Yeah, I think that this approach has been clear from Nintendo’s own offerings for DSiWare so far - they’ve put together a mix of small Art Style titles, bite-size chunks of retail games and Nintendo-themed applications. I wouldn’t be at all surprised if they were pushing devs in a similar direction, and for a device like the DS I think it’s the way to go (although the odd “full” game would be welcome as well)

interesting. i sort of wish they'd do a "zelda episodes" project or something, though--the first download comes with the overworld and a dungeon, and subsequent parts of the adventure are split into separate downloads you can purchase or no depending on your whim.

or something like that on wiiware. or hell, just dispose of the episode idea altogether and put out a retro zelda made by a small team. but that doesn't seem to be their interest at the moment, which is cool, i guess.

Confirmed by NoE: http://nintendo.co.uk/NOE/en_GB/news/2008/its_round_one_for_punch-out_for_wii_11779.html

For those who want to get into training for the upcoming Wii game, the Super NES sequel to Punch-Out! Super Punch-Out! will be available via Virtual Console from Friday 20 March!

Face your favourite opponents from the arcade and NES versions, along with a roster of all-new foes, on your way to the top of the WVBA (World Video Boxing Association) rankings. Take on 16 opponents in Championship Mode, learning their techniques and weak points to take them down, or practice your skills on single opponents in Time Attack Mode!

Bold, colourful graphics and dramatic sound effects set the scene for what promises to be the fight of your life in Punch-Out!! which will be available for Wii across Europe from 22 May.
And Detana!! TwinBee + Bomberman '94 in US on Monday: http://vc-pce.com/usa/e/index.html

Yay!!, if they follow through. The casino is now closed for wagers by the way. I'll accept a gifted NES Virtual Console game in lieu of a fiver, crowphoenix (as long as Nintendo delivers on Monday, of course). ;-)

I'm glad Europe is getting Super Punch-Out!!, but hopefully they get at least one other title as well. One game per week is pretty rotten, but we'd have to invent a new adjective if Europe started getting one VC game per fortnight.

I'm eagerly looking forward to TwinBee; it's the colourful, light-hearted Konami shooter I'm anticipating most
besides Parodius.

Day one on Detana!! Twinbee. Also:
http://vc-pce.com/usa/e/title/detana_twinbee.html

One day, an SOS from a distant planet arrives at the island where Twinbee and Winbee live.
"I am Princess Melora. Our planet has been invaded by evil aliens and is in great peril. Please, help us!"
Upon hearing the distress call, Twinbee and Winbee immediately leave for the planet where the princess awaits.
I wish every game could have exactly this kind of simplistic story.

This game features a VMODE function that stretches the screen vertically.
After the game modes are displayed at the title screen, press: [2, 1, right, left, right. left, down, down, up, up] on a controller connected to the Player 3 slot.
If entered correctly, there will be a sound, and HMODE will be added under OPTION.
To stretch the screen vertically, switch to VMODE using .
Seems like a strange thing to make into an Inverted Konami Code, but okay.

I have one of the Detana Twinbee manga volumes which I bought on a whim years ago. I should post a pic sometime, it's got great art (of course).

Man, would I have loved to been a dev in attendance at that conference. Q&A: "It's great to hear you're serious about challenging Apple's app brand strategy. One of the factors that have made their app strategy a sucees is their simple yet effective advertising. VC and WW are not advertised in the media at all in the west. What are you planning on doing to ensure that the DSi app brand has wider consumer awareness and show why this will be a more robust competitor in the eyes of as many different consumers as possible when compared to the IPhone's app store?"

Maybe you could send them here and get some recognition:

More than anything else, it was Shuzilow['s] incredible high quality work on the characters that shaped the series future: in a sense, Pastel, Light & company became more popular than the game they "happened" to star in. [...] Our heroes became protagonist of an impressive range of different products: from radio drama to an OAV series, to end with the idol career of Pastel's voice that did several audio cds. This is the probably the most interesting and obscure part of the Twinbeeverse. Sadly we have very slight information about these products; so if anyone knows more, please contact us: we'd be glad to go deeper into the matter.

Though looking over that page, what really makes me happy is reading that Michiru Yamane did the music. :O Hype +7 for that fact alone.

Dang I has a awsome dream a couple nights ago that the storage solution was released...lol it was pretty cool. The font on the WiiMenu changed and you could put a channel inside the Wii Clock :lol

eerr...anywayz: I'm bored so I decided that since I'm running out of time that I would go ahead and predict the NA DSiWare launch line-up.

Free Ware

DSi Browser - I am 100% sure that this will be a launch game/app. They already showed it in the NA trailer and...its just to obvious.

200 Point Ware

The 3 Magic Card apps or whatever they are - I'm guessing these since they are already rated by the OFLC (?) and I expect that our lineup to be around the same.

500 Point Ware

Art Style Decode & Art Style Aquario - Same reason as above.

800 Point Ware

Brain Age Math - Same reason as above :lol

(I know nnooo said Pop+ Solo was supposed to come April 5th but I have a feeling that Nintendo will not release it since they'll want to spread things out. DSiWare only has a few apps ready afterall)

I predect that Nintendo will also do wiikly releases on Mondays just like with WiiWare and Virtual Console. Just for the heck of it I'll go ahead and predect all of April...(Dang 17 more days...why must it be so far away?!)

April 13th

DSiWare Calcalator Animal Crossing Style & Mario style (200)
Brain Age Science(?) (800)

April 20th

The 2 (3?) WarioWare 200 Point games (200)
DSiWare Clock (200)

April 27th
Pop+Solo (500)
WarioWare Snapped (500)

probally way off but guessed for the lols.

Especially since they are only releasing 1 WiiWare and 1 VC game a week. But figured that they would do more since DSiWare apps are smaller and its so close to its launch...

Either way I got 3000 DSiPoints ready to go! :D

Come on NOA reveal the launch line up already. It would be cool if they revealed it on the Nintendo Channel. Right now the NC calender goes to April 3rd...hehe.

This isn't quite what most people mean if they say "If you think we're getting a great storage solution, you're dreaming."

3 VC games Monday?

No chance, Super Punchout won't be hitting the US VC for a while I reckon. I still doubt that both of Hudson't games will hit on Monday as well, we'll get one and if they're lucky we'll get the other one the week after.

wtf is this
It's a time attack boss fight with 4 player co-op and online ranking. You basically just fight some flying dragon from Phantasy Star Zero.

Sorry, this may be a stupid question, but who is USK? UK?
Or does that mean US and UK?

In order to get an insight into what may (or may not) be releasing in the future, some people check the activity of videogame rating organizations. USK (aka Unterhaltungssoftware Selbstkontrolle) is the rating board for Germany. PEGI (Pa********an Game Information) does the ratings for most other European countries I believe, OFLC (Office of Film and Literature Classification) handles ratings in Australia, and ESRB (Entertainment Software Rating Board) for North America. When a game gets rated by one or more of these organizations, it's usually a good indicator that the publisher will release the game.

Edit: Bahaha at the censor. Didn't expect that - was amused when I saw that those particular letters spelled out a videogame website. "Pan - European Game Information."

Ah, it's Germany. Thanks.

Please, put up FF IV: The After on the NA ESRB as well.

ESRB update:

-Wonder Boy III: Monster Lair (MD import)
-Silver Star Reversi (WiiWare)

I almost read that as Wonder Boy in Monster World IV and my heart skipped a beat... and Silver Star Reversi as Lunar Silver Star.

So this time it's the MD version of Monster Lair, huh? Man, if only they could ever give us Monster World IV.

OFLC update:

-WarioWare: Snapped!

Lol. I misread that WarioWare: Shrugged! Yeah, I can totally see Wario being down with Ayn Rand.

Somnid said:
So it's more text heavy than this one?

There's practically no text in Monster Lair. It's a platformer. Monster World IV, being an action RPG, has a decent chunk of text that would be necessary in playing the game.

So with the (future) release of Wonder Boy III would that make the list complete of all the english trasnlated Wonder Boy games?
The only game left is Wonder Boy III: The Dragon's Trap on SMS. Unless they decide to release ports, in which case there's Wonder Boy and Wonder Boy in Monster Land on C64 and Wonder Boy in Monster World on SMS.

Although I'm not sure how much text Monster World IV has compared to Wonder Boy in Monster World/The Dynastic Hero, I know I'd very happily play it without understanding that text--no matter how much of it there is. But I'm probably in the minority when it comes to playing games in a language I don't know, and that's why I'm not getting my hopes up. :/

Although in all honesty, I'd probably pay $30 for a translated version on DS if Sega wanted or needed to go that route.

Reel Fishing Challenge was rated as well. Must be for WiiWare as Natsume expressed interest in bringing the series to Wii retail and WiiWare, and Reel Fishing Angler's Dream is coming out in May for Wii retail.

I just noticed with Secret Command rated by the OFLC, this poses an interesting situation in which the game is significantly easier to release in Europe as the US version has the Rambo license. Might wind up as an import or it'd be the first time a game is actually barred from release on the US VC but possible in Europe.

Are Wii Points Cards usable on DSi? My local Walmart has them on clearance.

They should be, from all we've been told... how much are they being clearanced at? I'd love to get some discount Wii points -- where are you located?

I could go for some clearance points.

Pretty sure there was/is an english translated version of Monster World IV on Gametap.
Seems to not be translated. Which would be fine for me, except that I always feel like something's off when I'm playing a game on a computer (if it wasn't designed for a computer). Not really sure why.

To celebrate the (eventual) arrival of Detana! Twinbee on VC, I thought I'd post the following pics along with some other sweet old school gaming shwag that I own. Let us begin with my complete and still mint Twinbee for PCE which was new and sealed when I bought it (I think for about $60? Pretty good deal) 9 years ago this spring along with vol 1 of the Twinbee manga which I also got cheap:

Delay all you want, VC Monkeys. Because I've been playing this 'lil Hucard in my Supergrafx for the past few days. Aint nothin' like the real thing:

Some sweet stickers that came as an insert with the manual:

The front, inside and back of an insert advertising other Konami Hucards such as Gradius, Salamander and Parodius:

The formerly super rare Circus Lido. Think Bubble Bobble genre meets chameleon. Odd but fun little game where you encase enemies in bubbles then feed them to venus fly traps. Got it new for about $50 (used to go for $600) after Amazon Japan discovered a bunch of unopened copies about 7-8 years ago killing its former ebay darling status:

Something I got last year which has helped make my quest for eight stars on my SMB2/lost levels title screen a little bit easier:

Now for some seriously sweet Gradius shwag. Starting with the deluxe full cover guide to Gradius 1-Gaiden that Konami released for Gradius Portable's release three years ago. Here's a picture of the book with my 'lil Vic Viper gashapon fgure:

gradiusshwag.jpg

Nintendo Power style maps for all five games = sweetness. Let's check out some level layouts for Gradius II:

Aforementioned Shmup gashapon set I got from NCS little over a year ago:
