

There's exactly enough blocks to upgrade everybody twice (Can't upgrade a second time until later). Bombette can deal lots of damage but her later special attacks cost a ton of FP, which might not be wise at this point of the game. I recommend upgrading chapter 3's new character ASAP though, you'll see why :D

Aww, I feel really bad when I don't use characters evenly. So far, Kooper's been my main man. His ability to damage all people on the field has been great, especially in Dry Dry Desert where a lot of enemies attack you at once. Poor Bombette.

Mixed-up Mother Goose? I don't think that came out for C64.

Really? Dang. I'm getting my old stuff confused. I was pretty sure I played that at my buddies on his C64. Most have been some other system. But, thanks for reminding me of the name.

You'll get some games next week though. Korogashi Puzzle Katamari Damacy has been confirmed and it seems like Sega will release Phantasy Star Zero Mini on there too.

Good article man, I too have noticed the lack of interest - I think it is the price mainly also Nintendo hasn't showed of DSiWare at all.

I never thought about comparisons to the App Store, but it does make a ton of sense.

So you can listen to music while you play DSi games off the SD card?

The ability to play some of my favorite DS games while listening to my podcasts and playlists is very appealing to me and of course, like the iTouch, I’ll be able to boot into any downloaded games I have on the SD card as well.

If they do this, it would be killer...and would be a huge draw for the DSi Shop.
I wouldn’t put it past Nintendo to offer some classic GameBoy games for purchase on their new digital store.

Not from what I can tell. Music playback will stop the moment you exit Nintendo DSi Sound. And I haven't seen any options for customized music in any of the DSiWare games I have.

From your blog post: "...and of course, like the iTouch, I'll be able to boot into any downloaded games I have on the SD card as well."

Source and link please? I've heard the exact opposite here. Unless something correspondingly changes after the Wii's much awaited spring FW update (which could end up being a disappointment), the DSi's SD slot is currently just a fridge and the only difference is it allows cards up to 32gb.

IGN's Nintendo Voice Chat confirmed there is no "run from SD" option on the DSi (if I remember correctly)... and it seems that the DSi has even less memory than the Wii does.

I think the hype is drained because of the high price. Here in Canada you can buy an Xbox 360 for the same exact price ($200).

Nintendo preps 'major app strategy' for DSi

Nintendo may publicly claim that it doesn't consider the likes of Apple's App Store and iPhone, or even the Google G1 phone and Android Marketplace, as competitors - but Develop understands the format holder is very much working on its own 'app strategy'.

Sources which attended the top-secret Nintendo Developer Conference in London this week have told us that Nintendo has a plan in place that will push developers towards producing short-form content for its new DSi handheld.

The device includes access to the DS Shop and DSi Ware, but instead of emphasising game downloads - as has been done with previously with Wii/WiiWare - Nintendo is encouraging developers to think about making shorter 'applications', both of a games and non-game variety for the DSi.
