is the hard disk removable?

squicken said:That's why I was confused. The HD-DVD players on the market don't support the next gen audio, and that is also part of the HD-DVD spec. So I was wondering if it's something that can be added later, or even needs to be added.

Yeah, just like Puff Daddy invented the remix.xsarien said:Microsoft invented online gaming?

datruth29 said:You would actually have to sacrifice those features in its entirety. Thats what makes this a real killer. Jesus, I STILL can't believe Sony actually made this decision.
SuperPac said:What's even more killer is that unlike the 360, most people probably WILL want to buy the cheaper/gimped $500 PS3. HDMI, Wifi, memory stick support -- those are all premium features that the average gamer probably doesn't want/need. So developers/publishers won't have any incentive to flex the muscle of Wifi connectivity with PSP, or 1080p games, or memory stick support or anything. And who knows if it's going to have any effect on Blu-Ray becoming a standardized format for movies.
I think this does not bode well for Sony's online service promises of "FREE FREE FREE" online stuff (they talked microtransaction point cards, but no "online play is free." IMO, that speaks some volumes). Nor does it even bode well for the machine launching in November, IMO.

Kicko said:The PS3 was destined to destroy the 360 before the price was announced. Shit hasn't changed, it will still outsell the 360. Nintendo on the other hand...Sony just handed them the Japanese market.

The 500 dollar PS3 doesn't come with a HDMI cable or no HDMI port at all?
I know Sony has hyped TRUE 1080P bullshit, but most HDTVs are 720P sets anyway, and component video can handle 720P signals.

SuperPac said:That's correct. I don't think it's been said, but I highly doubt PS3 will come with an HDMI cable. Those run about $60-70+ usually. PS2 didn't even come with S-Video cables. No way is Sony including a $60-70 cable in with the machine, especially when I doubt most of the people buying this will have TVs or displays that support it (fewer than had S-Vid when PS2 launched).

"Cripple Pack?"Battersea Power Station said:Speaking of which, we need a unique name for the Sony tard pack. Discussion could get confusing otherwise.
Mrbob said:Well I would expect HDMI cable in the 600 dollar package.
hyp said:time to grab a 360, especially when stock is getting pretty decent in retail!
seriously, wtf sony. i'm probably your target demographic since i'm a sucker for the latest gadget and have a decent job to support the habit. but really, what about the rest of the fucking world?
i'll probably get one at launch... but with all the backlash, who am i going to play with online? it's going to be lonely in ps3 land if the price remains this high.
Sallokin said:I think the real killer with HDMI is that without it you won't be able to watch Blue Ray movies, which is one of the things they were touting as a feature. At least that's the way I understood it to be crippling to have 2 SKU's.
I'm not really a fanboy, but damn did I lose a ton of respect for Sony for pulling this two SKU business.
I like Cripple Pack a lot since the SKU representes a crippled version of their next-gen promise.-jinx- said:"Cripple Pack?"
"SKU You?"
SuperPac said:The top of my expectations for the $600 pack is component cables. You better believe that Sony will want to sell you a PS3-branded HDMI cable come launch.
